Hi Everyone!
A new decade! And 15 years of doing bull sales! Wow, we sure have had a lot of customers over those years and we thank every one of you for your continued support and interest in our program. Over the years the pen has been developed with you in mind. We try to offer bulls built for calving ease with moderate frame, without sacrificing natural muscling and good performance. They have thick tops and hindquarters. The one thing that stands out most in the pen this year is how consistent they are. Our cow herd is just as consistent.Along with growth performance, maternal traits are important to us, our cowherd(of 200) Milk EPD average is 2.0 points above the national. If you have heifers from our bulls you like, don’t be afraid to retain them for your program. Your safety and our’s is a priority, we are not hesitant to cull a good performing cow or bull for poor disposition or attitude. We have a couple of new herd sires, one, Dogpatch Gillette 7E, is a totally new pedigree for us, the other, Main Ledger Up 51E, retains some of the lines we have found desirable. Our new AI sire for this crop is LT Affinity, who gave us a lot more heifers than bulls! The remaining are the ‘tried, tested and true’. The bulls were started off on Haylage bales, balancing the ration with hand fed pellets. Some oats were combined a little too tough and were given whole, for a while, to the bulls as a ‘hot lunch’ as Henrik refers to it! We test our feed and balance the ration for a 3.0 lb./day gain. From the desk at T Bar... Welcome to the HEJ Charolais Annual Bull Sale on February 28th at the Innisfail Auction Mart, Innisfail, Alberta. Starting a new decade, Henrik, Jeralyn and Marina will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of this sale and supplying the livestock industry with value added sires. To start this new decade, HEJ offers the most consistent, uniform set of bulls in their history. Although Jeralyn and Marina go to a few shows, livestock shows have never been their main focus. Henrik will tell you that their goal is to produce bulls that will get their customer’s cows bred and provide a sound, fertile sire that will add pounds at weaning, no matter what breed of cattle you are mating them to. Good bulls and repeat buyers are priority at HEJ. Customers have told us that the reason they come back year after year is because the bulls work. Many of the bulls in this offering are genetic outcrosses in the breed. They are rugged, with lots of hair and testicle and prepared for the sale on a high roughage diet insuring soundness. Whether you select a bull from a lead pen or one from the last pen, you can be assured of the high degree of HEJ quality. The ranch is located just minutes south east of Innisfail and is convenient to stop and preview the bulls and their mothers. He comes by his name honestly. His golden locks, heavy muscle and smooth shoulder, combined with a clean sheath, make him a perfect catch. He has great EPDs and his performance ranks him in the top 10 in our bull group. His dam is a dark red tank that has given us a bull calf every year and all three of them are out working, two in Iowa and one in the Strathmore area.

In 2016 we knew we needed a new sire with a different pedigree for our herd. As with anyone, there was a budget. Time progressed through sales that year and well into 2017 and we were coming up short on many bulls on offer. We’d been told about Gillette and took part online, with a spur of the moment button push, Gillette was ours! We haven’t looked back. He is a well-muscled individual and he stamps his progeny well with it. He is docile, a trait we place heavy emphasis on. He has a good foot and walks out well.

We partnered on this bull with Char-Maine Ranching. He is an own son of LT Rushmore 8060 PLD and, of course, an LT Brenda dam (always a good producer). He was Steve’s pick of the bull pen and his pick of dams. He has added the length and frame we were looking for. We admire his general stature and foot size. And, he is one of the top docile bulls we have had on the farm. Our first females are calving and they are looking good with excellent udders.

What we noticed about the Rushmore bulls the most is their length, and their performance. The Rushmores are the top gaining group and this guy is pretty much the top in the group. He comes from a good sound female who, at 12, is still walking the fields and is bred back for the end of January, so longevity and fertility is in him.

Affinity was a high seller at Lindskov-Thiel as a calf. We have used LT sires quite a bit and are very impressed with their calving ability, female quality and structure, as well as performance. It appears this guy’s dam is holding strong to her maternal roots and keeping the line on the normal Charolais gestation! He is definitely a cow bull. His dam has a story; after her first calf she developed a kidney infection, after a month of daily treatments she came back with twins, a couple of singles, a set of twins, a single, all January calvings…and yes bred again for January. I admire this cow not only for her fertility and staying power, but she is a beautiful dark red and eye appealing, deep chested, thick, well uddered and good milking cow. Chester is line bred Roundup, passing on all that good muscling and length. He’s a keeper!

Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final. Announcements: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures. Breeder’s Guarantee: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.
Liabilities: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co.
