I

n the sumer of 2012, a group of veterans bicycled across the United States in an effort to heal their wounds from war, draw attention to veterans’ issues, and raise money for veterans’ charities. Next year, a new group of veterans will follow the same route as those before them, only this time, they will be joined by 1000s of supporters in 3 ride-alongs planned between major cities across the country. DURING THEIR 90-DAY JOURNEY: 1500 veterans will commit suicide; 270,000 veterans will have been diagnosed with PTSD; and 300,000 veterans will spend a night on the street.

WHAT

I

n the summer of 2012, five US veterans rode their bicycles (and hand bicycles!) from Washington State to Washington DC. Their 90-day journey took them over 4300 miles, across 15 states, and straight to the hearts of thousands of people.

In the summer of 2013, a new group of inspiring veterans will cycle the same route as those before them. Only this time, they will be joined by 1000s of others in 3 ride alongs planned between major metropolises across the country. WHY

S

ince 2000, the United States has actively been involved in over 10 military operations. During this time, more than 2.2 million Americans have gone to war and over 1 million have returned home as veterans.

CONSIDER THE FACTS: A veteran commits suicide once every 80 minutes. 35% of all Iraq War veterans suffer from PTSD. 1/3 of the adult homeless population is veterans. 60% of all women who served in the military suffered from Military Sexual Trauma. The current unemployment rate for veterans is 12% 2.2 million veterans met the criteria for having a substance abuse disorder in 2012.
