What Is Yelp? Yelp is called an online city guide, but what makes it more than just a collection of listings and addresses is the personal reviews by real people who have used the service. It is an online guide to doing just about anything you want broken down by specific states and cities. You can easily find places of interest, read reviews from others who have used the service previously and get a good impression of the place before you go. Does It Cost Money? Yelp is free to use, and there are advertising features that require a fee to utilize. However, if you're looking to find the best restaurant, the most responsive, friendly and helpful printing company (like ours!), you can't go wrong by looking in Yelp! If you've never heard of Yelp!, today is your lucky day. - Local people looking for things to do in the city will find this service invaluable. - Real people looking for real services will be thrilled with the user-friendly interface that Yelp offers. Writing A Review Now that you know what Yelp is, let's look at how to write an effective review. When reviewing someone's business, be mindful of any mitigating circumstances surrounding your experience of the business. For instance, if you arrive on a day where two people have called out sick, and it's a three person shop, don't complain about lack of attention to you and your job. If you show up more than once and the shop is perpetually running two people short, that's something that you might want to comment on. Positive Reviews If you are giving a positive review, note the day, date and time you experienced service with the shop. If possible, get the person's name that waited on you especially if that person went above and beyond standard service delivered by that company. Trust me; you'll know when that happens. Talk about your feelings when receiving the service from that store or service. Giving feedback should afford the recipient the view from the customer's perspective (that's you). Many times when people have been in the customer service industry for a long time, they may forget what it's like to

be a customer. Negative Reviews If you give negative reviews, make sure that you talk about the circumstance in which the negative experience occurred. This gives a clear representation of what happened and how you came to view the experience as negative. Take into account any mitigating circumstances that may have occurred. Also, with Yelp, be ready for the business owner to contact you, and if you find the interaction/explanation satisfactory, you might consider updating your review. Contact from The Business Owner For instance, if you feel that a customer service representative is yelling at you, and you don't know why, you may write a review to that effect. Try to get the name of the CSR so that you can give an accurate accounting of the events. If, after writing your review, the business owner gets in touch with you and relates that particular customer rep has a slight hearing problem, you may consider amending your review to reflect that new information. Amending Your Review You may find out that the employee was let go due to similar actions, and you can state that the owner related that the situation you experienced was resolved. While there's no pressure on your to do this, it's just something to consider if you've had a negative experience at a shop and there was satisfactory follow-up involved. Yelp is one of those interactive communities where your voice can be heard on experiences you've had at restaurants, stores and service organizations around the city of Philadelphia or beyond. As you interact on a business and personal level, you'll have the opportunity to review those organizations that have left you with a really up feeling or just plain pissed you off.
