Halifax Public Bathouse The historic bathhouses were used as places to socialize, to interact with fellow bathers and enrich one’s social development. Over the years bathing have become a private experience done in small corner of washrooms. The new Halifax Public Bathhouse will bring both the social and private aspects of the bathing experience together and reintroduce the older traditions in the contemporary urban city life of Halifax. The public city life surrounding the site competes directly with the privacy of a typical bathing experience. This inspired the building design to capture the cultural and personal bathing experiences framed by the sensations of the body. The new Halifax Public Bathhouse is a symbol of cleanliness and shelter for the people of Halifax. This bathhouse has moments to be alone or together, to be hot or cold, to be in complete darkness or to bask in the light. Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
