WELCOME TO OUR FOURTH ANNUAL POPLAR BLUFF & TWIN ANCHOR CHAROLAIS BULL SALE

Believe it or not, its that time of year again! We’re so happy to do what we do - working in Agriculture in general, and with cattle people specifically. The people that we have gotten to know over our years in the cattle business are some of the finest you’ll meet. Thank you to everyone who has supported our breeding program in the past.We are very much looking forward to continuing our relationships and forging new ones.

Taylor Family The Taylor Family - Box 55, Chauvin, AB T0B 0V0 Phone: 780-858-2435 - John’s Cell: 780-806-3395 Email: jktaylor@telusplanet.net

We’re especially pleased to be partnering with the Weeks family again. We’ve found great partners and friends in them and appreciate everything they bring to the table.

Also, right at the top of the list is how happy we are to work with the crew at Dryland Cattle Trading Corp. They’re a great bunch, regardless of whether you look at how they treat the people they deal with or how they handle the cattle. It’s nice to be able to use a facility that has been designed with cattle comfort and handler safety and convenience in mind. As always, we have brought our bulls along gently, feeding them with their longevity in mind. They have lots of room to roam so we find that they’re athletic and tend not to get overly fat as they grow, again, increasing their health and overall reproductive potential. We still feed by hand so that we can offer a group of bulls that will be generally quiet and used to being handled. Two-year-olds are all we sell, and we do not market them anywhere else. What we offer for sale in Veteran is our top cut of virgin two-year-old bulls. In our opinion, this is about the best group of bulls that we’ve offered for sale to date. I feel like I say this in every welcome, but I guess our goal of improving the cattle that we have and the bulls that we raise for sale is going in the right direction when I can say this every year. As in past years, we will transport the bulls to Veteran a couple of days before the sale for anyone who would like to have a look before sale day. If you are closer to our farm and would like to come see them before they go south, please give us a call and we’d be happy to take you on a tour. Please come early, have a look through the bulls and then be our guests for lunch before the sale.

See you in Veteran on Tuesday, March 24!

John & Kirsten, Brad, Sammi,Cooper & Rosalie, Garrett & Amanda

Delivery Any bulls picked up on sale day will be eligible for a $100 sale credit. If you aren’t set up to take your bull and would like him delivered closer to breeding season, we’d prefer if you put insurance on before he goes back to the farm. We take every care with the bulls that do go back home, but going to town and then home again resets the pecking order and sometimes they get hurt while working all of that out. Karen Bouchard of Stockmens Insurance will be in attendance on sale day to assist you. Buyers must take delivery of their bulls by May 1, 2020. Delivery of bulls is available to central points and in most cases, right to your farm or ranch.

Almond is a tan Eldorado son who consistently calves easily, polls those calves and gives them fantastic feet. We have used him on a variety of cow types and have been very happy all around. The daughters have lots of milk and are highly maternal.

Chancellor was the high selling bull at Horseshoe E’s 2016 sale. Originally we used him on heifers and found that he had the performance to use on cows too. His calves are consistently vigorous at birth and stamped with the same muscle shape and super feet under them as he possesses. His daughters are growing into nice young cows with beautiful udders.

The Weeks Family Box 372 Castor, AB T0C 0X0 Brian’s Cell: 403-741-2287 Clifford’s Cell: 403-741-2626 Email: twinanchor26@gmail.com

Welcome to our 4th Annual Bull Sale. We have a nice set of bulls here on offer for you this year. Thank you again to our sale partners, the Taylor family. It’s good to have made such great friends and partners. Also thank you to the Dryland staff for assisting with sale preparations and providing the facilities. The cattle market continues to be strong and Char cross calves are in high demand. Every year we see more and more cattlemen realizing the benefit of the Charolais breed as a cross. Charolais bulls cross good with pretty much everything: Simmental, Angus, Hereford, Limousin, Gelbvieh and the list goes on. Char cross calves bring a premium and they perform, plain and simple. Buy yourself a Charolais bull and put some extra dollars in your pocket when you sell your calves. These bulls have been raised without creep feed so the weaning weights are natural and only influenced by milk and grass. Our bulls are brought along gentle. We don’t push them. Take the extra time and have a look at their feet, our bulls will last. This year the bulls have been pail fed a premium 14% protein pellet ration from MasterFeeds along with a custom mineral from Blue Rock. Good temperament is a must at Twin Anchor Charolais and you can trust our bulls to be easy to work with. Our herd sires have all have proven to be easy calvers, with that extra punch for good weaning weights. The genetics we have built our herd with have been carefully picked, and I think you will agree the quality shows in these bulls. I think this group of bulls has something to offer for everybody. Bid with confidence, and if you have been thinking of trying a Charolais bull, maybe this is your year. Even if you don’t plan on buying, come out and check out our operation on sale day. If you have any questions or would like to view the bulls, we will be happy to help.

As each sale catalogue deadline looms we are met with a wave of anticipation. We are so excited about the 2020 calf crop hitting the ground and bull potential there but we must get focused back to the task on hand. Thank you for your support in past years. We are grateful for your interest in our program. Our aim is to provide you with good, honest, quiet bulls that will pass on heavy muscling to their sons and strong maternal traits to their daughters. We bring them along slowly, pail feeding a growing ration and offering free choice hay/greenfeed. We do not offer creep feed to them as calves. We want you to see what these bulls and their mommas can do. We aim to have them presented at sale day with enough fleshing to demonstrate their potential but not pushed to the point that their feet and development have been compromised. We love the weights of those fattened bulls at sales as much as you do but know that it is neither realistic or healthy. These bulls are ready to bring you that pen full of buckskin or silver calves to push down the scale. We love Charolais...we love their big, beautiful calves but many are asking for smaller birth weights, so we have tried to bring more to you. We used heavy birth weight bulls on our commercial herd for our 2019 calf crop and by heavy we mean 120-130 lbs. and come March and April there was not a single calving issue and what a group of calves. We sold them earlier than we’ve ever sold (September) and had heavier weights than we’ve ever had. We choose our seedstock based on calving ease as the length and body shape make a much bigger impact on an easy delivery than does birth weight. We are excited about what the Charolais breed is doing for the beef market and we’re confident that the Charolais advantage can work for you too. We look forward to seeing you on sale day and passing on some of our excitement. Cliff and Debbie Weeks

Our first bull calf from Yellow Jacket and we like him. He is very deep bodied and thick like his father. We loved his low birth weight ‘Widow Maker’ sire at the 2016 Pro-Char Sale and were given the opportunity to purchase him from Bremner Charolais in 2018. This is his cherry red dam’s first bull calf. Yellow Jacket’s progeny are testing homozygous polled as well as great carcass traits. “Gordie actually gets his name from Clifford’s big brother. To keep a family farm multigenerational and enduring the test of time it takes generational input and strong leadership. We would like to pay tribute to Clifford’s eldest brother, Gordon. The eldest in their family of 10, with Clifford coming along as number nine, Gordon quickly became a role model not just to us but to our children. He and his wife, Gloria, have encouraged, spurred on and entertained through countless fishing trips and family outings. Our daughter-in-law has Huntington’s Disease and Gloria faithfully helps with housekeeping and brings a meal every Thursday. Gordon was instrumental in teaching and encouraging Clifford’s love of heavy equipment operating, road building and dirt moving. A heavy duty mechanic and all around handyman made Gordon ‘Mr. Fix It’ for our tractors and other odd jobs. He jumped right in to help us renovate the old family farmhouse. We rent three quarters of his land. He has been as excited to see the family farm evolve as we have. Any farm dog immediately bonds with Gordon. A big man with an even bigger heart. We want to thank him for years of love, labor and encouragement.”

Resistol is one of those herd changing bulls. Backed by two of the breed’s greats, Winn Mans Skaggs on the top side and Merit Roundup on the bottom. He was one of the highest selling Charolais bulls in Canada in 2017 at $35,000. Resistol’ s depth of body and hair coat are exceptional. He keeps his condition so well and disposition is unmatched. We have retained a lot of females from Resistol and are loving them. He adds hair, depth and thickness, which are sought after qualities in our Canadian market. The calves are born with ease, and lots of vigor. We are currently molding our herd around this bull.

When Yellow Jacket sold as a yearling we were extremely impressed with the muscle and total package he had to offer. That year we were in need of a heifer bull and bought Rango but would have loved to get Yellow Jacket as well. When we heard he was for sale, we jumped right on it. This is our first offering of his progeny and they have not disappointed..

Cleveland is a bull out of a bred heifer that I purchased from the Sandan dispersal. I looked over all the breds and she was my pick, and bred to Bluegrass. Her bull calf did not disappoint and I retained him for our herd. I think you will be hard pressed to find a tan Bluegrass son as good as Cleveland. He is a small framed hairy bull with a wide top and large hip.
