1999 – WISH YOU WERE HERE

 FEAT ST

by Samara Grace Chadwick 2

A filmmaker returns to her hometown to uncover the memories of a wave of suicides that shook her high school in 1999. None of her former classmates have talked about it, until now – although each of them has kept their personal archives from that time. Their memories reveal a far more complex and compelling story than she ever expected. The film is an invitation to move through the silence of grief.

More focused on the act committed than on the needs of those involved, penal justice has certain limitations. The film explores the difficult connection between victims trying to rebuild their lives and perpetrators disposed to taking responsibility. Restorative justice encourages the parties to manage their conflicts themselves, helping them to free themselves from their status. An intimate, emotional film in which the barriers between reality and fiction fade away.

In the summer of 2013, an over 2 500-year-old statue of Apollo is found in the nets of a fisherman in Gaza.
