During their break they had fun catching up and building lightsabers out of pool noodles in honor of “Star Wars” day. Lunch was served in the rooftop of UCI’s Donald Bren Hall, where all attendees enjoyed a beautiful view on a lovely California spring day.

First, the collegiates learned about the importance of Collegiate Section Transition. The goal of the module was to help them better prepare for their new fiscal year and assure that incoming officers have all the information they need to continue leading their section successfully. Outgoing officers learned the importance of maintaining good communication and supporting their future officers even after graduating.

At the end of the day, the collegiates shared their plans and ideas for the year ahead. It was truly wonderful to bond with our future SWE professionals, hear about what they accomplished in the past year, what they will do to improve themselves as officers and their sections. We are proud of all of them, we wish them an awesome summer, success in their internships or summer courses and we are very excited to see what they will accomplish next! — Lorenia A. Jimenez, FY19 Collegiate Relations Chair

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT — HAUNA KREKEMEYER Hauna is a graduate student researcher for Dr. Jered Haun in the Ph.D. program of UC Irvine's Materials Science and Engineering department. She received her B.S. in NanoEngineering from UC San Diego, and is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering with an emphasis in nanotechnology and cancer imaging research.

She is also a mentor and tutor at the UCI Office of Access and Inclusion for undergraduate engineering students. Students ask her about the graduate school application process, internships, how to handle school/work/ life balance, encouragement navigating their engineering pursuits, and coursework. Giving back to students in knowledge and encouragement as she had received and excelled from the outpouring of wisdom from mentors in lab, class, SWE, and friends was very important to Hauna. Hauna has served SWE OC as Programs Chair, FY19 Bylaws and Programs Chair and FY20 Corporate Relations Chair. She was also involved in the SWE UCSD collegiate section. SWE has taught her a lot about the soft skills necessary to communicate, interact, and partner with professionals. The industry environment can be a bit intimidating. However, her involvement with SWE-OC has and continues to prepare her with the professional mindset. She encourages any young student and professional to link arms with their local professional SWE section! In her free time, Hauna enjoys beach walks, hiking, spending time with friends and family, and volunteering with SWE and church. — Natalie White, FY19 Internal Vice President & Newsletter Chair

GAME NIGHT The ladies of SWE-OC had an amazing time destressing at Game Night! We played Rotten Apples, ate snacks, and drank wine. We also played Left, Right, Center and SWE-OC Internal Vice President Natalie White won $15. Thank you to Krista Miguel and her two cats for welcoming us into their Disney-decorated home! — Sally Soltero, FY19 President
