Holiday Style 2012

Kathie Chrisicos, Teresa Burnett, Linda, Donna Terry - IFDA New England Holiday Party 2012

Seasons Greetings!

Holidays 2012

We’re heading into the home stretch of the year and 2013 will be here before we know it. Crazy - wasn’t it just Y2K?? As I look back on 2012, I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had. From my amazing clients who place their trust in me and my stewardship of their design projects to the chance to travel to Chicago to speak on social media, my quick trip to New York and the Architectural Digest Home Show to hobnob with some of my favorite design bloggers and capping it off was my recent IFDA New England Award for Best Living Space Design. I’m looking forward to 2013 bringing as many exciting adventures! In this issue of ::Surroundings:: I have focused on showcasing stylish holiday gift ideas for all budgets as well as featuring some beautiful finds in malachite green and glittery silver & champagne for all year ‘round. I’ve included a scrapbook of some of my favorite holiday images of decorations and floral arrangements I’ve created and a few “drive-by shootings” of pretty holiday lights. As we embark on yet another month of holiday madness I hope you’ll find inspiration on these pages. This can be a crazy time, so take a few minutes, pour a cup of cocoa and enjoy!

If you’ve ever been to the Metropolitan Opera you will undoubtedly never forget the first time you witnessed the iconic Sputnik Chandeliers make their way to the heavens heralding the start of each performance. I was on a seventh grade field trip attending a matinee of La Bohème and it was magical - especially from the nosebleed seats. (Read more here about the recent refurbishment of these breathtaking works of art). Fast forward to a couple of years ago where I attended an amazing performance of Madama Butterfly. My orchestra seat was directly underneath a grouping of these sparkling beauties and I just had to take a photo. Since picture taking is frowned upon (shhh....!) I just placed my camera on its back on my lap, held my breath and snapped off a few frames. I got lucky! Since I basically “stole” the image, I thought I’d give back a bit by sharing some of their divine Sputnik inspired stocking stuffers from The Met’s gift shop - enjoy! Photo by Linda Merrill

Malachite Madness Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral and is typically associated with

copper deposits around limestones, the source of the carbonate. Deposits are found world-wide, notably in Russia and Africa. The mineral was used as a paint pigment until the early 19th century and has long been used in jewelry and decorative objects.
