Swabri Mohammed a.k.a Redsan is undoubtedly the unopposed king of the Kenyan dancehall scene and to an extent in East Africa. He entered the music scene after winning the Star Search competition at the Carnivore Restaurant, Nairobi in 1998. He was one of Ogopa Deejays pioneer artistes and also teamed up with other East African acts such as Chameleone and Bebe Cool to form the East African Bashment Crew, a dancehall outfit. His breakthrough came in the year 2003 with the release of his debut album the Seasons of the San, which churned out nine hits! On Southwest Records, he released his second album Red in 2004 and his third studio album, Pioneer was released in 2006. This is a plus for a dancehall artiste who rarely produce studio albums biennially instead preferring to sing along to riddim beats. Some of his hit songs include Mikono Juu, Chicken, Touch, Ma Babie, Malaika, Apatakwe, Step on it, Malaika, Julie amongst others. After many hit songs, he left Ogopa to form his own label called Dutty Sounds. The label focuses on dancehall, hip hop and R&B musicians. On a much lower note Redsan's career has been marred by various feuds, especially with another premier Kenya musician, CMB Prezzo a Kenyan Hip-hop artiste but which was resolved amicably though between the two. Currently he is being produced by Monalisa, an outfit based in Miami, USA. He has won numerous awards such as Kisima and Chaguo La Teeniez awards. With great reviews from contemporary Jamaican artists such as Shaggy, Sean Paul this fella has made Kenya proud and I can only wish him the best as he pursues future endeavours. In December 2009 he released another studio album titled Versatility under the Dutty Sounds Records, Monalisa Entertainment and Miami Vibe labels. "The album, like it's name describes the diversity in the genres of music and artistes featured in it" is how Redsan described the album. The album boasts of collaborations with music industry heavy weights like Brick and Lace, AY, Collo, Shinde of Tattu and Kiss 100 presenter Sanaipei Tande." In October 2010 Kenyan Ragga maestro Redsan will be relaunching his Versatility album alongside American diva Keri Hilson. This comes after launching the same album last December at Carnivore grounds (where he was) flanked by Jamaican duo Brick and Lace. Ila wewe is a track off the Versatility album which hit the top of the charts in early 2011 and its video got nominations in some musical awards for video of the year.
