2018 BSA Officer Boot Camp

What Attendees Can Expect: Introduction to the Bank Secrecy Act All employees of a financial institution have a role to play in the success of the institution’s Bank Secrecy Act compliance program. This portion of the “2018 BSA Officer Boot Camp” will provide you with the tools needed to provide your entire team with a basic understanding of the requirements for compliance. Customer Due Diligence and Beneficial Ownership – the New “5th” Pillar According to “Bankers Toolbox”, the new Customer Due Diligence rule is the most significant change to BSA since the USA PATRIOT Act, and will require the strengthening of BSA/AML programs nationwide. Examiners are looking for institutions to fine tune their CDD processes to ensure they are strong enough to carry the risk at your institution. Everything CTR This portion of the Boot Camp will concentrate on the need for CTR filing as well as the key aspects of completing electronically filed CTRs, and CTRs for armored car deliveries. We will provide examples of multiple transactions and explain aggregation at various levels including customer, account, and conductor focused CTRs. Exempting customers from CTR reporting will also be addressed. Determining Appropriate Risks During this discussion we will explore the factors that affect a financial institution’s BSA risk profile and explain the importance of proper risk analysis steps and factors to consider. We will focus on how to identify the risks and assesses the impact and implement measures and controls to reduce and manage the risk. Suspicious Transactions – Detecting, Investigating & Reporting Suspicious activity reporting forms the cornerstone of the BSA reporting system. It is critical to the United States’ ability to utilize financial information to combat terrorism, terrorist financing, money laundering, and other financial crimes. Financial institutions should recognize that the quality of SAR content is critical to the adequacy and effectiveness of the suspicious activity reporting system.
