Welcome

We would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and say good bye to 2019! It was a challenging year for many. Starting off with a long, bitter, cold stretch during calving, a cooler than normal summer, then a tough fall for anyone with crop to get harvested. However, with everything last year that was thrown at us, ranchers and farmers once again showed their dedication and continued resilience and adaptability. So once again it’s a new year and with it comes change, new opportunities and another new life cycle. All of us who have livestock get to see this life cycle annually. It gives me so much satisfaction to see the calves being born this time of year and then watch them develop from now through to weaning, with select animals getting the opportunity to continue to develop into herd bulls and replacement females. It’s this time of year that you get to evaluate how your choice of replacements has or hasn’t worked out. It’s this time of year when you choose which new bloodline, which new herd sire prospect you choose to invest in to take your breeding program ahead into the future to produce your next calf crop. I was once told by a well-respected cattleman; breed for maternally strong genetics, breed to produce great replacement females because bull calves are just a by-product of a great herd of cows. When you have selected and bred maternally, your bull calves will also excel. I believe that this has been our focus at Grant Lodge Farms, breed for a functional cow who is sound, good uddered, fertile and can raise those top quality replacement females as well as those heavy pay weight steers. Once again, as with the annual life cycle of our livestock, we have our annual offering of bulls for sale by private treaty, with 100% of them being sold off the farm. We believe by selling these bulls off the farm we can enhance your bull buying experience, in a no pressure setting were you can come by anytime, any day and tour the bull pen. While you are here we can have coffee and discuss with you what you are looking for in a bull and then help you select the bulls that best match your needs. Furthermore, we have put together a cow herd we are extremely proud of and we believe you should have a chance to see the mother of a bull before you purchase that bull, an advantage you don’t often get in a bull sale setting. With our private treaty the prices are listed in this catalogue and you can select a bull within your budget. Also, when you purchase bulls from a sale, the breeder almost always requires you to buy insurance on your purchase. This typically will add 10% to your purchase. As always, our warranty and guarantee program on our bulls is that you do not need to insure your purchase for the time it is left with us. We will guarantee your purchase sound, semen tested, kept and delivered when you are ready for them, at no charge. In the unfortunate case that a bull is injured or doesn’t semen test before we deliver, there are a couple options for you: a) you can select another bull to replace that bull or b) we will lend you an aged herd bull to breed your cows this year as well as return your deposit so that you may purchase a replacement bull the following year. Once again we will be hosting our Second Annual Grant Lodge Farm Open House, to showcase our bullpen while sharing in fellowship with other livestock enthusiasts. On February 17, 2020 join us in our new barn facility for a hot lunch, coffee and some good home baking, along with a tour through the cow herd and the bullpen. We look forward to seeing you on February 17, 2020 or any other day that suits your schedule, as bulls are available 365 days a year. We can be reached anytime at (306) 441-7984, to discuss your bull buying needs.

STF Top Notch DR55

Springcreek Cash 148A

Silver Lake Dealer 60B In the Simmental bull pen, we have a very strong set of red STF Top Notch calves. STF Top Notch was the bull we purchased and imported from the legendary Silvertowne Farms in Indiana. His first daughters are just starting to calve and they are impressive, broody females, with awesome udders. In his short career, he already has left a lifetime of influence on our herd. Come check out his sons and daughters. We have two black bulls, both with some chrome on their face, both sired by our old Springcreek Cash 148A bull, who has been used extensively for years in our commercial herd and is being incorporated into our purebred herd. Rounding out the Simmental pen is a pair of Fullblood bulls who are full brothers and were purchased as embryos from Kuntz Simmentals. They come from one of the strongest, most consistent Simmental females in the Kuntz herd.

These two bulls are full brothers who are the result of embryos we purchased at the Agribition Simmental Sale from Kuntz Simmentals. Their dam, Kuntz Miss Moses 03X has a long history of production. She raised two daughters, selling as heifer calves to Lenny Mark for $10,000 each. Her son, Kuntz Climax sold to Pine Creek Simmentals for $47,000, along with several other high selling bulls over the years for the Kuntz family. This cow family would be the most influential family on the Kuntz farm and is the same family that produced the Congo bull. When you analyze their pedigree, you will find the great Romano and Justice bloodlines combined with the Moses cow family which will be consistent and predictable.

This year’s Angus division, once again, is anchored by Motown and Confidence sons. The guess work is done as these bulls aren’t new to our program, both have daughters that last year raised their first calves. Those daughters of Motown and Confidence have proven their predictability and mothering capabilities with great maternal merit to raise those highly marketable replacement females. Amongst this group you will find lots of calving ease heifer bulls and some larger birthweight power bulls. As always, we believe that the strength of one’s calf crop starts with a strong maternal cowherd. Buy these proven genetics with confidence.
