BRIEF

STRATEGY

In the fall of 2017, the first Generator Workshop was piloted for Buford Highway with Georgia Tech students. Popularly named the “International Corridor,” over 1,000 immigrant-owned business make Buford Highway a destination for a variety of nationalities. Through this course, Generator seeks to develop a wide range of creative ideas for Buford Highway to celebrate its culture, innovation, and adaptation.

Generator partnered with local non-profit, We Love BuHi, to identify a variety of concepts. Students selected a specific idea, developing them through research and class discussion of issues such as equity, implementation strategies, political strategies, and visualization. BRIEF

Generator Workshop: Sweet Auburn Walks will focus on the .4 mile stretch of Hilliard St, beginning at Decatur St and ending at Auburn Ave. Hilliard offers a unique opportunity for creating an enhanced experience of activity, both during the day and at night. The workshop will seek to identify and ideate concepts for creative placemaking along the path. The ultimate goal of these concepts will be to enhance accessibility, apperance, and sociability of the Historic District.

The workshop will take place over a course of 8 weeks. The 8 weeks will be divided up into 4 two-week sessions, allowing for 4 different groups of people to be a part of a grassroots workshop to come up with ideas for Hilliard. Each two-week session will begin with a “walk-shop,” where participants will explore the focus area, ending at a local restaurant to have a meal and dialogue about their findings. Participants will then be asked to bring an idea to be workshoped for the second week.
