THE SWACU NEWSLETTER SPRING 2021 SUMMER 2021 It seems like things are starting to return to “normal” after 15 months of uncertainty, grief, loss, and sadness in our personal and business lives. You are important to SWACU, and we are happy to begin moving past the hardships of the pandemic for our staff and our members. It feels great to see people traveling again, experiencing family gatherings, and finding joy where there might not have been a year ago. At SWACU, we are counting our blessings and hope you are finding ways to do the same. In June we celebrated the 50th birthday of our main sponsor company Southwest Airlines. This was an exciting time for them as just one year ago they experienced some of the worst days for the airline industry ever. Now they are poised for an amazing comeback and, as I experienced personally on a recent trip to our Houston Branch, the planes are full again. Congrats Southwest Airlines!! In more good news, SWACU is moving full steam ahead on the implementation of our new CORE Processor. Our staff is working hard to make sure every detail is evaluated and handled seamlessly in our new system. In the days ahead, we will begin to share more detailed information on dates for the transition to the new system, areas that will directly affect our members and items that might look different for you. Stay Tuned. If you are ready to have some fun this summer and fall, do not forget we dropped all our loan rates! Let us finance your vacation, new auto/ boat/RV, home purchase or tuition this fall.

MORE THAN JUST WE ARE...

STRENGTH | WELLNESS | ADVENTURE | CARE | UNITY Whether your travels take you across town or across the world, we want to come along! Don’t forget to set up alerts on your mobile app, let us know if you’re traveling far, and keep an eye on your account through SWACU Mobile Banking. We are here to help make your next adventure memorable!

HERE IS A CHECKLIST TO MAKE YOUR SUMMER TRIP ONE TO REMEMBER Traveling with your family can be very exciting and stressful all at the same time! We’ve put together a few tips and tricks to make your summer vacation a little less expensive and added in a little more time with the family.

SAVE GAS AND TIME Most people do their traveling on weekends, if you can travel during the week, you can spend less time sitting in traffic and cut down on fuel too. Get there quicker for less!

ACTIVITY PACKS FOR KIDS Are we there yet?! Put together activity bags with a fun activity and snack to give to your kiddos at random times. This gives them something fun to look forward to during the trip, saves money at gas station stops, and keeps them busy and off screens.

SAVE ON FOOD Eating out with an entire family gets expensive very quickly, putting together a fun themed meal plan for your vacation can be fun and save you a lot of money. Spend the money on adventures instead of eating.

MAKE THE DRIVE AND ENJOY THE SITES If flying is not in the budget, pack up the car and visit the sites along the way! Look for national parks, landmarks, tourist attractions and make the journey part of the vacation. This also allows fun leg stretching opportunities!

KEEP YOUR MONEY SAFE

PUZZLES FOR THE WIN

Always travel with a little cash in case you run across an emergency. It’s also good to consider using your SWACU Credit Card for the added layer of protection while taking new adventures!

Set out a puzzle to be completed during downtime. This encourages family time and working together to complete a fun task.

ZIP-LOCKED PACKING Packing children and keeping outfits together during travel is anxiety inducing for some. When you pack, put outfits together with socks and underwear or diapers and kids can take on their dressing without mixing stripes and plaid.

CAMP OUT While this may not be for some, loading up the RV with games, food, clothes, and your family can make memories that will last a lifetime. Camping is also cheaper than staying in hotels and provides opportunities for your children to make friends with the neighbors. Check out swacu.org/promos for our current promotion on R.V.s!

ADVENTURES WITH SWACU PHOTO CONTEST Snap a photo on your adventures and enter to win a $100 gift card! To enter and for complete details, visit swacu. org/adventures by August 31st.

AVIATION APPRECIATION DAY – AUGUST 19TH

Aviation Appreciation Day is landing once again! We want to let you know how much we appreciate your dedication to safety, professionalism, fun, and security in the air. National Aviation Day, also known as Wright Brothers Day, marks the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday on August 19th, 1871 and became a holiday in 1939 by the proclamation of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. This year marks 117 years of flight as the Wright Brothers took flight on December 17, 1903 to a whopping 120 feet in the air.
