She has provided expert advice and delivered strong results for corporate, not-for-profits, and high-profile individuals and has been a trusted partner of candidates for public office. ICHAEL OLIVA joined Sykes Global Communications as President in 2017. Michael comes to Sykes Global with over two decades of profound industry expertise to oversee our political communications, strategy operations, and overall PR campaigns. His employment of demographic research and audience targeting provides our clients the invaluable insights necessary to win political and marketing campaigns alike. Michael began his political and marketing career in 1996 as a door-to-door canvasser and fundraiser for Clean Water Action in Boston, and as the New York Daily News writes, “has gone on to win long-shot races all over the (New York) city.” He has served as a campaign manager, media strategist, and field coordinator on numerous local, state-wide and national electoral efforts, which include Clinton/Gore Victory '96, Bill Bradley for President, and Barack Obama for President. During the nineties, Michael worked in the municipal offices of Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger and New York City Public Advocate Mark Green, where he developed an early reputation as an energetic political operative always willing to go the extra mile to get the job done no matter how difficult the obstacles before him. Crowned the “Court Contest King” by the New York Daily News, from 2002 through 2008 Michael won six consecutive judicial campaigns as manager, each of which were thought of as long-shot candidacies. His articles on topics ranging from politics to government to restaurant reviews have appeared in City & State, New York Civic, and Politico New York. As a consultant, Michael has helped to organize fundraising events for the New York Women’s Bar Association (NYWBA), the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA), and the Bronx Family Court Bar Association (BFCBA). Michael is a recurring political analyst for Spectrum Cable’s New York 1 News, and a frequent guest on its signature political show, “Inside City Hall.” He has also appeared as a featured guest analyst on City & State Magazine’s City & State TV. For two years, Michael participated as an expert panelist at the Museum of the City of New York for discussions on topics ranging from judicial selection and ethics to presidential elections. He has spoken as a guest lecturer on politics, government and U.S. History at Columbia Law School and Baruch College. In 2011, Michael was appointed an Executive Committee Member of the Mid-Manhattan NAACP, and through 2013 proudly and actively served as its Civic Engagement Chair. Michael served as strategic consultant to Gale Brewer’s resoundingly successful run for Manhattan Borough President in 2013. In 2014, he managed J. Machelle Sweeting’s winning campaign for Civil Court Judge, as well as Robert Jackson’s impressive bid for New York State Senate. In 2015, he was a consultant to the first election victory of Brandon Sall, the Surrogate Judge of Weschester County. Michael has a 5-1 record in countywide races. In addition to consulting for Brewer and Sall, he managed the successful campaigns of New York County Surrogate Judge Nora Anderson and New York County Civil Court Judge Nancy Bannon, both elected countywide in 2008. In 2017, he served as a consultant to both Anne Swern, who finished second in the race for Kings County District Attorney, and Ellen Edwards, who won a borough-wide campaign for civil court in Brooklyn.

At the age of 87, Arlington Leon Eastmond, Jr. continues to follow the dream he shared with his father – to build a strong legacy of “excellence through perseverance and dedication.” His grandson, Tyren Eastmond is constantly reminded of these conquests as he performs his responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer of EASCO and as future custodian of this great American legacy. Never resting on his laurels or his family name, it was Tyren’s relentless commitment and determination to learn the business from the ground up that enabled him to climb the corporate ladder. With a reputation for delivering results and his academic background in management, finance, marketing, and entrepreneur studies, Tyren has successfully reduced EASCO’s operational costs by 50%, while increasing both efficiency and work productivity. His proven track record, along with life experiences, has placed him next in line to succeed his grandfather as President and CEO of EASCO. EASCO has consistently set new standards for high quality products and customer satisfaction; its General Contracting Division has an unmatched reputation for completing difficult underground piping and electrical utility projects. A catalyst for social change even before it gained popularity, Leon Eastmond established a program where he hired and trained the formerly incarcerated—helping ex-offenders get their lives back on track by providing them a job. This is just one of many philanthropic initiatives that has made the Eastmond name as synonymous with giving back as the EASCO boiler and tank. The Eastmond Company subsidiaries include: A.L. ABOUT THE EASTMOND COMPANY At nearly 100 years old, The Eastmond Company (EASCO) is the oldest and largest black-owned boiler and tank manufacturer and supplier in the United States. Arlington Leon Eastmond, Sr., a blacksmith from Barbados, founded the family owned and operated in 1926, which was initially located on Harlem, NY where he began shoeing horses and putting springs on cars. Several years later he procured a welding machine first and then a welding truck, becoming a tank manufacturer and eventually selling labor to assemble boilers. Before his death in 1981, Arlington Leon Eastmond, Sr. passed his expansive knowledge of welding and boiler repair down to his son, Arlington Leon Eastmond, Jr., who began working alongside his father at the young age of 12 years old. He was just 30 years old when he was promoted to a major management role overseeing the financing, product development, personnel, marketing, sales and over-all production. As the current President and CEO, Leon Eastmond, Jr.’s vision and leadership skills, cultivated by his predecessor, have helped make EASCO into the success it is today. EASCO maintains a diverse clientele from the public and private sector. The EASCO plant sits on 220,000 square feet of land, employs close to 100 people, and EASCO boilers and tanks can be found in over 15,000 locations such as the World Trade Center, New York Yankee Stadium and Trump Towers to name some.

Someone dear to you has passed away and now you’re faced with complex legal issues.

Where do you turn? What are your rights?

Surrogate’s Court can be an intimidating place. A good judge should see the world through the eyes of those who come before the court – not just from high on the bench.

NORA ANDERSON understands what it takes to serve the needs of families and the needs of our community.

“The Surrogate’s Court handles some of the most personal and contentious family issues. As such, this Court must conduct itself in a manner that serves the people and justice above all. If elected, I will create an environment of integrity, fairness, knowledge, and sensitivity to ensure justice is served. I would be honored to have your vote.”

The Surrogate’s Court is truly the “People’s Court.” It handles sensitive legal issues such as adoptions, appointment of guardians for incapacitated persons, and will contests. The Surrogate should be sensitive to the problems of the elderly, the disabled, and people who do not have a lawyer and must represent themselves. As a former Chief and Deputy Clerk in Manhattan Surrogate’s Court and now as an attorney representing those before the Court, Nora is familiar with the problems facing parties and their attorneys, and she is eager to use her experience to offer solutions and improve the quality of the court.

ENDING PATRONAGE When attorneys are assigned to cases in the court under a system of patronage, political wheeling and dealing and favoritism get placed above the best interests of the clients they are charged with representing. Nora will appoint attorneys based on merit and fairness – a process that will better serve the people that Surrogate’s Court is supposed to protect. IMPROVING APPOINTMENT OF GUARDIANS As part of her effort to protect the rights of people before the court Nora Anderson will work to significantly improve the quality of court-appointed guardianship by providing specially trained attorneys who understand Surrogate’s Court. This system will not only provide better representation, it will also help relieve families of the burden of paying for legal guardians.

By making Surrogate’s Court more open and easier to navigate, Nora hopes to widen public access and knowledge. Because Nora Anderson knows that keeping the public better informed and aware of its rights is the only way to ensure a just outcome for all.

NORA ANDERSON is a proven

culture of its Surrogate’s Court.

Surrogate’s Court can be an intimidating place. Nora is committed to creating a

compassionate environment and a “can do” attitude so that people are treated with respect and know that the court is there to serve them and their families.

Appoint Pro Se Clerk Always have an attorney present in court to assist the public and new attorneys in navigating the legal system.

Reduce Patronage Reform our courts so they serve all parties, and attorneys are accountable to the people they represent.

Protect the Elderly Ensure seniors know their rights, and that the court is there to help them and accessible to all.

Clean Up the Court Rid the court of Special Interests, Corruption and Patronage. Establish an Office of the Special Guardian where attorneys are specially trained in Surrogate Law, and are accountable to a supervisor. This will ensure representation by qualified court appointed guardians, not those chosen through patronage and cronyism.

Protect LGBT Rights Educate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community on its rights under existing laws and ensure equal treatment before the court.
