Communications Oskaloosa may be located in the rural heartland of Iowa, but its residents know what’s going on locally, nationally and around the world. The news travels fast in Oskaloosa through the printed word, the airwaves and in cyberspace. The city’s 11,600 residents rely on a variety of media to deliver the news they need — newspaper, radio, television and a news blog.

KBOE broadcasts late-breaking news, severe weather updates, and programs of local interest including Oskaloosa High School and William Penn University sporting events. Now you can listen live to area sporting events on the Web at www.kboeradio.com. KBOE is also an Iowa Hawkeye affiliate, and an MRN affiliate with broadcasts of all NASCAR races. KBOE’s location on the dial is 740 AM and 104.9 FM.

The Oskaloosa Herald The Oskaloosa Herald has been Mahaska County’s local newspaper since 1850. Today, the Herald is a five-day, Monday through Friday, daily newspaper located at 1901 A Ave. W. The Herald also publishes the weekly Oskaloosa Shopper, bringing savings to area shoppers. It provides direct mail and offers commercial print capabilities for clients.

Ottumwa Radio Ottumwa Radio is a radio broadcast group operating 4 stations with our main offices at 416 E. Main in Ottumwa. KKSI FM (101.5 Classic Rock Kiss FM), is a 50,000 watt station broadcasting to a 50 – 60 mile radius of our tower site near Eddyville Iowa.

The Herald is a color publication with a fully electronic pagination newsroom. The Herald’s coverage area is primarily Mahaska County, but as a member of the Associated Press, the paper has access to state, national and international news. In October of 1990, KBOE — FM was granted a license by the Federal Communications Commission to upgrade its power from 3,000 Watts to the current 50,000 Watts, providing the station with an extended coverage area. KBOE — AM continues to broadcast with 250 Watts of power since Nov. 15, 1950, when the station first hit the airwaves.

Kiss FM offers a very loyal audience aged 25 to 54, enjoying the best in Classic Rock music with News, Sports and Weather every hour, plus The Big Show with John Boy and Billy Monday through Saturday 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. KRKN FM (New Country 104.3) plays current country hits with 25,000 watts of people pleasing power. KRKN reaches men and women within a 45 – 55 mile radius of the tower near Floris, Iowa. 1240 KBIZ AM, “Your News and Information Leader,” has been broadcasting News, Sports, Weather, Farm and Financial related shows and Christian programming to Southeast Iowa since 1947. You can hear shows from Clark Howard, Dave Ramsey, and Lou Dobbs plus local programming, like the Mid Morning Magazine every weekday morning, as well as local Sports and Concerts. 92.7 KTWA FM, Today’s Hits and Yesterdays Favorites, broadcasts from a 50,000 watt tower in of Ottumwa. This Adult Contemporary station reaches men and women aged 18 – 54. All four stations stream their signal live online!
