welcome to SURVIVAL INFRASTRUCTURES

We are excited to spend the day together with all of you! This booklet includes the most important information about the day. If you have any other questions, we invite you to come by the welcome desk at the entrance.

accessibility & safety

Safe(r) space: We strive to create an environment in which we treat each other with care. At the entrance you can find our community guidelines, pleace have a look! If you have any concerns, you witness or experience any form of harm we encourage you to reach out to us. You can always come up to the moderator of a given session or approach the welcome desk to talk to one of the confidential care persons of our team.

The space: Except for the bathroom, all rooms are wheelchair accessible. The bathroom is only accessible through a staircase. We are very sorry that a wheelchair accessible bathroom on the square usually used by visitors of Gemaal op Zuid is under construction during the event. We are working to organise access to a wheelchair accessible bathroom nearby, but sadly cannot guarantee this at the time of printing this booklet.

Illness & Covid19: As a self-organised grassroots event, we depend on all of us to take collective responsibility for the health and safety especially of those with auto-immune disease and other chronic illnesses. If you don’t feel well or show any Covid and flue related symptoms please stay at home to not put others at risk.

Language: This event will take place in Dutch and English. In the schedule you can see the main language of each session. Due to the language skills of the speakers this year, most sessions will be in English. However, most of the times it will be possible to share questions and contributions in Dutch. If you are in need of translation for a specific session, please come by the welcome desk and we will do our best to arrange someone to translate for you. Are there concepts or words being used that you don’t understand, for instance because they are jargon or ‘incrowd’? Please ask for explanation!

sessions

THE KITCHEN AS CONTAINER

with Het Rode Keukentje, Homesick Restaurant and Wijkcoöperatie

MEET YOUR LOCAL SQUATTERS! INTERACTIVE Q&A

with Catu, Buurtoren, Frieda, Petteflet, DHZ  English, Dutch questions welcome during Q&A

A panel talk with some local squatters in Rotterdam from different spaces. They will be casually sharing their stories together on how they got into squatting, how they want to help build up their local communities, and what they’re up to now. This will be followed by an open Q&A for the audience to ask questions and share experiences so that we can all connect in our mutual struggles for total liberation.

ANARCHIST FESTIVALS & DECENTRALISED LEARNING

with 2.Dh5 & Pinksterlanddagen

English, Dutch questions welcome during Q&A

How can our organising change and adapt to support the needs of the movements that we make space for, as

political urgencies change throughout the years? How can we encourage generative dialogue between different approaches and groups, to find ways to strengthen our many struggles? What conversations are needed to combat apathy and stagnation in our movements? We would like to invite anyone involved in organizing events, fundraisers, workshops, vokus, etc. to come and discuss our practices, worries, questions, and hopes together.

POST-CIV AND LOCAL ECOLOGIES

with VMO Distro English

An interactive talk with the VMO Distro on social and nonhuman prepping – the leftist alternative to right-winged individualist prepping. Here we will focus on how we can build survival together in our communities, and be reactive in our politics to deal directly with our local ecologies in the context of climate collapse and civilisation, and worsening authoritarianism around the world. This will be an interactive non-hierarchical talk where people are free to share their thoughts. We can skill-share and think together about how to prepare socially today in Rotterdam and help each other out once the global empires and civilizations start reacting to the strain of ecological pressure.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

van woord naar daad, en van visie naar kracht en lokale macht

with Mustapha Eaisaouiyen & Eva van Breugel Dutch, English possible if a lot of participants don’t understand Dutch

From words to action, and from vision to strength and local power. We’ll discuss building local communities with practical examples from the Tweebosbuurt, the Wijkbond, the Afrikaanderwijk Wijkcoöperatie, and De Beweging010. We want to build together to strengthen our community organizing skills.

COMMUNITY SELF DEFENCE

with Queer Bash Back

English

What happens when our own communities and political spaces, that are meant to be safe, are under attack? How do we keep each other safe? In this session, we invite comrades to think about how to protect each other when the spaces that we organize in are increasingly more and more under attack. Together, we’ll

explore how self-defense can become a practice of care and survival.

The session will include some physical exercises and a discussion on strength as care and martial arts by Queer Bash Back, a weekly selforganized physical training for collective defense hosted at Catu, seeking to grow into a variety of sessions and disciplines

RADICAL LEARNING

with Reading Counterpower & The People’s Sunday School (Rotterdam Front for Liberation)  English, Dutch questions welcome

Following the teachings of Amilcar Cabral and other revolutionaries, the People’s Sunday School (hosted by Rotterdam Front for Liberation) together with Reading Counterpower will host a session on the importance of militant education, as a committed and conscious anticolonial and anti-imperialist educational process, that combines theory and practice rooted in the concrete conditions of the people and their land.

DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURES

with Sofia from Varia  English

What do we do when our day to day digital platforms are complicit in genocide? How do we engage with Instagram when Meta is involved in the destruction of our planet?

Questions like these can be daunting and leaving us not sure about how to divest from these platforms—but it doesn’t have to be. Sofia will facilitate a session in which we explore the possibilities of why thinking about this is important, how to navigate digital infrastructures and how to engage with and find other digital infrastructures that aren’t build on destruction.

HOW DO WE MAKE HEALTHCARE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE?

Panel talk with Santi & Kari from the Garage School of Medicine, Phillip Morris from the Street medics, and Juliette from De gezondheidszaak  English, Dutch questions welcome

How do we make healthcare available to everyone? What other healthcare systems exist? How did we manage this in the past? What are the conditions of what makes health possible? How can you access healthcare if you don’t have the right documentation? What are the psychological consequences of not being able to access good care? What can we do if healthcare as we know it is no longer available to us? How can we create better care for ourselves, and our community?

BPW Rotterdam and AGS (Antigentrification School) invite you to a housing contract reading session. Learn how to read your housing contract and understand how to claim your rights as a tenant. Do I have a legal contract? Do I have rental protection? Do I pay too much rent? Is my landlord a real person? To answer these and other questions, bring a copy of your housing contract (in Dutch or English) to our reading session where we will present the ABCs of a housing contract, decipher together what are your rights and strategize on ways to claim them!

We also set up a little office for the day where you can visit us for a consultation.

SOAP BOX

At the Soap Box various initiatives will get the floor to introduce themselves in few minutes. They will briefly present their goals and strategy, what they need to grow and what they can offer to other groups.

Do you want to present an initiative that you are part of? Sign up at the welcome desk, there might still be a spot for you!

Anti-Fascist Action (AFA) is a national network of local groups and contacts. We take action to combat the far-right and rightwing government policies. This includes holding demonstrations, blockades, distributing flyers to inform people, putting up posters/ stickers, and supporting other organizations. KIOSK

KIOSK Rotterdam is a bookshop, (riso) print workshop and Multi Tool Press. The selection hosts radical/critical theory, fiction, poetry and selfpublishing practices. KIOSK is founded by artist Philippa Driest. Her practices revolve around topics of maintenance and distribution. In her work she explores different sites of contamination and leakage through publishing, performance and multi-media research installations. The Multi Tool Press is a publishing practice that produces zines, publications, posters, pamphlets and flyers on the MH9350E (previously GR3710) Risograph printer. The press works through the act of leaking resources and knowledge, redistributing funds from bookselling and by repurposing leftover materials from other print jobs. It’s driven by collaboration and the connections built through KIOSK.

VMO DISTRO

VMO is a distro with zines and stickers on the intense experience of living in a collapse stage of capitalism and crumbling empires. With a focus on the speed, nihilism, and joy of the struggle for total liberation through feral ecologies, queer weirdness, anarchist aesthetics, and intensity.

VETO

VeTo (Verzet Tegen Oorlog) is a coalition of local collectives formed in response to the annual arms fair in Rotterdam Ahoy. As a coalition, they unite around three principles: anti militarism, anti imperialism and the right to resist.

RADICAL THERAPY

Radical therapy groups come together in self-organized and non-hierarchical structures, in which the members are supporting each other with struggles and recognizing the influence that oppressive structures of patriarchy, capitalism, sexism (etc…) have on our emotional, psychological and relational well-being. By doing this, it forms an infrastructure against the mental health industrial complex and its costly, institutionalized, hierarchical, medical and pathologizing forces. At our stand we will have zines and other materials and we would love to talk to you!

the little red kitchen / het rode keukentje

Lunch and dinner will be prepared by The Little Red Kitchen, a food and mutual aid collective that works from the belief that everyone should be able to eat good food. The Little Red Kitchen provides free or low-cost meals, hosts solidarity dinners, and raises funds for important causes. By using food to support our community and bring people together, they aim to be a center of care for those with revolutionary spirits. They raise awareness and money for causes that need solidarity, by bringing people together around the dinner table, paying particular attention to women, queer people and people of colour. If you are able to, please donate to the Little Red Kitchen so they can keep supporting our communities through their work. You can donate in cash or via a QR code.

gemaal op zuid

Gemaal op Zuid is a lively place for collective usage, managed by the Afrikaanderwijk Coöperatie. Together with their partners, the collective provides a home for a variety of activities from exhibitions, to knowledge-sharing initiatives, community meals and neighborhood organizing.
