Meet our new tutor, Svetlana Powell Hello, my name is Svetlana and I am a tutor at t2 Apprenticeship Academy. I joined t2 Academy only few weeks ago but I have enjoyed working here since day one. The Members of staff in the Academy are very friendly and supportive, which has helped me to settle in quickly, I feel welcomed by everyone.
I have 16 years of teaching experience in Further Education and I am very proud to be part of this organisation, which is so devoted to supporting young people, like you, in their transition from school to work, helping them to stand firm on their own two feet and giving them direction to success.
It’s a compact space with comfortable and spacious classrooms in the centre of Bristol, where students spend a few days a week learning how to write CV’s and apply for jobs, while improving their skills in English and Maths with support of friendly and caring tutors and other members of staff. After getting qualifications in English, Maths and Employability, they do work experience in a real workplace, where they can learn new skills and decide if they like it. So, if you are not sure which path to take after you have finished school, then t2 Academy is the place for you.
Meet some of our 19+ learners and hear what they have to say about the academy; “Big chance for young people, it’s an opportunity for a better future” “I’m getting on really well and feel confident that I will have a job by the end of my time here” “It’s great. It’s a friendly and helpful environment which will help me start my career”
“I am progressing so well with my qualifications, I never enjoyed learning in school, it’s different here, everyone is so respectful”
“It’s a really good programme, I’m loving it. The stairs are helping with my fitness too !” “It’s fun, helpful and is helping me move forward in my life”
“Staff are soooooo friendly and helpful” “I feel really safe and happy here, everyone is so helpful”
“I had never considered a Career in Health Care, t2 spotted it would suit me, and I love it”
Kane Joined the academy needing to improve his English to level 2, which he successfully completed, along with his employability certificate, which gave him a great insight into expectations in the workplace. After getting some great experience and feedback during the civil service mock interviews, Kane secured himself an apprenticeship at the Players Golf Club in Ground Keeping.
Lauren came to the academy as a 19+ learner needing to improve her maths and her confidence. Lauren was placed at a care home after we completed her DBS for her and did such a great job they have offered her a full time position.
Addie worked very hard to improve her maths to level 2 and proved herself as being keen to work hard early on in the programme. After successfully completing a work placement in retail in a bespoke vintage shop, Addie set her sights to gaining an apprenticeship in retail. Addie now works as an apprentice tailor in a men’s boutique in Clifton.
Gary showed himself as a popular and committed member of the group who was keen to secure employment. As part of his programme Gary completed a work placement with Bristol City Council and now is a Trainee Grounds Maintenance Operative with them.
Mark came to the academy needing to improve his maths and English. Mark worked really hard, Including attending 1 to 1 sessions for extra support. After a placement at Bradley Stoke Leisure centre, they were so impressed with Mark they took him on as an apprentice. Mark called in last week to inform he is now a fully qualified Fitness Instructor.
Charlie was keen to get out on to placement and prove himself as soon as possible, with a keen interest in engineering, Aerospace Engineering was the right placement for Charlie. We always knew Charlie would be successful, but he did such a great job the employer offered him a full time post after a week.
Charlie Nash Chloe was a lively member of the academy with a clear ambition from day one. To be a childcare apprentice. We were some way off this with the need to improve maths skills and employability. Chloe worked hard, turned up on time every day, took on board feedback and kept her motivation high despite a few knock backs. Chloe is now a member of the team at a brand new nursery in Bristol and the feedback is great. We could not be more proud of Chloe.
Ellice worked hard to improve her employability skills whilst she was with us, she completed a placement in animal care but decided retail was the way forward as this best suited her skills and abilities. Ellice is now a full time member of Pavers and there is already talk of future career progression.
Outcomes What did Eloise have to say about her time with us? t2 is a great practical option for anyone who doesn’t want to go to college or 6th form after school. It’s an all over great experience and not too nerve racking meeting new people, because everyone is there for the same reason.
Eloise joined t2 with a very set career path in mind, to be an accountant. Eloise worked hard to get her English skills up to level 2 as she was worried this might hold her back. Eloise identified companies she would like to work for and we contacted them on her behalf. Eloise was snapped up by Dunkley’s and is now on her way to becoming an accountant, with her first goal, her apprenticeship in accountancy at level 2.
By the end of my first day I had made new friends, the atmosphere was so comfortable that I felt like I’d known everyone for ages. The best bit about t2 is the level of maturity you get treated with by members of staff and the flexibility they give you. You are never pressured to do something you don’t want to do, however they still offer you great opportunities to support your future like the NCS programme, attending Eloise Palmer mock interviews and life- skills. As well as getting support and guidance to find your perfect apprenticeship you will learn skills that you need every day at work. Gaining qualifications that will look great on your CV is a big help too. After only 2 months with t2 I am working as a payroll apprentice in an accountancy firm in Bradley Stoke, I am so pleased with myself and my progress. The confidence I have gained in myself over the months since I left school has made me feel more mature and that my goals are achievable. t2 helped me realise that. Thank you Liz and everyone else that helped me x.
Sunil was a very memorable character who became a really popular and inspirational member of the group. After not achieving the best results in his GCSE’s Sunil was keen to show that he was capable of achieving higher levels in functional skills. Sunil went on to achieve 2 levels higher than his GCSE results and worked hard to make good applications, even though he wasn’t the best candidate on paper. In the end Sunil’s winning personality and charm won him a really sought after apprenticeship in Recruitment.

Learners from the academy visit the Rembrandt Exhibition at the Bristol Museum Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was a Dutch painter and etcher. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters and print makers in European art and the most important in Dutch history. Learners form the academy expressed interest in attending an art exhibition. After doing some research they were keen to make a visit to the Bristol Museum. A great day was had by all, with a picnic at Cabot Tower to break up the day. Learners then produced a report as part of their literacy project work, about their day and what they had learnt.
