School levy by the numbers What proponents, opponents are saying as ballots get ready to be mailed to public MORE INSIDE

By Kristen Cates Tribune Staff Writer

Great Falls Public Schools is asking voters to approve a $1.6 million levy, which would result in a yearly property tax increase of $18.85 on a home valued at $100,000. Here is a breakdown of what the request contains, and what people are saying about the request. $495,000 to pay for teachers: This includes hiring two additional elementary classroom teachers,

Supporters point out that the district has cut 50 teaching positions in the last five years and say it needs to start adding positions. Âť Residents such as Janis Gallison argue the district is spending money on Common Core curriculum, which she believes is not the rigorous math curriculum teachers have said it is. Easter has been described as “a moveable feastâ€? — Christianity’s holiest celebration, which floats across the calendar from year to year, and can fall on any date between March 22 and April 25. Many people are familiar with the general rule of when Easter will occur: the first Sunday following the first full moon that follows the Northern spring equinox. Fewer are aware of the centuries-long process it took to arrive at that calculation, or the many recalculations that took place before the date of Easter was finally agreed upon — by most.
