1st Annual Bull Sale Tuesday, March 28, 2017 - 1:00 pm Dryland Cattle Trading Corp - Veteran, AB

Welcome To our First Annual Poplar Bluff Stock Farm/Twin Anchor Charolais Bull Sale! It’s with great pleasure that we have partnered with the Weeks family in our new venture. We share a common goal of breeding moderate framed, easy fleshing Charolais bulls that will sire the kind of calves that put a little jingle in your jeans when you sell them! The Charolais herd at Poplar Bluff had its roots in John’s purchase of heifers to use in 4-H in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Over time, the focus shifted from the commercial cow herd to expanding the purebred Charolais herd. With over 30 years in the Charolais business, we can offer bulls from cow families that we’ve had for several generations. Most of the bulls on offer have maternal sisters working in the cowherd so we feel confident in promoting their maternal strengths to anyone who keeps replacement heifers. We calve our cows out on about 80 acres, starting in mid-April. We’ve found that with lots of room and exercise, calving problems are nearly eliminated and birthweights are greatly reduced.

Taylor Family

At weaning, all of the replacement calves go onto silage and some rolled oats. There is no need for us to push them in that first year – they are allowed to just grow. The bulls stay on pasture right at home as yearlings. They continue to be fed a couple of pounds of oats each day, mainly because we see the benefit of hand feeding in their dispositions. Once fall comes, we will introduce a bit of barley to the oats and continue feeding silage and free choice hay. These boys usually take a growth spurt and need the additional feed at that time. For over 30 years, our focus has remained the same – we want a herd of mama cows that do their job with a minimum of fuss. We have a herd full of moderate sized cows with good feet, beautiful udders, and the ability to convert feed to pounds very efficiently. Our own herdbulls are a tremendous set of individuals with good feet, large testicles and the added bonus that docility brings. We have a very strong set of bulls on offer this year. The bulls are good footed, good haired, and well balanced over-all. We’d like to thank the crew at Dryland for all of their help in preparation for our sale. They are cattlemen themselves and their assistance has been invaluable. A huge thank you also goes out to our past buyers. They’ve continued to support our breeding program for a lot of years and we are so appreciative of the relationships that we have with them! Our family, friends and neighbors are a large part of our success and we would be lost without all of them. Whether it’s lending a hand to process calves, haul bulls to and from the sale, or just to kick the dirt and wonder if the forecast of rain will come to pass, we appreciate you all more than you can imagine! Our farm is located north of Chauvin. We welcome anyone who would like to view the bulls prior to the sale. We realize it is a bit of a drive for some, so the bulls will be moved to Dryland a couple of days before the sale for viewing there. If you have any questions about the bulls or our program in general, please be sure to call or email. Come and view the bulls and then be our guests for lunch at noon on sale day. We look forward to seeing you in Veteran on March 28! John & Kirsten, Brad, Sammi & Cooper, Garrett & Amanda

Curly certainly lives up to his name. He is out of a cow that consistently calves easily and has a ton of milk. At 10 years of age, she is still going strong. His sire was a Roundup son we used on heifers and his dam typically has smaller, vigorous calves, so calving ease will be just one more thing to admire about this bull. Check him out sale day - you won’t be disappointed!

MVY Awesome 1A is a bull that we admired for his muscle shape and haircoat. We liked that he had a completely different pedigree from anything on the farm. He’s an easy calving bull that throws very stylish calves, all stamped with his head shape and haircoat.

The Weeks Family - Box 372 Castor, AB T0C 0X0 Brian’s Cell: 403-741-2287 Clifford’s Cell: 403-741-2626 Email: twinanchor26@gmail.com Welcome to our first Annual Bull Sale. We are very excited for this sale, and proud of these bulls we have to offer. Thank you to the Taylor family for agreeing to join forces with us, and to the Dryland staff for assisting with sale preparations and providing the facilities. The cattle market continues to be on a high this year and Char cross calves are in high demand. This pen of bulls we have on offer have come along really well. They are stout, hairy and good footed. These bulls have been fed a premium ration. We worked with Hi Pro feeds and came up with the best ration option, alongside our hay, to promote growth and longevity. The bulls have been pail fed and have great temperaments. Our Herdsires have been used on our commercial cow operation as well as the purebred cows. All have proven to be easy calvers, with that extra punch for good weaning weights. Arizona 105A now has heifers calving out. They all have great udders, and have superb maternal traits. The genetics we have built our herd with have been carefully picked, and I think you will agree the quality shows in these bulls. I think this group of bulls has something to offer for everybody. Even if you don’t plan on buying, come out and check out our operation on sale day. If you have any questions or would like to view the bulls, I will be happy to help.

This sale is the result of a rich cattle heritage. We were privileged to work alongside of our parents, chasing, sorting and caring for cattle and we will be forever grateful to them for passing on their cattle wisdom to us and teaching us to appreciate the cattle industry with all of its’ highs and lows. Dad and Mom (Larry & Bev Steeves) are but a phone call away when we have pressing cattle questions. Both of us love good cattle regardless of the breed but since Cliff was a young boy, the Charolais breed has always been his favorite. The Charolais breed continues to bring a top end animal that muscles well and adds pounds quickly to its frame. The new generation of purebred Charolais now promises and delivers easier calving and red factor coloring but still produces poundage and rate of gain that works excellently with any breed. Buckskin, silver, the possibilities are endless. Our Charolais animals have not disappointed and we are positive you will feel the same. These bulls are predominately from heifer mothers and are exceptionally quiet and growthy. They were weaned in September and pail feed a light ration balanced with free choice hay. Thank you for your interest and support. Cliff and Debbie Weeks

Brian and Karissa Weeks

Brian, Karissa and Family

We are delighted to team up with Poplar Bluff, John and Kirsten Taylor, a family who brings you honest, top quality bulls and treat you with the hospitality of a good friend.

Logan

Cliff and Debbie

Thank-you...

To our son Keith, owner and operator of Rangeland Auto in Coronation who keeps our equipment up and running. Keith helps out with the cows whenever he can and owns a few of his own range cows. He is hoping to get into the purebreds down the road. To our neighbors and cousins, Keith and Les Holloway (along with the Holloway Farms crew) who run our local neighborhood watch and are always observant for something out of sorts as they drive by. To brothers Gordon and Kevin Weeks who don’t mind lending a hand when the occasion arises. To our good friends in the cattle industry, your encouragement and comradery is what keeps us going through thick and thin.

El Paso is a quarter French, red Kingston son. We absolutely love the performance capabilities of this bull. He was the 2nd high selling yearling of the Pro-Char bulls in 2015 by a small margin, and was our top pick all the way. He passes on his hair, muscling, and big testicle measurements to his sons. And who can forget length of body! They just don’t come any longer than this bull. You will notice some added pounds to birth weight on his calves, but it’s because they are long. They calve easy on cows and are very vigorous at birth.
