Amanda, valedictorian of KDU College Class of 2009, is living her dreams as a professional bartender now. She recently became the first Malaysian girl and the only other lady out of 24 finalists, to compete at the Diageo Reserve World Class Finals 2010 held in Athens, a year long global challenge which saw 9,000 bartenders from around the globe shaking, stirring and pouring their way through the national heats. This spunky lass, whose passion for the beverage industry was ignited when she first worked part-time as a barista, knew what she wanted to do in life and pursued it endlessly, amidst concerns from family and friends over her career choice. .Pursuing this dream is an upstream swim. Not one to take “No” for an answer, Amanda shared, “I had to prove myself. That meant standing up for what I believed in,” she said. “That’s why the Diageo Reserve World Class Competition means a lot to me, because it proves that bartending is a real job, at many professional levels. It took a lot of perseverance, focus and hard work to reach this stage. But it has been a tremendous achievement so far, and I am so very excited about what lies ahead!”
