collection autumn/winter 2016

with a sudanese father and english mother, taisir gibreel spent her childhood in sudan before moving to the uk at 17 years old. she later moved to scotland to pursue a degree in textile design at duncan of jordanstone college of art and design. she graduated to specialise in print and weave, and embarked on a mission to embrace bold, abstract colours and patterns in her work. taisir’s collections offer a fearless approach to design with distinctive and interesting combinations of colour and print, showcasing her diverse, cultural upbringing.

taisir gibreel’s collections of luxurious ‘art to wear’ fashion accessories celebrate colour, culture and diversity. drawing great inspiration from the colours and shapes found in the highlands and the geometric shapes and structures found in the scottish parliament building, her collections are based on original hand drawings of rural and urban scottish landscapes. the designs celebrate colour, culture and diversity, reflecting her own sudanese background and heritage.

inspired by an sgarsoch (the place of the sharp rocks) and ben lawers (hill of the labhair (loud) stream) the moody loch collection celebrates the vivid and enchanting colours of these majestic mountains under cover of darkness. the collection is an elaborate interpretation of these remote wild hills with their splendid peaks, ridges and corries.
