JOMSOM – MUKTINATH TREK About the tour: We travel to the lush green Pokhara Valley. From here we take a short flight to Jomsom, our starting point of the trek to Muktinath. Jomsom has an attractive backdrop of the towering peaks of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. From here we trek via Kagbeni to Muktinath, a high altitude pilgrim site and a sacred place for Hindus as well as Buddhists. It is at an altitude of 3710m and is situated at the base of Thorung La. The most prominent shrine is a Vishnu temple where there are 108 shower spouts coming from the glacier on the back wall of the shrine. Total Duration: 07 nights / 08 days (Ex Kathmandu)

ITINERARY Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, meet our representative, assist and transfer to the hotel. At the hotel’s lobby welcome refreshments will be served and room check in assistance provided. Shortly afterwards there will be a tour briefing at the hotel’s lobby. Overnight at hotel. (B…) Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (5 ~ 6 hrs) After breakfast, start 5 ~ 6 hours (200kms.) scenic drive to Pokhara via Prithvi Highway. En route lunch at a convenient resort or hotel. Pokhara, which is situated 200 kms west from Kathmandu, is an enchanting city nestled in the tranquil valley (827m) on the laps of the mighty Annapurna Himalayan Range. With its beautiful lakes, lush green surroundings and fantastic views of the Annapurna range including the Fish Tail Mountain, it is considered one of nature’s finest gifts to Nepal. Upon arrival in Pokhara, check in hotel for refreshment. Rest of the time is free for leisure activities or you can feel free to stroll around the colorful Lakeside bazaar at your own. Overnight at hotel. (B…) Day 03: Fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2800m / 9187ft; 3 ~ 4hrs) Early morning transfer to the Pokhara airport for the 25 minutes flight to Jomsom. Day 04: Trek to Muktinath (3800m / 12468ft; 4 hrs) After breakfast, start trek to Muktinath. Muktinath, the place of 108 fountains with the sacred temples of Muktinath is just below Thorung La in a grove of trees. Every tree is laden with prayer flags, and here you could build your own chorten. Here, in the early 19th century the Hindus consecrated a Vishnu temple and named it Muktinath – Lord of Liberation and redemption. Against a backdrop of incredible starkness you can sit and stare to the snow covered range of Himalayas that includes Mount Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri Himal, Damador Himal Range and other Annapurna Ranges or the Tibetan plateau to the north. Overnight at Muktinath. (B, L, D…) Day 05: Trek to Jomsom via Jharkot (2750m / 9023ft; 5 hrs) After breakfast, trek back down to Jomsom. Overnight at Jomsom. (B, L, D…) Day 06: Fly back to Pokhara – 30 minutes and Sightseeing tour of Pokhara Valley After breakfast, fly back to Pokhara. Upon arrival, meet our representative, assist and transfer to hotel for refreshment. After lunch, in the afternoon, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Pokhara City, which includes the Davis Falls, the Seti Gorge, the Bindabashini Temple and the Tibetan Refugee Camp. Sunset boat rides at Phewa Lake.Overnight at hotel. (B…) Day 07: Drive back to Kathmandu (5 ~ 6 hrs) After breakfast, get in to a waiting vehicle and start 5 ~ 6 hours scenic drive to Kathmandu via Prithvi Highway. En route stop at a convenient resort or hotel for lunch. Upon arrival, check in hotel for refreshments. Free afternoon for last minute shopping and packing. Overnight at hotel. We request you to please read all the information given herewith carefully. ACCOMMODATION: Deluxe Package: Includes stay in 4 to 5 star hotels in Kathmandu. Standard Package: Includes stay in 3 star hotels in Kathmandu. On the trek: The stay would be in teahouses or small lodges. Some of the lodges are very basic with just small rooms and common toilets. The toilets are located outside the lodge & are not very clean. However the food & water is clean and hygienic. A few places have lodges have good rooms with attached toilets. FOOD: Breakfast: Eggs, bread, butter, jam, Pancakes, cornflakes, porridge, tea, coffee Lunch: During trek, hot lunch on the way – soup, noodles, fried rice, sandwiches, tea, and coffee High Tea: Dry snacks, tea, and coffee. Dinner: soup, rice, dal, vegetable. ON THE TREK: Equipment: Sleeping bags will be provided on a returnable basis. Luggage & Porters: • •

You will need to carry your personal light backpack. Please ensure that your rucksack has sturdy straps. Porters / Mules will carry all camping equipment.

Tour Escort: For smaller group size our tour escorts are locals with good experience in leading trekking & other trips. Most of these escorts are good at communicating in English. For group size of 12 & above, another equally experienced tour escort accompanies the group. LAND ARRANGEMENT: All the travel in Nepal in small vehicles/coach depending on the group size. We have only 4 passengers per vehicle, making the journey more comfortable. Please note that the breakdown of vehicles is expected due to bad road conditions. The jeep drivers are good mechanics & generally fix up the problem within few minutes. There may be delays due to such situations. AIR & RAIL TRAVEL: Usually the fare, for International / Domestic flights and rail are excluded in our tour cost. ‘Countryside’ can make these travel arrangements at actual cost plus a nominal service charge of Rs.150 per person per sector for air bookings & Rs.100 for rail bookings per person per booking. MEDICAL & FIRST AID: This tour takes us through remote region where professional medical help may not be available. It would be advisable to speak to your group escort in case of any health problems that you may face on the tour. Any medical expenses incurred for a group member will have to be borne by that member.

INSURANCE: Any kind of insurance on luggage, accident, life or other allied matters is not provided for by “COUNTRYSIDE OUTDOOR PROGRAMMES Pvt. Ltd.” Members coming on our trips will have to make their own arrangements for the same. BOOKING: • • • •

The tour booking will be confirmed only upon receipt of: Non Refundable amount of 20% of tour cost, in addition to the charges such as air, rail fares, etc along with completed personal information form. 50% of the tour cost to be paid 45 days before date of departure & Balance 30% of the tour cost to be paid 15 days prior to the departure. The trip will be considered confirm only if there is no default in the above payment procedure.

‘Countryside’ reserves the right to cancel a tour if the minimum numbers of persons as specified, do not book on the tour. ‘Countryside’ reserves the right to refuse or cancel any booking if we consider it necessary. In such cases, we shall refund all the money that you have paid. If cancellation or alteration by COUNTRYSIDE OUTDOOR PROGRAMMES PVT. LTD. is caused by events including war or threat of war, strikes, civil strife, natural disaster, technical or political difficulties affecting air or ground transport, or events amounting to force majeure, this will naturally limit our liability. If such events occur before the departure date, we will do our best to make alternative arrangements.

Important Travel Information for Nepal: Nepal, the Himalayan Kingdom cannot be described in a few words. It is known as a unique natural & cultural destination. Its high mountains & lush green valleys are ideal places for trekkers in the world. Eight out of fourteen tallest peaks in the world are in Nepal and at the same time it is a beautiful treasure house of ancient art and culture. Time: Nepal local time is GMT + 05:45 hrs or Indian standard time + 15 mins. Currency: Approximate exchange rate are 1 $ = 70 Nepal. 1INR= 1.6 NC One can exchange currency in Nepal. Business hours: 10:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs is the normal office hours on all working days. On Saturdays the offices are closed. Visa & Documentation: The passport should be valid for minimum 6 months after the completion of the trip. Visa is issued on arrival in Nepal.
