CHARLEVOIX

CHARLEVOIX By Anne Kelly

Charlevoix, nestled between Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix, is the type of community that epitomizes the image of what we imagine when we think “beautiful small towns up north. Although there are several industries within its boundaries, Charlevoix draws its life blood from tourism. Its scenic yacht harbor is picture perfect and attracts boaters to the area. The downtown area is home to many fine shops and restaurants and both dining and lodging can be found close to town and within walking distance or a short drive. Charlevoix boasts three major beaches, excellent golf courses and a bike trail that continues along Lake Michigan. It has a state of the art library, reputed hospital, updated movie theater, an elementary and middle/high school, a ski hill and an arts center. Castle Farms provides a grand venue for weddings and events. The Charlevoix summer communities of the Chicago Club and the Belvedere Club add an historical element, harkening back to the late 1800s when trains brought families to their summer homes up north. Charlevoix is an excellent place to visit for a while or to raise a family all year long.
