Last month I was in Guatemala on our student mission trip. As most mission trips go, it was meaningful and we saw God do some incredible things through our students and through the work that Jeff and Karen Thomas (our IMB Missionaries) have established. While we were there we did an afternoon Bible club at the home of Edwardo and Alicia. Edwardo and Alicia are new believers in the village where there is no evangelical church and the Thomas family has been discipling them and hosting worship services in their home over the last several months. When we would arrive at their home our team was met by over 40 children who would come listen to Bible stories and participate in a craft activity. It was incredibly obvious that Edwardo and Alicia’s home has become a lighthouse for the gospel in this village. By opening up their home they are allowing their village to hear the good news of Jesus and helping others come to know God’s purpose in salvation. On our last day we had a short worship service where we sang songs in Spanish and English and presented Alicia with a Spanish-English Bible as a sign of gratitude and friendship. With tears rolling down her face she thanked our team for our willingness to come to her village to share Christ with her people and for providing her with her very first Bible. As I walked away from her home I knew that God was going to continue to work in her family and her home to help spread the seeds of the gospel long after we leave, but more importantly we left her a tool in God’s Word that will help her grow and help her village understand that Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life. What a joy it is for me to share those special moments in ministry with our students. I’ll never forget that afternoon in Guatemala and I trust that the students who were with me won’t either. It is these special memories that fuel my desire for more students in our community and our ministry to get more involved and more engaged. I don’t want our students to miss out on not having these special moments. I desperately want their lives to be transformed because they were in the right time and place where they witnessed God’s hand at work. This is why I’m praying that you’ll do all you can to help your student be involved in our ministry this upcoming summer. As you look inside the FLIP this month you’ll notice that we are promoting our summer events and ministries. We are theming this summer as “GREATER SUMMER”. Our intent for this theme is to simply communicate God is greater than all things: greater than us, greater than our hobbies, greater than our ministry, greater than our church. We will focus on this throughout the summer in hopes that our students will understand how we should respond to God, His word, and His mission for our lives. Will this summer be fun? Yes. Will this summer be good for the soul? Absolutely. Will this summer be full of special moments in our ministry that can transform your student’s life? Only if they engage and get plugged in! Will this summer be great? No, it will be GREATER! I hope your student will join us for a GREATER Summer!
