AGENCY NEWS Swanson Communications Wins PRSA Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation for Outstanding Press Conference Swanson Communications received the coveted 2009 Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for superior performance in the design and execution of an individual public relations tactic within a broader public relations campaign. The agency, along with other winners, was recognized for the award during the 2009 Silver Anvil Awards Evening held June 4 at the Equitable Tower in New York. Swanson Communications received a 2009 Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation in the "Outstanding Press Conferences" category for "Swanson Communications Delivers Dream Press Conference for De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao 'Dream Match' Kick-off at The Statue of Liberty" campaign. The agency organized, planned and executed the first ever press event on Liberty Island that was not a speech by a president or dignitary, which officially announced DE LA HOYA VS PACQUIAO 'DREAM MATCH' held on December 6, 2008 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View.


The press event also kicked-off a six-city media tour to promote what ended up being the biggest boxing event of the year. "We are so excited to be recognized by PRSA and receive the Bronze Anvil for our efforts in planning this once-in-a-lifetime endeavor," said Kelly Swanson, President of Swanson Communications, who has been in the business for over 20 years. "Thanks to my client's vision, we were able to take part in what is surely the most exciting press event I have ever staged in the course of my career."

CLIENT NEWS Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez Rescheduled for September 19 Swanson Communications is thrilled to have been retained as the lead public relations firm for the promotion of Mayweather vs. Marquez "Number One/Numero Uno" which will take place on Saturday, September 19 (Mexican Independence Day and one of the biggest weekends in boxing) at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View. The fight, originally scheduled for July 18, was postponed after Mayweather suffered a rib injury while training. "I am glad to be back," said Mayweather. "Trust me, September 19 is a great weekend for boxing, and all of my fans, of which there are many Mexicans too, can certainly hold on to their hats and sombreros when I get back in to the ring and show them what they have been missing these past 18 months. I will destroy Marquez and reclaim my rightful place as boxing's poundfor-pound king all in one night. Don't miss it." The agency will oversee public relations activities throughout the promotion including fighter media days, national conference calls, satellite media tours, media updates and breaking news releases, all culminating with the fight week final press conference, official weigh-in and of course, fight night itself. In addition to the fight, the agency will handle press relations for the talented and extremely popular Mayweather, including efforts to secure national and international appearances for the star. Mayweather vs. Marquez: "Number One/Numero Uno," is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions in association with Marquez Promotions and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and Southwest Airlines.


Swanson Communications Aids Icelink Watch at Baselworld and JCK Las Vegas Swanson Communications is responsible for public relations, marketing and advertising efforts within North America for the watch and jewelry manufacturer Icelink Watch and their presence at Baselworld, the world's biggest watch and jewelry show held every year in Basel, Switzerland, and JCK Las Vegas. The agency worked closely with Icelink's offices in Los Angeles, California and in Geneva, Switzerland, to execute their public relations campaign, which focused on their new Mystic and 6Timezone Mechanical collections. Swanson Communications developed and designed press materials for both events, scheduled appointments with top media outlets, and worked side-by-side with the client to present the brand to the top fashion critics and publication editors in the world.

EVENT NEWS Swanson Communications Supports Affliction Entertainment's PR Efforts as Affliction M-1 Global's "Trilogy" Nears Affliction Entertainment again asked Swanson Communications to assist in PR efforts for the upcoming Affliction M-1 Global's "Trilogy" pay-per-view extravaganza featuring Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett as the main event set for Saturday, August 1 in Anaheim, California. Affliction Entertainment partners include Donald Trump, chairman and CEO of The Trump Organization, and Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and chairman of HDNet, who are helping promote the show that features what many consider two of the best MMA fighters in the world. Swanson Communications, having previously handled the public relations for Affliction Entertainment's first two sold-out fights in Anaheim, executed the New York kick-off press event, garnering results from the likes of USA Today, ESPN.com, Forbes.com, Bloomberg News, CNBC, New York Post, Newsday and dozens of MMA websites. The agency will assist with PR efforts throughout the remainder of the promotion with a spectacular PPV fight week push.


Swanson Communications Sponsors Recreation Wish List Committee's 7th Annual Golf Tournament Charity Starts At Home- Swanson Communications' President Kelly Swanson has committed to a sponsorship for the 7th Annual Recreation Wish List Committee of Washington's (RWLC) Golf Tournament. The nonprofit RWLC, a private/public partnership with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, benefits kids in the District of Columbia's Southeast neighborhood. Their flagship project is the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center, which combines academics, cultural enrichment, technology and tennis to inspire and educate young people. Swanson, one of the founding members of the board, is looking forward to another great day of fun and funds. "This year's tournament will focus on raising awareness for healthy living for children east of the river," said Swanson. "The kids in that area need our support to learn better eating habits in order to help reduce childhood obesity and improve their overall energy levels." Miscellaneous News Congratulations Stephanie! Congratulations to our friend Stephanie Heller at the MGM/Mirage on her new position as PR Manager for the company's Entertainment and Nightlife venues. It has been a pleasure to work with her over the years, but growth is good and it is always great to see a woman rise among corporate ranks. We will miss her presence and wish her the best in her new position.
