The images, often taken minutes after devastation has occurred, help pinpoint people and places at risk. A formal system of sharing information by space agencies was agreed in 1999, with the creation of the Disasters Charter. Since then, the charter has helped provide data for more than 300 disasters, in more than 100 countries. President Higgins encourages trade and tourism with Chile At his reception on Friday in Santiago, Chile, Irish President Micheal Higgins addressed the long history between Chile and Ireland. His core message looked to a future where the two countries continue to strengthen their bond through trade, innovation, and tourism. Higgins acknowledged the many Irish names that can be found throughout the streets of Santiago, and the impact Ireland has had on Chile. During his trip President Higgins was presented with the keys to the city of Santiago. Canada’s economy churning out jobs at steady pace 7 October 2012 - The Canadian economy added a thumping 52,100 jobs in September, almost all of them full-time, defying expectations and bolstering the Bank of Canada’s case for an eventual interest rate rise. The economy has added an average of 21,600 jobs per month in the past six months. September saw 44,100 new full-time jobs and 8,000 part-time. ‘The key point here is the economy is still churning out jobs at a healthy pace,’ said BMO Capital Markets deputy chief economist Doug Porter.
