As a Community Health Centre, we serve the residents of our geographicallydefined service area, which ranges from the Ottawa River to Carling Avenue, and from Island Park Drive to about Lyon Street. If you live in our service area, you can access ALL of our programs and services!

Primary Healthcare Primary Care Services

Walk-In Clinics

Our Centre provides a comprehensive range of health and medical services delivered by physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians and other allied health professionals at both the Eccles and Rosemount branches.

Nurse practitioners provide assessment, treatment and referral, as required. Open to any resident of the Somerset West Community Health Centre service area, including those without an Ontario health card and/or a permanent address. Clinics are located at both the Eccles and Rosemount branches. No appointment necessary, drop in.

To become a client of Primary Care Services, you must live in our service area. Please call 613-238-1220 for more information on becoming a client. After Hours Care When the clinic is closed, we have a physician on-call to help clients of our Primary Care Services with urgent health matters. To contact the on-call physician, call 613-238-1220. For medical emergencies, call 9-1-1.

Couples HIV Testing

Foot Care and Chiropody

HIV testing for men who identify as gay or bisexual and for any men who have sex with men. Protect your partner and yourself and develop a plan to manage HIV risk in your relationship.

Foot and nail care, orthotics, and support and education about proper foot care for any person living in our service area. A chiropodist is also available to provide more complex care if required.

Dental Screening

Rooming House Outreach

Free dental screenings, fluoride varnish applications and dental health information provided on the 2nd Friday of every month. Other services available include Healthy Smiles Ontario enrolment and denture cleaning. All ages welcome!

Health care, mental health support, referrals, and practical assistance for local rooming house tenants in the Somerset West Community Health Centre service area. Outreach provided by a nurse and a community health worker.

Chinese Prenatal Classes

Expecting a baby? Our physicians and nurse practitioners offer friendly, personal care to women with low-risk pregnancies who will deliver at the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital. We accept referrals from local providers and pregnant women can also self-refer.

Seven-week program for expecting parents who speak Mandarin. Information on healthy pregnancy, labour and delivery, newborn care and breastfeeding, and community resources for pre and post-natal care! Offered by a public health nurse four times per year. For everyone in Ottawa.

Newcomer Health Ottawa Newcomer Clinic Medical clinic that provides temporary primary care to Government Assisted Refugees (GARs), privately sponsored refugees, and refugee claimants. Services include medical screening and treatment of urgent medical needs (including short-term follow-up), a TB clinic, women’s health checkups, immunizations and more. Multicultural Health Navigator Program Help navigating the Canadian health system for refugees and immigrants. Our nursing team provides health assessments, counselling, and referrals to community resources to frail and/or isolated seniors (65 years of age or older) in their homes. Services provided in English and French. For any person in the Centre’s service area.

Lung Health

The Somerset West Community Health Centre Lung Health Program provides a range of services for people with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) or asthma. It consists of the following three services that help clients better self-manage their conditions.

Smoking Cessation For people who want to quit smoking! Get up to 26 weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy coupled with individualized smoking cessation counselling. To participate, people must live in the Somerset West Community Health Centre service area.

Community-Based Pulmonary Rehab A 16-week pulmonary rehab program for people with COPD to learn to decrease symptoms and improve their ability to function in daily life! The program consists of exercise, education, and support, and clients are followed by a Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE). For everyone in Ottawa.

Primary Care Asthma Program (PCAP) For anyone with a confirmed diagnosis of asthma or COPD to learn how to better self-manage their condition! Clients are followed by a Registered Respiratory Therapist/Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) to help them learn to identify symptoms, manage medications, and master proper medication device and breathing techniques.
