STUDENT SUPPORT BKSB Commonwealth Government rules about VET Student Loans (VSL) changed for enrolments after 1 January, 2017. You need to ensure your academic suitability for your diploma or advanced diploma before being granted a VSL loan. You can demonstrate your academic suitability for a VET Student Loan by: §§ Providing a copy of your Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 Certificate) OR §§ Providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English) OR §§ Sitting an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and being assessed as competent at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy. At TAFE Queensland, the approved assessment is called BKSB (basic key skills builder). It is an online assessment tool that provides an overview of your learning strengths and determines your English and Maths levels.

VET Student Loans (VSL) VET Student Loans commenced on 1 January, 2017 and replaced the VET FEE-HELP scheme, which ceased on 31 December, 2016. If you are an existing VET FEE HELP student, or you are interested in accessing VET Student Loans, visit the education.gov.au website for more information about how this will affect you. You can access the VET Student Loans information booklet 2017, visit education.gov.au.

You can do the test online in your own time, on campus in a classroom environment, or in a campus library at a time that suits you. TAFE Queensland will work with you to achieve your study goals (see information on BKSB). Ask your teacher for more information. 2017 STUDENT HANDBOOK | 9
