“A storming juggernaut of cool power-folk with a jawdropping repertoire. You can’t help but marvel at their astounding musicianship.” FOLK WALES

In their first major postlockdown tour one of Britain’s most innovative and thrilling bands will showcase their critically acclaimed new album Kistvaen. Recorded just before the pandemic, live performances of the album were suspended… until now.

2

01792 60 20 60

Expect intricate, captivating melodies and mesmerising harmonies underpinned with foot-stamping, crowd-pleasing rhythms. Calan’s bewildering array of instruments includes guitars, fiddles, bagpipes, harps, accordions, vocals… and, likely as not, world-class step and clog dancing.

Fel rhan o’u taith fawr gyntaf wedi’r cyfnod clo bydd un o fandiau mwyaf arloesol a chyffrous Prydain yn arddangos eu halbwm newydd, Kistvaen, a gafodd ei ganmol gan y beirniaid. Recordiwyd yr album yn union cyn y pandemig, ond ni chafwyd perfformiadau byw ohono… tan yn awr.

Gallwch ddisgwyl alawon cain, gafaelgar a harmonïau llesmeiriol uwchben rhythmau grymus, fydd yn plesio’r dorf ac yn peri i’r traed guro. Mae lliaws rhyfeddol Calan o offerynnau yn cynnwys gitarau, ffidlau, bagbibau, telynau, acordionau, lleisiau… a fwy na thebyg, stepio a dawnsio clocsiau o’r radd flaenaf.

“Calan reach out beyond folk,” says Folk Radio UK, “breathing fire into old traditions with infectious, high voltage performances.” WWW.CALAN-BAND.COM

Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita £22 £20 Concessions/ Gostyngiadau

Multi-award winning duo Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita tour the UK in 2022 to celebrate the release of their third album ECHO, the tender triumph of an extraordinary musical partnership that combines Wales and Senegal, harp and kora, the classical and traditional, different cultures and common humanity.

Bydd y ddeuawd gwobrwyedig Catrin Finch a Seckou Keita yn teithio’r DU yn 2022 i ddathlu rhyddhau eu trydydd albwm ECHO, buddugoliaeth dyner partneriaeth gerddorol hynod sy’n cyfuno Cymru a Senegal, telyn a kora, y clasurol a’r traddodiadol, diwylliannau gwahanol a dynoliaeth gyffredin.

Mae’r delyn a’r kora yn rhannu canrifoedd o hanes, ac mae Catrin a Seckou yn creu deialog unigryw mewn cynghrair gerddorol o empathi prin, wedi’i hysbrydoli gan wahaniaethau a thebygrwydd. Mae eu hud atmosfferig yn croesi ffiniau genre, o werin a byd i glasurol a chyfoes wrth i’w bysedd llifo fel llednentydd gwrthwynebol i mewn i un afon o sain.

The harp and kora share centuries of history, and Catrin and Seckou create a unique dialogue in a musical alliance of rare empathy, inspired by differences and similarities. Their atmospheric magic crosses genre boundaries, from folk and world to classical and contemporary as their fingers flow like opposing tributaries into a single river of sound.

“Hypnotic and ethereal, SOAR is a unique marriage of cultures” 4* NEIL SPENCER, THE OBSERVER

“the technical ability of each member is clear in their energetic, dynamic sound” SONGLINES PHOTO/LLUN:

Ground-breaking, charttopping, genre-bending, instantly enthralling… it’s little wonder that Talisk rank highly amongst the most in-demand folk-based groups to emerge from Scotland in the last decade. Alongside extensive touring, and appearances at leading festivals across multiple continents, Talisk have stacked up major awards for their explosively energetic, artfully woven sound. Mohsen Amini (BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards’ Musician of the Year 2018), Graeme Armstrong and Benedict Morris (BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2019), fuse concertina, guitar and fiddle to produce an innovative, multi-layered signature that captivates audiences worldwide.

At its core, three seemingly acoustic instruments - in the hands of three master craftsmen; one unmistakable, bold sound and captivating live show.

Arloesol, ar frig y siartiau, yn gwthio ffiniau’r genre, yn eich hudo ar unwaith… does ryfedd bod Talisk ymhlith y grwpiau gwerin o’r Alban y bu’r galw mwyaf amdanynt yn ystod y degawd diwethaf. Ochr yn ochr â theithiau helaeth, ac ymddangosiadau mewn gwyliau amlwg ar draws sawl cyfandir, mae Talisk wedi ennill llu o wobrau pwysig am eu sain egnïol, llawn cyffro, sy’n cael ei chreu mewn modd mor gelfydd. Mae Mohsen Amini (Cerddor y Flwyddyn Gwobrau Gwerin BBC Radio 2 2018), Graeme Armstrong

a Benedict Morris (Cerddor Ifanc Traddodiadol y Flwyddyn BBC Radio Scotland 2019), yn cyfuno concertina, gitâr a ffidil i gynhyrchu sain unigryw, amlhaenog sy’n swyno cynulleidfaoedd ar draws y byd. Y craidd yw tri offeryn ymddangosiadol acwstig – yn nwylo tri chrefftwr o fri; un sain drawiadol, gwbl unigryw a sioe fyw fydd yn eich hudo.

Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) plays the title role in Shakespeare’s thrilling study of nationalism, war and the psychology of power.

Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) sy’n chwarae’r brif ran yn astudiaeth wefreiddiol Shakespeare o genedlaetholdeb, rhyfel a seicoleg pŵer.

Fresh to the throne, King Henry V launches England into a bloody war with France. When his campaign encounters resistance, this inexperienced new ruler must prove he is fit to guide a country into war.

Yn syth ar ôl dod i’r orsedd, mae’r Brenin Henry V yn cychwyn rhyfel gwaedlyd rhwng Lloegr a Ffrainc. Pan ddaw gwrthwynebiad i’w ymgyrch, mae’n rhaid i’r brenin newydd dibrofiad brofi ei fod yn deilwng i arwain gwlad i ryfel.

Captured live from the Donmar Warehouse in London, this exciting modern production directed by Max Webster (Life of Pi) explores what it means to be English and our relationship to Europe, asking: do we ever get the leaders we deserve?

Daw’r cynhyrchiad modern cyffrous hwn yn fyw o Warws Donmar yn Llundain, dan gyfarwyddyd Max Webster (Life of Pi), ac mae’n archwilio beth yw ystyr bod yn Saeson a’n perthynas ag Ewrop, gan holi: ydyn ni byth yn cael yr arweinwyr rydyn ni’n eu haeddu?

19th-century Paris is a place of contrasts; glamour and superficiality, love and lust, life and death. Courtesan Violetta sings some of Verdi’s most acclaimed arias including the joyous ‘Sempre libera’, in her poignant and passionate encounters with Alfredo and Germont. This classic fairytale represents the battle between good and evil, and the attempt of love to conquer all. The magic of the lakes, forests and palaces is brought to life with glittering designs by John Macfarlane and a sublime score by Tchaikovsky.

Mae’r stori dylwyth teg glasurol hon yn cynrychioli’r frwydr rhwng da a drwg, ac ymgais cariad i drechu popeth. Daw hud a lledrith y llynnoedd, y coedwigoedd a’r palasau yn fyw trwy gyfrwng dyluniadau disglair John Macfarlane a sgôr aruchel Tchaikovsky.

This classic of the repertory is testament to the late choreographer Liam Scarlett’s abiding love of classicism and innate musicality, which shine through this production.

Dyma un o glasuron y repertoire, ac mae’n tystio i gariad diderfyn y diweddar goreograffydd Liam Scarlett at glasuriaeth a’i ysbryd cerddorol cynhenid, sy’n tywynnu drwy’r cynhyrchiad hwn.

Ralph Fiennes (Antony & Cleopatra) leads the cast in David Hare’s (Skylight) blazing account of the most powerful man in New York, a master manipulator whose legacy changed the city forever. For forty uninterrupted years, Robert Moses exploited those in office through a mix of charm and intimidation. Motivated at first by a determination to improve the lives of New York City’s workers, he created parks, bridges and 627 miles of expressway to connect the people to the great outdoors. The Eyes of Tammy Faye (12) Dir/Cyf: Michael Showalter 2021 USA 2hrs/awr 6mins/mnd Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Cherry Jones The film takes an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, legendary for her indelible eyelashes, idiosyncratic singing and eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life.

Mae’r ffilm hon yn edrych yn fanwl ar hanes rhyfeddol y tele-efengylydd Tammy Faye Bakker, wrth iddi esgyn, disgyn a chael maddeuant. Roedd hi’n enwog am ei blew llygaid parhaol, ei chanu idiosyncratig, a’i hawydd i gofleidio pobl o bob cefndir.

In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.

Yn y 1970au a’r 80au, cododd Tammy Faye a’i gŵr, Jim Bakker, o ddechreuadau syml i greu rhwydwaith darlledu a pharc thema crefyddol mwyaf y byd, a derbyn parch am eu neges o gariad, derbyniad a ffyniant. Fodd bynnag, cyn hir chwalwyd eu hymerodraeth a godwyd mor ofalus gan gamarfer ariannol, cystadleuwyr cyfrwys a sgandal.

Nightmare Alley (15)

An ambitious carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, this psychological thriller is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name by, and its second adaptation after the 1947 film.

Mae gweithiwr carnifal uchelgeisiol sydd â dawn i fanipwleiddio pobl ag ambell air yn ei le yn ymuno â seiciatrydd benywaidd sy’n fwy peryglus nag ef ei hun. Dan gyfarwyddyd Guillermo del Toro, seiliwyd y ffilm seicoleg iasoer hon ar nofel William Lindsay Gresham o’r un enw yn 1946, a’r ail addasiad wedi ffilm 1947. “Nightmare Alley feels gorgeously and intricately alive on the screen. Its shadows are luxuriant and deep, often threatening to swallow the characters whole, and the actors play their parts with an aplomb that rivals del Toro’s own.” ISAAC FELDBERG, INVERSE

Ali and Ava, both lonely for different reasons, meet and sparks fly. Over a lunar month a deep connection begins to grow, despite the legacy of Ava’s past relationship, and Ali’s emotional turmoil at the breakdown of his marriage.

Wedi’i lapio mewn cerddoriaeth a’i lenwi â hiwmor, mae Ali & Ava yn stori serch gyfoes afaelgar a ysgrifennwyd ac a gyfarwyddwyd gan Clio Barnard, a enwebwyd ar gyfer BAFTA. The Outfit

(cert tbc/tystysgrif i’w chadarnhau) Dir/Cyf: Graham Moore 2022 USA 1hr/awr 45mins/mnd Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Dylan O’Brien The Outfit follows Leonard, an expert tailor who crafted suits in London. A personal tragedy finds him in 1950s Chicago, running a shop in the rough part of town where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them: a family of gangsters, and where he must outwit them in order to survive a fateful night.

Mae The Outfit yn dilyn Leonard, teiliwr arbenigol a oedd yn arfer creu siwtiau yn y bydenwog Savile Row yn Llundain. Yn sgîl trychineb bersonol, ceir hyd iddo yn Chicago yn y 1950au, yn rhedeg siop teiliwr bach mewn rhan beryglus o’r dref, lle mae’n creu dillad hardd ar gyfer yr unig bobl yn yr ardal honno sy’n gallu eu fforddio: teulu o gangsteriaid, a lle mae’n rhaid iddo ddefnyddio’i holl gyfrwystra yn eu herbyn os yw am oroesi noson dyngedfennol.

Paper Moon (PG) Dir/Cyf: Peter Bogdanovich 1973 1hr/awr 42mins/mnd Ryan O’Neal, Tatum O’Neal, Madeline Kahn In celebration of one of the great American directors, Taliesin is proud to present a rare opportunity to see Peter Bogdanovich’s Paper Moon on the big screen.

I ddathlu un o gyfarwyddwyr mawr America, mae Taliesin yn falch o gyflwyno cyfle prin i weld Paper Moon gan Peter Bogdanovich ar y sgrîn fawr.

“Paper Moon remains the most effortlessly magical and accessible of Bogdanovich’s directorial efforts, a bittersweet black-andwhite Depression-era comedy in which real-life father and daughter Ryan O’Neal and Tatum O’Neal bootstrap their way across America selling Bibles to grieving families, aided by lying their butts off.

“Paper Moon o hyd yw’r mwyaf hudol a hygyrch o ymdrechion cyfarwyddo Bogdanovich, a hynny mewn modd diymdrech. Comedi du a gwyn chwerwfelys o oes y Dirwasgiad lle mae Ryan O’Neal a Tatum O’Neal, sy’n dad a merch go iawn, yn teithio ar hap ar draws America, yn gwerthu Beiblau i deuluoedd sy’n galaru, ac yn dweud llu o gelwyddau i’w helpu ar eu ffordd.

Nine-year-old Tatum’s Oscar-winning performance is one of the most captivating yet unsentimental roles to make a child star, and the whole film is serenely confident in its storytelling, armed with the roguish charm of on-screen con artistry.” Ian Mangan, BFI.

Enillodd Tatum, oedd yn naw oed, Oscar am ei pherfformiad, sy’n un o’r rolau mwyaf gafaelgar i droi plentyn yn seren, ond heb fod yn sentimental, ac mae’r ffilm gyfan yn adrodd y stori’n ddigynnwrf hyderus, gan ddefnyddio hud drygionus twyllwyr medrus ar y sgrîn.” Ian Mangan, BFI.

The Real Charlie Chaplin (12) Dir/Cyf: Peter Middleton, James Spinney 2021 USA 1hr/awr 54mins/mnd Pearl Mackie, Jeff Rawle, Paul Ryan Never-before-heard recordings, intimate home movies and newly restored classic films reveal a side to Chaplin that the world never got to see. Hollywood icon Charlie Chaplin rocketed to fame from the slums of Victorian London and spent decades as one of Hollywood’s most famous and beloved stars until his scandalous fall from grace. His stage persona and incendiary media portrayal defined how he was perceived, but his private life has always been shrouded in mystery - until now. The Real Charlie Chaplin is a look at the life and work of Charlie Chaplin in his own words featuring an in-depth interview he gave to Life magazine in 1966.

Trwy gyfrwng recordiadau sydd heb eu clywed erioed o’r blaen, ffilmiau cartref agos atoch a chlasuron sydd newydd eu hadfer, datgelir ochr i gymeriad Chaplin na welodd y byd. Saethodd Charlie Chaplin, yr eicon o Hollywood, i enwogrwydd o slymiau Llundain oes Victoria, a threulio degawdau yn un o sêr enwocaf ac anwylaf Hollywood, hyd nes i sgandal ei wthio o’r brig. Diffiniwyd y canfyddiad ohono gan ei bersonoliaeth ar y llwyfan a’r portead ffrwydrol ohono yn y cyfryngau, ond mae ei fywyd preifat wedi bod yn ddirgelwch – tan yn awr. Operation Mincemeat (12A) Dir/Cyf: John Madden 2021 USA, UK 2hrs/awr 8mins/mnd Colin Firth, Matthew McFadyen, Kelly MacDonald In 1943, the Allies are determined to launch an all-out assault on Fortress Europe, but they face an impossible challenge: to protect a massive invasion force from entrenched German firepower and avert a potential massacre.

Yn 1943, mae’r Cynghreiriaid yn benderfynol o lansio ymosodiadau llawn ar Gaer Ewrop, ond maen nhw’n wynebu her amhosibl: amddiffyn llu goresgynnol anferth rhag pŵer tanio’r Almaenwyr ac osgoi’r lladdfa a allai ddigwydd.

In the context of WW2 narratives, the story of Operation Mincemeat is a bizarre and seductive cinematic blend of high-level espionage and ingenious fiction, where the stakes could hardly be higher. It tells a richly human story of the soldiers we seldom see, who fight a different kind of war in shadows and deception, haunted by the knowledge that certainty and guarantee of success are nowhere to be found.

Yng nghyd-destun naratifau’r Ail Ryfel Byd, mae hanes Operation Mincemeat yn gyfuniad sinematig rhyfedd ond gafaelgar o sbïo ar y lefel uchaf a ffuglen ddyfeisgar, lle mai o’r braidd y gellid dychmygu sefyllfa lle roedd mwy i’w golli. Mae’n adrodd stori ddynol gyfoethog y milwyr nad ydym yn eu gweld yn anaml, sy’n ymladd math gwahanol o ryfel trwy dwyll yn y cysgodion, ar bigau’r drain oherwydd nad oes y fath beth â sicrwydd a gwarant o lwyddiant yn bodoli.
