access and entrances - ground floor The main entrance is located at the south east side of the housing complex along Beadon Road, characterised by a double height space to enhance the visibility and legibility from Lyric Square. The entrance to the second core is located in between the retails units, where a double storey frame creates the base element for the building which mitigates the transition between the civic buildings and the residential blocks. The three entrances along Glenthorne Road are located between the mansion blocks. A projecting metal canopy in conjunction with recessed lights and an enlargement in the public path enhance legibility and presence along the footpath. The building along Leamore Street presents individual entrances to the duplex homes at the ground floor through private gardens, while the entrance to the central core is characterised by a metal canopy sitting above an enlargement of the public path and incorporating a recessed light system in the outdoor space. This forms a hierarchy of entrances from west to east, from the larger more public entrance on Beadon Road to the private front doors along Leamore Street.

The proposals are to create a world class gallery/sales facility that maintains the profile of Bonhams and Bond Street at the top international standard. Working within the constraints of the existing site, the scheme is phased to maintain Bonhams operations throughout the demolition and construction process. The strategic architectural response to the site has been informed by the desire to retain elements of the existing architecture that are of merit and do not unduly compromise new requirements.

The high-profile refurbishment of Bonhams which creates a world-class home for the historic auction house through a new-build extension with salerooms, galleries and offices.

Shaftesbury Avenue 75 -79 Soho, London, United Kingdom

2012

The site is located in the heart of London’s culturally rich west end location which offers many distinctive and diverse characteristics. The strategy proposes a refurbishment of the (100,000sqft) 1980’s office building which includes the retained the facade of 75 Shaftesbury Avenue. The existing 5 floors of office accommodation will be re-cored, the atrium size will be optimised to improve the quality of the office accommodation. The existing 6th floor plant room is refurbished to provide a new floor of office accommodation with panoramic views of London. At ground level the retail configuration is optimised and openings remodelled with full height glazing to promote pedestrian interaction on both Shaftesbury Avenue and Romilly Street. The main office entrance is relocated to a central location in the Shaftesbury Avenue facade improving its street presence and legibility. I have been working on the project at RIBA Stage C. Produced planning application drawings. Assisted with presentation material for client workshops.

Competition “Replacement of buildings Muggenbühl” Redingstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland

2010

The new housing project Muggenbühl adopts the existing morphology and floating exterior spaces in a new interpretation. The new lager cubature absorbs the scale of the quarter and consequently a balanced relation between volume and open space can be achieved. Four buildings define three different outdoor venues with divers qualities (a central public space, a playground and a quiet flower field). Each building inhabits twenty flats. The structural system is clear and simple, with an inner massive core made of recycled reinforced concrete. The enclosure is made of a self-supporting light timber construction. Also the loggias will be built out of wood. All the rooms in the flats are directly accessible through a central entrance area, which can also inhabit activities such as playing or playing music. The living-dining areas in the various flats are orientated to different directions. Therefore all the flats benefit from the different panoramic views, and also from the different solar radiation during the day. In the upper floors the balconies all have removable windbreak glazing, which makes the utilisation of the balconies attractive even in spring and autumn. In wintertime the glazed balconies act as climatically buffer, which contributes to the energy efficiency. In every building there will be an building services system, which regulates ventilation, a heat pump and a solar thermal system. Therefore the projected building not only will be very sustainable, but it will also obtain the «MINERGIE-P®» Label. This is a swiss label for very sustainable buildings. The Site is located near the train station of Hinwil. The existing residential building will be gently renovated and a new building will be added. The construction standard of the existing building will be adapted to today’s needs. All four apartments will have spacious balconies. The location of the new apartment building creates a spacious courtyard between the old and new. The courtyard is designed as a green area and remains car-free. The neighbouring buildings and the existing landscape influence the shape of the new building. Therefore it fits quite naturally into the environment. The new building contains four flats, which each include three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a generous living and dining area as well as a open kitchen. The living and the dinning areas each have two loggias, which orientate to southeast and southwest. This ensures not only plenty of sunshine and attractive views from the private areas, but also a diverse use of these areas. The new building will be build in «MINERGIE-P® Standard». Der neue Hof

Multi - Family Residence Sunnengartenstrasse

S w i t z e r l a n d 2 0 0 7 - 2 0 0 9 The new building with eleven flats is located in the historical centre of Richterswil, which is located at the Zurich Lake and replaces an existing residential building. The stacked building volumes react to the form of the site and integrate the morphological structure of the village. The mandatory gabled roof also supports the visual integration. To increase the housing diversity in town and meet different needs of singles, couples and families, the flats on the various floors differ in size. The top floors contain two maisonettes apartments. The living and dining areas, as well as the loggias are each arranged in the corners of the building. Consequently the private areas are not only very attractive and sunny, but also offer attractive and wide views. The ground floor contains the garage with ten parking places, eleven cellars for the inhabitants, and even an air-raid shelter. Also all constructing regulations for the handicapped were meet. The house was build with low energy emission according to ÂŤMingerieÂť standards. This project includes a controlled ventilation system, solar panels and a device for harnessing geothermic heat.

Departement building for the University of Zurich Prof. Adrian Meyer

Diplomsemester 2006

The task was not only to design a representative department building, but also to design a building that would fit into the line of the main buildings of the ETH and the University of Zurich. I suggested as a department building in a strong L-shaped construction at the end of the ÂŤSchanzenhĂźgelÂť as a counterbalance to the university, which does not act to dominant but rather respects the height and scale of the university. The individual floors meander around three courtyards, allowing the institutions to individually adapt to the different environments. The corridor changes from an outer side to the other, resulting in various perspectives and views for the visitors and users of the building. Outside there are two types of facades, which reveal where the utilisation and circulation zones are. A unity is formed by the continuous divisions and proportions and with similar tectonics. Simply by jumping forward and backward the floors and the various types of windows already set up a playfulness and tension.

New Monte Rosa Hut SAC

ETH and SAC 2003-2009 ETH Zurich and the Swiss Alpine Club SAC developed the concept of the new Monte Rosa hut. The lodge unites pioneering new technologies in design, calculation and production of buildings on an exemplary display- with the aim to realize excellent and innovative architectural design. Situated within this pristine and spectacular scenery, nestled between Gorner border and Monte Rosa glacier, this project sets a milestone for the highaltitude construction. Seen from the outside, the new Monte Rosa hut, with its shimmering metallic outer skin looks like a rock-crystal. Nevertheless, it conveys the impression of a homely protecting house. In the inside, the used timber spreads an exciting dialogue between modernity, tradition and attraction. The wooden construction of the new hut is in the dining room on the ground floor very well visible. The internal development on the scale cascade staircase opens spectacular views to the guests. The vast landscape is staged by the cascade stairs- the visitors experience continuous panoramic impressions from the dining room to the top floor. In contrast, the sleeping rooms remind the guests of retreat and security. - An excerpt of “archicentral.com�


New Monte Rosa Hut SAC

Prof. Deplazes 6. Semester 2004 Due to the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the ETH Zurich a studio was created to design and realize the new Monte Rosa Skiing Hut near Zermatt, Switzerland. During two semesters the students developed various designs for the new hut. For further processing the reminiscent of a rock crystal project was selected and the best ideas of some of the other projects were integrated. From my project the studio adopted the construction of the façade and the idea of using the old hut during construction period as accommodation. Furthermore my semester project is a settlement of modular composed cabin-units organized around a central stony site, which is generated out of the demolition of the old skiing hut. The industrial made and highly technological aluminium Modules are completely furnished before they are transported by helicopter up into the Mountain to assembly platforms. There the different modules are joined together. Each unit has their own energy system which functions autonomously. Published in 2010 “Neue Monte Rosa Hütte”, GTA ETH Zürich (ed.)
