Cheboygan is known as the Gateway to the Waterways. Located on the picturesque Straits of Mackinac, it is gateway to the famous Inland Waterway which encompasses three rivers and three lakes and offers 42 miles of boating pleasure. Cheboygan is also home to trailheads for the North Central State Trail, built on former railway lines. Outdoor activities abound in the Cheboygan area: fishing, hunting, skiing and kayaking top the list. Downtown’s jewel is the Cheboygan Opera House, its cultural and performance center. Both casual and fine dining establishments, shops, retail outlets can be found in and around Cheboygan. The area offers commercial opportunities, located as it is at the intersection of two major highways (U.S. 23 and M-27) and close to I-75. Cheboygan has a deep water port with access through the Great Lakes to the St. Lawrence Seaway.
