Croeso i’n tymor newydd!

Welcome to our new season!

Yn ogystal â llond llwyfan o ddigwyddiadau cyffrous, rydym yn croesawu cyfarwyddwr newydd hefyd. Simon Coates, gynt o National Theatre Wales, yn ymuno â ni fel Pennaeth Gwasanaethau Diwylliannol. Mae Simon yn dod ag angerdd am theatr, dawns ac am weithio mewn cymunedau i greu profiadau rhyfeddol. Mae’n bwriadu adeiladu ar waith ein Cyfarwyddwr blaenorol Sybil Crouch, a lwyddodd i fowldio Taliesin i fod y ganolfan o ragoriaeth artistig yw hi heddiw.

This season at Taliesin brings not only an exciting range of events but also a new director. Simon Coates, formerly of National Theatre Wales, joins us as Head of Cultural Services. Simon brings with him a passion for theatre, dance and for working within communities to create extraordinary experiences. He plans to build on the work of our previous Director, Sybil Crouch, whose dedication and love of the arts moulded Taliesin into the centre it is today.

Heb os, mae rhaglen y tymor yn arbennig o amrywiol a chyffrous. Mae’r arlwy cerddorol yn cynnwys traddodiadau gwerin Cymru a’r Alban, jazz y sipsiwn, a ffrwyth cydweithio ardderchog arall yng nghwmni Catrin Finch. Mae gennym dawns Hip-Hop sy’n herio ein syniadau am hunaniaeth ddiwylliannol, gwledd o ddarlithoedd cyhoeddus i ddathlu canmlwyddiant y Brifysgol, a gwelwn ddychweliad Cwmni Opera Cenedlaethol yn ei ôl gyda chlasur poblogaidd, heb sôn am raglen lawn dop o ffilmiau sy’n cynnwys dwy ŵyl ffilm. Yn Y Neuadd Fawr rydym yn dathlu 15fed flwyddyn Gwobr fawreddog Dylan Thomas.

The season’s programme is a particularly varied and exciting one. The music programme includes both Welsh and Scottish folk, gypsy jazz and yet another wonderful new collaboration involving Catrin Finch. We have Hip-Hop dance challenging our views on cultural identity, a range of public lectures celebrating the University’s centenary, and we see the return of Welsh National Opera with a popular classic, plus of course a full film programme which includes two film festivals. At The Great Hall we celebrate the 15th year of the prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize.

Mae Canolfan y Celfyddydau Taliesin yn perthyn i Brifysgol Abertawe ac yn cael ei rheoli ganddi. Cydnabyddir gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru fel Canolfan Ranbarthol y Celfyddydau Perfformio. Taliesin Arts Centre is owned and managed by Swansea University. Recognised as a Regional Performing Arts Centre by the Arts Council of Wales.

Dunajska Kapelye London-based Dunajska Kapelye has been performing together since 2006, but their roots go way back to the origin of folk music itself. The band draws its influences from everywhere the Danube flows (Dunajska Kapelye translates as “the Danube Band”) and from wherever their fancy takes them. Led by Piotr Jordan’s many-hued and ever-virtuosic violin playing, they offer genuine and unabashed renderings of songs that are close to their hearts and that are never the same twice. Joining Piotr will be composer, multi-instrumentalist and sound designer Zac Gvirtzman on accordion/clarinet, Dave Kelbie guitar, and Paul Moylan double bass. DRAMA/DRAMA TALIESIN

Friday 12 June Nos Wener 12 Mehefin 7.30pm Flying Bridge Theatre and Rive Productions present yn cyflwyno

Horse Country Written by Ysgrifennwyd gan CJ Hopkins Directed by Cyfarwyddwyd gan Mark Bell Featuring Yn cynnwys Daniel Llewelyn-Williams, Michael Edwards Two clowns shoot the breeze, drinking bourbon and playing cards. While hunting the illusive nine of diamonds, they casually dissect capitalism, sea-lions, western culture, fishing, genocide, you know… stuff like that. Sam and Bob are not so much waiting for Godot, nor are they waiting for the audience to keep up. Their window on the world is one of menace, hilarity, disappointment and improbability, all delivered with a magnificent high-octane comic brio. Anarchic and surreal, this delightful and confusing satire surprises and provokes in spades… or the nine of diamonds… Mae dau gymer yn dala’r slac yn dynn, gan sgwrs, slotian bourbon a chwarae cardiau. Wrth chwilio am y cerdyn naw diemwnt pwysig, maen nhw’n trin a thrafod cyfalafiaeth, morloi, diwylliant y gorllewin, pysgota, hil-laddiad ac ati... fel mae rhywun. Nid mater o aros am Godot yw hi yng nghwmni Sam a Bob – maen nhw’n aros i’r gynulleidfa ddal i fyny gyda nhw. Yn hytrach, mae’r ddau’n edrych ar y byd a’i bethau sy’n fygythiol, doniol, siomedig, dros ben llestri. Yn swreal ac anhrefnus, dyma ddrama ddychan ddryslyd, bleserus, gwahanol ar y naw (o ddiemwnt)! ‘A profound yet hilarious interchange between two of the most brilliant idiots one has the pleasure of being forced to watch.’ NEW YORK HERALD £ 12 Concessions/Gostyngiadau £10 Swansea University Students/Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Abertawe £5 www.taliesinartscentre.co.uk

The Government Inspector By gan Nikolai Gogol Gogol’s masterpiece has lost none of its bite. In a small town at the back of nowhere, corruption is rife and the Mayor and his cronies have got it made. But when they learn they’re going to be subject to an undercover government inspection they panic. Nabokov called The Government Inspector the greatest play in the Russian language. Mae campwaith Gogol lawn mor ffraeth heddiw ag erioed. Mewn tref fach ddi-nod lle mae twyll yn bla, mae’r Maer a’i griw ar ben eu digon. Ond maen nhw’n dechrau cynhyrfu ar ôl deall bod arolygwyr cudd y llywodraeth am ymchwilio iddynt. Drama a ddisgrifiwyd gan Nabokov fel y ddrama Rwsieg orau erioed.

Key works include The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Lady with an Ermine, Ginevra de’ Benci, Madonna Litta, Virgin of the Rocks, and more than a dozen others. This film also looks afresh at Leonardo’s life – his inventiveness, his sculptural skills, his military foresight and his ability to navigate the treacherous politics of the day – through the prism of his art. Mae Leonardo da Vinci yn enwog fel arlunydd mwyaf poblogaidd y byd, ac mae’r ffilm hon yn cyflwyno pob paentiad a briodolir iddo, mewn manylder uwch. Gyda gweithiau allweddol fel y Mona Lisa, y Swper Olaf, Menyw gydag Charlwm, Ginevra de’ Benci, Madonna Litta, Morwyn y Creigiau, a mwy na dwsin arall.
