OFF STORE _ BELGRADE _ 2006 possition held: ARCHITECT/ COLLABORATION WITH ARCH.D.MRDJA Space of only 13m2 was rented for this T-shirt store in the centre of Belgrade. The owner, a young street wear manufacturer, wanted to gain both an original display of products, a significant storage space and enough room for customers to freely move around. The solution was found in creating a closet-like structure that would group and conceal all store's functions: seller's desk, cabin, display space, storage space. Some of these are accessed directly, others by opening panels. The materials chosen for the store are trying to bridge the gap between different tastes of several target groups that vary from alternative youth to fancy urban crowd. The closet-like structure has a light steel construction and is covered by OSB panels. Rough panels made without surface layer reveal its' wood chip structure. Except for a layer of varnish, panels are left untreated and thus making a contrast to silky wallpapers that wrap the store. A special feature are plastic boxes hanging from the ceiling. They provide extra storage space. When properly folded, 10 to 15 T-shirts can fit, on top of each other, in each of these boxes. As they are transparent from below, the boxes also serve as a T-shirt display element.
