Personal statement

“FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION FOLLOWS FORM”

It is when two of a different kind adds up together creating a greater purpose than the sum of its parts and where the inal product can no longer be distinguished a separa-‐ tion between the two. The function of the building comes from the purpose of the of user and the uses which creates the form. Concurrently, the formal conditions of culture, climate and other possible reasons would begin to re lect on how the purpose would bene it or it the users. Where form ends is the beginning of function, and where function ends is the beginning of form. When I am designing an interior space, I often derive the shape from function or from the function to the separation of interior space. From there, I would start to adjust and modify according to function if more space is needed than what it was given and the space would then represents the functions.

Never restrict yourself.

5 RAW This project designed is located in Temasek Polytechinis, Design School. The concept that i used is vending machine where ‘buying’ and ‘selling’ of design ideas takes place. Design students can use this place during their free time for any kind of activities or use it to search for their inspiration.

FIRST STOREY FLOOR PLAN On the first storey, the mysterious entrance would be the start of the journey. The transitional space could also be used for other activites and walls at both sides are available for graffitti. The white tubes are the ideas ‘collection’ point where users would deposit ideas from the second storey and other users can retrieve random ideas here.

SECOND STOREY FLOOR PLAN On the second storey, store i planned to have the space empty so that the users can create fun on their own based on their creativity with the space provided. Everyone picture ‘fun’ in different ways and there will be no restriction to how they want their ‘fun’ to be. The three white tubes on the right are meant for despositing of ideas where users would contribute to other users who are searching for inspiration.

WHITE DREAMS

Design Brief Mr Tan is Construction company’s owner. He is often out on construction site for inspection. Noise is something a construction site will have so this garden will be a place for him to calm down and relax after work. White is chosen because it represents purity, quietness and peacefulness.

LIVING ROOM

G

Concept Conc My concept is to create a white garden filled with white walls and white flowers. I chose white is because it gives a sense of purity and peacefulness which is essential to a home garden as this is the area where the owner can relax and spend time in after a long tiring day.
