Order of Service Sunday 21 January 2018 Worship Leader: Rev Mervyn Dine (Epiphany 3)

Welcome Call to Worship Leader: The Lord be with you People: And also with you. Leader: The Word of the Lord came, People: hope for all people cradled in his arms. Leader: The Word of the Lord comes, People: calling us out of our comfort zones, to go where grace is needed most. Leader: The Word of the Lord will come, People: gathering all the outsiders and insiders into one community of the kingdom.

With grateful hearts ‌‌

We come with grateful hearts and bring our grateful praise to you, our God, whose gracious hand has led us all our days. You came to us in love and set your people free. In covenant, you called your own to live in unity. In Christ you make us whole; we find in him the way. He goes ahead and calls us on to follow and obey. Through him, we can entrust the future to your hands. He calls us friends and makes us one, as we keep his commands. Remembering all your saints, whose lives inspire us still, we strive, like them, to follow Christ and know and do his will. We go our different ways, the Spirit leads us on; still bound in fellowship through Christ, God's risen, living Son. Keith Pearson

Prayer and Lord’s Prayer Reading

Mark 1: 14-20

Reflection Hymn

AA60 How is Jesus present?

Jonah 3: 1-5,10

Reflection Hymn

There’s a wideness in God’s mercy …

There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in his justice which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heaven; there is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgement given. For the love of God is broader than the measure of our mind, and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. But we make his love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify his strictness with a zeal he would not own. If our love were but more simple, we should take him at his word, and our lives would be all gladness in the joy of Christ our Lord. Frederick William Faber (1814-1863) alt.

(Please remain standing for the dedication of the offering) Dedication of the offering (together ) Gracious God, your love for us is revealed in the gifts of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. You call us to make these gifts evident in our lives. Receive and bless this offering as a symbol of our thanksgiving and as a sign of our commitment to you. Amen

Prayers The Church family in action Hymn

The Lord’s my shepherd …….

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want he makes me lie in pastures green. He leads me by still, still waters his goodness restores my soul. refrain

And I will trust in you alone, and I will trust in you alone, For your endless mercy follows me, your goodness will lead me home. He guides my ways in righteousness, and he anoints my head with oil, and my cup, it overflows with joy, I feast on his pure delights. refrain And though I walk the darkest path, I will not fear the evil one, for you are with me, and your rod and staff are the comfort I need to know. Refrain. (Stuart Townend 1963-)

Commissioning Leader: May the word of God empower our words, the love of Christ inhabit our lives and the breath of the Holy Spirit inspire us today and every day All:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the community of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen
