A Ship-Shape Refurbishment What do you do with unfinished attic space that overlooks a beautiful intracoastal vantage point? You create a kids’ room that resembles a ship – complete with crow’s nest, a bow for watching wildlife along the water’s edge, and awesome bunk beds with authentic nautical lighting. Charles Croom, VP of Operations said, “This project was not only one of the most creative renovations we’ve completed, it was also an engineering challenge that proved well worth the effort.” The new quarters provide plenty of room for the homeowners’ grandkids to roam the deck, store their treasures in expertly carved bow drawers, and comfortably sleep four. Kids of all ages love the clever use of space.

For the adults, the new outdoor waterfront living area (see cover) is just as fun. Croom Construction’s team formed a beach along the waterway for easy launching of kayaks. A stunning infinity pool, full outdoor kitchen with pizza oven and beer tap, and a poolside, all-glass workout room fulfills the homeowners’ vision for their retreat. This major renovation also included creating a more open floor plan in the main living area that allowed a clear view from the entrance all the way through to the river. Not only did our crew remove

walls in the foyer, we raised the entire structural concrete beam by over a foot. Croom worked closely with the structural engineer as we removed sections of load-bearing walls and added a multi-ton structural beam to carry the load of the second floor and roof during the process. “It took an army of us to install the beam, but the end result was phenomenal, Charles said. New kitchen cabinets and a large island were also designed and installed, which included a beautiful LaCornue stove and a state-of-the-art coffee system. From the kitchen to the living rooms to the

outdoor entertainment area, the total refurbishment was everything the homeowners envisioned – and a true reflection of their outgoing personalities and lifestyle.
