Thank you for the invitation to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in B.C. (TCCBC). Unfortunately I will not be able to be with you at your Gala Dinner. In my former role as Minister of International Trade, I had the privilege of working with the Taiwanese business community. Canada has long valued the contribution of Taiwanese businesses to our economy. Thank you for the commitment of the TCCBC in promoting Taiwanese businesses and trade here in Canada. The last 25 years of the TCCBC has been very successful and I extend my best wishes on this your anniversary celebration along with my shared confidence with you that the next 25 years will be even better!

I am honoured to attend the 2017 Taiwan Chamber of Commerce (BC) Gala Dinner, and would like to take this opportunity to wish all participants an evening of good company, good food, and good fun. Congratulations to the Chamber on another year of diligent efforts to support Taiwanese business interests in BC and to promote Taiwan-Canada relations. The success of so many BC-based Taiwanese entrepreneurs and their families is a testament to Canada's multi-cultural mosaic and the province's special role as North America's gateway to Asia.

Tonight’s gala brings together members of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC, its partners and community leaders, to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary and TCCBC’s 25th anniversary. I would like to commend the TCCBC for their leadership in the Taiwanese business community in British Columbia and for strengthening Taiwanese-Canadian businesses for the past 25 years. I would also like to acknowledge all of the members, volunteers and supporters who have contributed to the success of TCCBC and without whom this gala dinner would not be possible. On behalf of the Senate of Canada, best wishes for a memorable evening and continued success to all.
