Red Fish Lake Lodge Established 1929
Situated in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, Redfish Lake Lodge is a seasonal lodging establishment on the north shore of the five-mile long glacial lake. Open from Memorial Day Weekend to the end of September, its accommodations include 21 cabin units, 11 motel rooms, and nine lodge rooms. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities both at the Lodge and in the nearby area. Activities include paddleboat's, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, rock- climbing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and more. The Lodge also has a full service restaurant, a rustic western lounge with a full service bar, a marina, and a general store. Redfish Lake Lodge store also provides groceries, snacks, ice, curios, souvenirs, clothing, camping and fishing gear and a Laundromat for their guests and for campers in the area. There is also a gas station, public showers and horse corrals close by. The Lodge was originally built in 1929 and sits on over 16 acres of US Forest Service land. The lodge has been improved through the years but the structure and feel of the lodge has not changed much in the last 83 years. Visiting the lodge is like taking a step back in time. One of the more recent additions to the lodge is the outdoor Gazebo. The Gazebo is located outside the Lodge next to the lake and provides a full service menu and bar. In mid August few things compare to a cheeseburger and a ice cold beer at the Red Fish Lake lodge Gazebo. If you were fortunate enough to visit the lodge as a child it is a real treat to visit again as an adult, since things have remained relatively the same it is easy to feel a little nostalgic. Revisiting those childhood memories or making new memories with your own family makes this beautiful spot in Idaho, a place you will never forget.
Red Fish Lake is named for the brilliant sockeye salmon that once returned from the Pacific Ocean in such massive quantities that the lake shimmered red during spawning season.
How to get there From Boise you have a few choices You can go on Highway 21 from east Boise and go through Idaho City to Lowman to Stanley Option 2: You can go the long way through Fairfield to Sun Valley back to Stanley. (only suggested if you want to visit Sun Valley) My favorite route is State Hwy 55 to Banks Lowman Rd through Garden Valley and connect to Hwy 21 in Lowman. This is a beautiful drive and has less curves then going through Idaho city. What to bring - First and for most you will need to bring warm clothes. Even in July and August temperatures can drop below freezing when the sun goes down. - Black bears are common in the campgrounds and will eat your food if given the opportunity, bring a cooler that can be stored in your car. - There are miles of trails around the lake for walking or riding bikes. Most of the trails along the lake are easy so pulling a child chariot behind your bike is a synch BE sure to bring your Mountain Bikes - Bring water toys. - Fishing pools, make sure to check what fish are in season as there are salmon in the lake and streams that are seasonal or prohibited. - Rain clothes - Camera And yes you can even bring you cell phone Redifish has excellent cell service due to a booster service at the visitor center. If you absolutely have to bring some work with you, there is free WI-FI located at the visitor center. They even have a computer on site for visitors to use.
Inflatable kayaks are the way to go. Easy to pack and comfortable to ride. You could literally spend the whole day on the water lost in the scenery. If you want to wash some stress away, try a little water therapy on Redfish lake.
