JASON GILLESPIE IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE 2020 SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. AFTER A SEASON THAT I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS ‘MISSED OPPORTUNITIES’, WE GO INTO 2020 WITH A LOT OF OPTIMISM. Our members and supporters will note that we have a number of changes to our squad and that 2020 as a whole is destined to be a season like no other in county cricket. As a coaching staff, we are excited with our new arrivals at the club so I would like to welcome Travis Head, Ravi Bopara, Mitch Claydon and Stuart Meaker to Sussex. These guys will add value to our teams on the ground and also be fantastic for our dressing room environment. As experienced players, I look forward to the opportunity for them to share their knowledge with their teammates and us coaches so that we can all learn and improve. I want to also welcome Tom Clark to the professional staff. A young left-handed batsman, he got an opportunity late last season in the County Championship side. He has come through the Sussex pathway and we all hope he embraces and enjoys the experiences this season. I mentioned that it will be a season like no other in county cricket. For a start there is a new competition, The Hundred, which will be played a bit later in the summer. There has been a lot of differing opinions about The Hundred, but we should be very proud that so many Sussex players are thought of so highly and were in demand at draft.
