Welcome one and all to our Justamere 24th Annual Bull Sale. We want to first thank all of our many friends and customers for purchasing our genetics and sticking with our program over these many decades, we certainly appreciate it. This past six weeks across Canada and even many of the United States has been challenging at the least and on the verge of questioning our collective sanity at the most. Of course I’m referring to the cold snap that still has not ended. If one were political, one should ask geniuses like Al Gore or David Suzuki to come visit us while we thaw waterers or do chores in this mecca of global warming. Enough of that, Canadians rise to the challenge. Ranchers are the leaders of this cause. Why, because we have to. The collective care, sweat, love and passion for the cattle business is on display every year and we commend and are thankful to be a part of this effort of raising safe, healthy, profitable beef for the world. This year’s sale offers you the chance to improve your programs, build your strength and depth of your herd and profit from proven predictable genetics and traits that have been the cornerstone here at Justamere for 120 years. These herd sires possess the calving ease, maternal and carcass superiority that you have come to expect. We offer bulls that are bred with our customer in mind. They are fed to perform, not get fat and meltdown into a disappointment later on. The feet and leg structure is our most crucial aspect of selecting for this sale. With your investment in your future, we feel it’s our duty to try our best to combine our real world knowledge, the EPD and performance data and the genetics to guarantee your success. We use AI but we walk the very best herd sires we can create or afford to help back this up. The HA Cowboy Up 5405 sons in this sale are a remarkable group of bulls. They pass the test easily for do ability, character, carcass superiority, EPD performance data and, simply put, the cowboy kind. A very special genetic makeup in the Lot 11 Montana Colonel 7191 herd sire. He is the very first available in Canada to our knowledge and what a tremendous opportunity to those of you who wish to grab it. Our philosophy comes from generations of cattlemen and women. Calve them easy, turn them to grass and let them grow. Keep the feet and legs right, keep the udders right and finally, cull hard to get rid of the undesirables. We do this at Justamere each and every year. Between ourselves and Running Steady, we are calving 200 Angus females. We have selected our top 50 bulls for this sale. That, we hope, speaks volumes to what our program is. The average birth weight is a perfect 79 lbs. and the average weaning weight is 793 lbs. The market has been steady, the future for the cattle business is still very bright and the time is now to expand and build up your inventory with the right genetics for the future. The dividends paid for the investment into a good herd sire or program have never been more evident. Please keep in mind, we will deliver your bulls, semen test and fully guarantee your satisfaction with us or any one of our consignors. We also offer some very unique embryo and semen opportunities for our many purebred customers. This year is no different. We want to thank our family. My parents, Lyal and Virginia, have been the foundation for us all and I count myself extremely fortunate to have them to consult with on a regular basis. My brothers, Lyal, Stirling and Ben and their families, have very busy, successful lives but still have time to answer questions and help throughout the year. My sister, A.J., is very busy with her law firm but has time to help, consult and usually make it to the sale. We appreciate all these efforts. Finally, my family. Shelly has always been the back bone, from helping out daily to handling the bookwork and raising four healthy, happy children and going along with some of my crazy ideas. Also, doing the midnight checks these last six weeks, thank you. Our son, Jon, has taken over the day to day operations and is doing an incredible job assisted by Jim, Tyra and Jorja, who are all still in school. Tyra by choice, as she is in her second year of vet studies. Also, Jordan Phillips has been a huge help these last two winters.
