Monday to Thursday business meetings in PHOENIX2, on Friday a 6-hour executive board meeting at the company’s GLOBAL HQ, and next week the same again, jetting from one meeting to the next – always AVANTI, AVANTI! And then finally: Vacations with my family. A week off, just us: my wife VALERIE and our kids. What a contrast, what an OASIS of peace. Our son RONIN, an ACE in sports, in the CORAL OCEAN all day long – wind-surfing, wakeboarding, kitesurfing. Our daughters AMADEA and TITANIA enjoying their school holidays on board the spacious yacht, too.

My wife and I, swimming in the main deck’s infinity pool, and later indulging in A+ quality dinning. In the evenings, we’d go down to the cinema to watch movies, or we’d sit on deck, looking into the star-lit sky over the PACIFIC, just to wake up the next morning, pampered by the RISING SUN’s first warm beams. Tell you what – the opportunities to recharge the batteries were simply LIMITLESS! Anything can happen onboard a LÜRSSEN:

EDITORIAL Fairy tales help us break boundaries of time and culture, feeding our imaginations. What are fairy tales and what value do they have today? Fairy tales are stories involving fantastic forces and beings, such as fairies, wizards and goblins...

Like all stories, fairy tales are meant to entertain, but that's secondary. Unlike today's novels, their main purpose is to give a moral in a way the audience will remember. They exist to TEACH A CLEAR LESSON, often through a poor, brave, and resourceful hero or heroine who goes through testing adventures to eventual good fortune. They mainly convey messages of overcoming adversity, rising from rags to riches, and the benefits of courage, but fairy tales are also extremely moral in their demarcation between good and evil, RIGHT AND WRONG... Fairy tales also can act as a guide to encourage smart thinking and courage to dare... And, fairy tales also can be a unique experience for each reader or listener.

Fairy-tale is therefore the context in which we have inserted these nautical tales, choosing stories of boats, ideas, concepts and projects and constructions, which had a challenge to fulfill, a message to deliver capable of teaching and opening new scenarios. The nautical tales open after a passage through the magic of Margarita Kareva's photographic works, the enchantment of Elie Saab's creations and the wonder of De Castelli's metal vibes. The first nautical fairy tale tells us about the largest constructions built in the last two years, in the range up to 100 meters, the size often associated with the idea of ​​a "dream boat". Codecasa presents an idea of ​​a boat which places us in a dream of the past, while the megayacht Yersin is witness to an important message that it conveys through the charm of adventure and discovery and that wants to remember the importance of research and studies, especially those carried out by scientists of the past thanks to which we are now able to explore the world. The fairy tale by Azimut tells a long-standing design history, a pioneer shipyard in the field of research and design that with this project uses all its best resources to create the perfect boat.

Baglietto opens the horizons towards a new era while Sanlorenzo offers a positive reading of the current scenario, giving us momentum and vitality. Columbus K2 represents the sporty hero. The yacht represents the owner’s appetite for sporty looks with speeds to match and mirrors his personality, style and approach to life: sporty, travelcentric and open-minded. The Riva brand is the promise of impeccable aesthetics and embodies the essence of beauty that survives over time. Kismet is unquestionably the realisation of both luxury and uncompromised perfection: the image of everything one could wish for. The new Lürssen innovation concept experience, Alice, does not need any explanation since it is a tribute to the world of imagination, and in this case to a sort of imagination where dream can come true.

Traditional fairy tales come to life in wonderful images, real tales of an intriguing and delicate fantasy world, able to lead the viewer to a universe where magic is really possible.

argarita Kareva is a Russian photographer who specializes in artistic photography and portraits. In her shots she manages to revive Russian fairy tales by portraying women, who according to her have a mystical charm, disguised as princesses or fairytale witches.

Through the use of beautiful costumes, mystical settings, surreal elements and a skilful use of digital tools, Margarita Kareva has built a portfolio of wonderful images inspired

by Russian fairy tales and folkloric suggestions.

Perhaps this interest for the world of fairy tales is explained by the fact that Margarita began taking photographs from the age of 5. An interest that grew more and more alive thanks to the knowledge of the works by Annie Leibovitz, the celebrated American photographer best known for her engaging and dramatic celebrity portraits. Having in mind Leibovitz as her source of inspiration, Margarita shows that certain sensitivity in transposing imaginary worlds into reality.

By inserting extravagant, out of the ordinary elements, the artist manages to create unique photos, demonstrating how much her artistic career is in constant evolution.

Inspired by fantasy books, Kareva lets the mind travel, using the photographic medium to translate them into visual representations of extraordinary beauty and expressive power. It's impossible not to be captured by her images that bring to mind the most beautiful fairy tales of our childhood and the most famous Walt Disney cartoons.

A surreal world therefore, made up of colors, clothes and details in part remain linked to reality.

Russian photographer Margarita Kareva’s dazzling fairy tale images tell a story of some wonderful place, far away, where dreamy ice queens and lady falconers roam through snowy landscapes and polar bears stalk through an enchanted forest. Sources of inspiration of her work are many: books, movies, real people, unusual creations from the fashion world. “Sometimes I walk around the city or travel abroad, and I’m inspired to capture beautiful places, nature, and architecture”, she says.

Her photographs are always some sort of a story, sometimes her fictional stories. She’s never aimed to embody the image of a particular tale, story, or character. She simply creates her own stories.

Margarita started to take professional photos only for a few years. Before she changed a bunch of jobs, making experience in various areas, from web programming to marketing and analytics. “In all areas I was a successful worker, but eventually every job ended the same way, with me sitting in a stuffy office all day long suffering from deadly boredom!”.

She started practicing photography a few years ago (beginning with a birthday gift, her first semi-lens reflex camera), and then after a while she just got stuck on this new hobby.

“THE HARDEST PART IS THE PROCESS OF SHOOTING; WHEN FILMING WITH ANIMALS, THERE’S ALWAYS THE RISK OF VERY BAD TEMPERS!”

Some of her photos are quite elaborate and require much preparation. Each series has its own history. Almost all of her shoots are quite extreme due to the fact that she often shoots with animals or in bad weather, and then unusual things are always happening on the set. “I cannot recall a single quiet and comfortable shooting. My photos seem complicated, but usually preparation for a photo shoot does not take much time. Quite often, we dress the model ten minutes before the shoot. It just takes a lot of imagination. However, the hardest part is the process of shooting; there can be difficulties with open locations, with the variability of illumination, with the weather. When filming with animals, there’s always the risk of very bad tempers!”.

Currently in Russia there are several prominent photographers working with fairy tales, to such an extent that it is possible to identify them with a kind of artistic movement. As to Kareva, she is been travelling abroad more and more lately, “to film in exotic places (exotic for me!). I love Europe, and the spirit of the Middle Ages. For filming, I might go to Prague again”.

Today, many photographers opt to forego realism for aesthetics more fantastic in nature. Though the fairytales and folklore that inspire them are centuries-old, many of these photographers seek to modernize them through their whimsical work.

Here, we present a striking selection of fairytale-inspired photography. Each magic photo in this selection of series offers an enchanting look at age-old allegories. In her outdoor settings, Margarita Kareva employs surreal props, ornate costumes, and even live animals in order to capture the mystery and magic of each traditional tale. Each photo showcases the photographer’s artistic approach to both the craft itself and to the storybook tales she seeks to reinterpret.

“The collection came to life after some time spent in the company with Elie Saab. We shared stories about the inspiration behind his creations, his work process and his selection of shapes, colors and materials. There is a focus on quality materials in woodworking as well.

Prevailing in the collection is macassar ebony, shown in its two variants: lacquered and matt. The collection proposes as well smoked eucalyptus, sycamore maple and sucupira, a noble wood of South American origin. All the wood makes a reference to the world of Elie Saab, adding extraordinary value to the pieces.

The identity of the collection can be summed up as “Spectacular Elegance”, harmoniously linking together its distinctiveness, its shapes contemporary spirit, its tradition and attention to detail. The Elie Saab Maison collection offers an “Exclusive” version, custom-made with unlimited combinations of materials and finishes dedicated to the brand’s first mono brand showrooms which were inaugurated in Beirut, Dubai and Milan in 2021, as well as other fashion capitals, including Paris and Moscow in 2022.

The Night Collection consists of three beds, a bedside table and “Valet de Nuit”, a true personal assistant during rest time, a system that integrates a series of mirrors and structures for storing objects. These collections are accompanied by a range of lights, rugs, cushions and accessories.

CIPHER / Collection DeTile A modular system with a solid yet dynamic appearance, halfway between rigour and randomness. Starting out from four rectangular formats, each characterised by a differentlysized rectangle with an eroded pattern within it, Cipher creates surfaces of great complexity and detail by employing a very simple code based on a minimum number of elements. The relationship between order and randomness can be observed across the entire product range: both in the micro, where each module has a unique, constantly varying finishing, and in the macro, where the random repetition of the elements occurs within a precise grid with staggered

3D Wall is an effective wall cladding system, providing maximum composition flexibility. The square- shaped modules, diagonally sectioned, are fixed by magnets to a special metal sheet anchored to the wall. The different depths of the sides, coupled with the possibility to customise the modules with the range of De Castelli finishes, accentuate the sculptural aspect of 3D Wall: by rotating each element by 90 °, it is possible to play on the alternation of colours and thicknessesto emphasize its three- dimensional quality.

The DeErosion collection is the culmination of a longstanding experimentation, and is obtained by integrating technological solutions with completely manual techniques employing craftsmanship of the highest order. The distinctive finishing is created using controlled erosion of the metal, the result of ongoing research into materials which has always been a hallmark of De Castelli. The extremely versatile working process amplifies the vibrant appearance of the material, creating a great sense of depth.

VERTICAL GREEN / Collection DeSign

ARAZZI / Collection DeFrame

This re-imagining of a three-dimensional geometric pattern fashioned with Virginia Creeper leaves is inspired by nature and has echoes of an art nouveau composition, whilst leaving room for abstraction. The “vertical garden” backdrop thus created evokes a characteristic autumn landscape, warmed by the choice of materials and their manifold oxidations and finishes.

DeFrames transcends the traditional boundaries of design and interior decoration to explore the limits of artistic expression in an original way. Freed from its primary function as a wall covering, the metal surfaces become artistic works, giving full rein to the creativity of graphic designers, interior experts and architects. Designer surfaces with declared artistic value: DeFrames works are textured panels designed to be wall hung. Engravings, inlays, controlled erosion, oxidations and enamels make up the De Castelli palette, which over time transforms the material into an abstract painting, illustration or tapestry. The graphic design enhances the beauty of the material and the complexity of the workmanship employed, transforming the composition into a true piece of art. DIAMOND 30 / Collection DeMosaic The distinctive punched design that embellishes each tile gives great depth of texture to the surface, which is further enhanced by the DeLabré finishes. Diamond 30 embodies and showcases the meticulous care that goes into producing

each and every piece, enhancing the physical value of the material. Each module provides a textural reminder of the craftsmanship employed in its production.

LOSANGA / Collection DeMosaic Formal elegance and perfect craftsmanship characterise the Losanga mosaic, with its distinctive rhomboid tile design.

The two- or three- element arrangement gives rise to complex patterns, made even more precious by the nuances of the DeLabré workmanship, which lends a 3-dimensional optical illusion to the surface.

MARKET TRENDS

BEING A MEGAYACHT IN THE 80-100 METRE RANGE AZZAM, ECLIPSE, DILBAR... SUPER BOATS THAT HAVE MADE HISTORY AND THAT DUE TO THEIR SIZE, AKA MAJESTY, HAVE BEEN AND STILL ARE AT THE CENTER OF PARTICULAR ATTENTION FROM THE MARKET, CUSTOMERS AND THE MEDIA. HOW MANY OF THESE MEGA/GIGAYACHTS HERE PROPOSED WILL HAVE THE SAME IMPACT IN THE FUTURE?

T

hese last two years of production have seen truly amazing yachts touch the water, with a unique charm as well as innovative in many respects. We have considered here 13 yachts built in 2020 and 2021 with a length between 87 meters, M/Y Avantage and 142 meters, M/Y Nord. It is quite difficult to trace common characteristics, since all of these boats are very different from each other, starting from the most evident aspect, which is that of the bow, vertical or elongated, up to the design idea of the stern, which often host very large beach clubs, also visible to observers, or on the contrary more reserved spaces.

The external lines, especially the lateral ones, are the most significant and decisive for the recognizability of the boat.

To further characterize this lastest period of construction, also the fact that the boats considered here have been designed and engineered by a list of different designers and architects, perhaps this aspect has also helped this fleet to be so heterogeneous from a creative point of view.

as Opus and Project Redwood, left Lürssen shipyard to begin her maiden voyage last February 2021, after rigorous sea trials in the Baltic Sea. The 141.6-metre Nord was designed with one idea in mind: “she must cause strong emotions in every observer, not only through her sheer size, but with the design itself”. Responsible for her stunning exterior and interior design is the Italian design studio Nuvolari-Lenard, who have given Nord her striking appearance with a bow design never before seen on a yacht. “Whether you like the design or not, it must strike you. Nord is a serious ship first and foremost, but she also transcends the traditional language of yacht design. She is a warship wearing a tuxedo, an explorer with the elegance of a gentleman's yacht. We have entered a new direction in serious yacht design”, comments Dan Lenard.

Its bow looks like that of an aircraft carrier, with two helicopter landing pads (on the main deck and at midship).

Nord has implemented an exhaust after treatment system, which consists of the combination of a silencer with a selective catalytic reduction in the same casing, which can achieve a cleaning rate up to 97 % of nitrogen and additional reduction of acoustic noise – a Lürssen development.

Each yacht has more than one trait that identifies her: the yacht we have put here in first place, is M/Y Nord, which shows a unique bow, with a military charm, as well as unmistakable aesthetic and design solutions chosen for the side view. Here, in fact, we find a curved line, a sort of bow, which softens the whole rear part of the boat, from the lower deck to the top, wrapping the boat as if in an embrace.

142M LÜRSSEN M/Y NORD

140M LLOYD WERFT M/Y SOLARIS

Designed by Australian designer Marc Newson, Solaris was launched at German yard Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven in February 2021 and built as a top-secret project. The yacht came to light and became popular during her subsequent sea trials. With her 140 metres in lenght is one of the largest superyachts launched last year. Key exterior features include a light grey hull and white superstructure. Solaris is an explorer yacht with a beam of 21.35m, a draft of 5.95m and a volume of 11,247 GT. Designed to accomodate up to 36 guests on board, the superyacht Solaris is managed by a crew of 60 members. With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Solaris is powered by 6 MTU engines, 1 MTU engine, and is able to reach a top speed of 18.0 kn.

Name: Apho

The 115 metre Lürssen superyacht Ahpo, previously known as Project Enzo, hit the water in June 2021 and was delivered to her owner by German yard Lürssen in November 2021, after intensive sea trials in the North Sea.

95M FEADSHIP M/Y BLISS

Launched by the Feadship yard in Makkum in May 2021, the 95-metre M/Y Bliss is a magnificent pure custom, timeless family yacht which benefits from the very latest hybrid propulsion and, with Polar Code certification, is set to be a world traveller. The owner was much involved in the exterior and interior design, with incredible attention to detail and a fantastic cooperation between designer Jan Schaffers of Studio De Voogt for the exterior design and Rémi Tessier for the elegant interior style. The result is an iconic design that feels natural and welcoming, inside and out. The yacht has state-of-the-art technology and engineering covering all onboard systems. Advanced security and life-safety systems have been discretely incorporated. Exceptionally flexible in terms of its ultra-efficient energy consumption and offering major fuel savings, this package helps to protect the environment and provides premium comfort for all who step aboard.

94M FEADSHIP M/Y VIVA

The owner of Viva set the target of keeping the environmental impact of this ground-breaking eco-friendly 94-metre custom Feadship at around the same levels as his previous Feadship, despite that being 32 metres shorter in length.

This highly ambitious goal was in part achieved thanks to the exceptionally advanced hybrid propulsion system, which allows Viva to travel a comfortable 12 knots on diesel-electric power in all the areas the yacht is set to explore. The giant glass construction is a prominent feature in this remarkable exterior design by Feadship Studio De Voogt and Azure. They also obviously play a key role in the open beach-house-style interior by Peter Marino Architects. The owner’s ‘less is more’ philosophy has influenced every aspect of the design inside and out, with an abundance of clean lines. Painted in a special pearl-white livery, the hull has been designed, engineered and built to be as efficient as possible and reduce the engine power required to move Viva through the water.

The 88m M/Y Zen was built as Project 816 by Feadship and delivered to her owner in April 2021. This luxury vessel features exterior design by De Voogt Naval Architects, while her interior was penned by Nauta Yachts and FM Architettura, with naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects.

Built by Akyacht from Turkey, the 85m M/Y Victorious was delivered in 2021. With exterior design by Michael Leach Design Ltd. and interiors by H2 Yacht Design, Victorious can accomodate up to 20 guests and 21 crew members. The yacht is powered by 2 Caterpillar engines, which give her a cruising speed of 13.0 kn and a top speed of 15.5 kn.

Victorious started life fourteen years ago in Northern Chile as a 77m explorer, but construction was stopped when the shipyard ran into financial difficulty. The yacht spent two years under construction in New Zealan, but again found itself half-complete. The unfinished explorer piqued the interest of a new owner in 2016, who decided to set up his own yard AK Yachts to complete the construction. The ambitious undertaking started with extending the yacht’s stern by six metres, along with the addition of a two-metre bowsprit bringing the total length to 85 metres.

Known as project Lightning during construction, Scheherazade is a 140-metre yacht built in Germany by Lürssen and delivered in 2020. Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Scheherazade is one of the 20 largest yachts in the world.

One of the most noteworthy yachts delivered in 2020, Luminosity benefits from years of design work and construction. She has massive volume (5,844 GT) and and unmatched natural light through 811 square meters of floor to ceiling glass. One of the “greenest” yachts delivered, she has diesel-electric propulsion with clean exhausts and a battery bank enabling 12 hours of silent operation at anchor.

In addition to the Owner Suite there are three Guest Cabins and two Crew Cabins. Given the size of the boat each space had to be carefully designed to allow for a completely separate wheelhouse and kitchen, ensuring total privacy for the yacht owner and guests.

edicated to the Swiss physician and scientist, Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943), who discovered the plague bacillus in 1894 and who made countless discoveries in the fields of anatomy, physics and chemistry, studies on diphtheria and tuberculosis, and who also contributed with his activity as an explorer, this 76.6m explorer vessel was built and wanted by its owner in the spirit of adventure, science and

education: “When the boat did not exist, it was very difficult to make people understand what it would be. Is there any other boat like Yersin? No, not really. I think we are the only one.”

If Alexandre Yersin’s life was a mission on behalf of the planet, and indeed the scientist decided not to pass on his name to his descendants - he never married and never had children - but to hand him over to science, in the same way Yersin’s owner built this boat to allow not only charter clients, but also groups of researchers and students to explore the world to feed their insatiable curiosity.

hen, in 2020, the collaboration between Tecnomar, a sports brand acquired in 2009 by The Italian Sea Group, and Automobili Lamborghini, a Volkswagen group, was announced for the fourhanded creation of a yacht inspired by the world of super sport cars, thought did not could only go to other previous experiences of hybridization between the nautical world and famous automotive brands, from Aston Martin to Mercedes, from Lexus to Bugatti. But no one, at the time, would have imagined the production of a real series that went beyond the exercise of style, beyond the one-shot prototype, and also quite successful in commercial terms. Above all, no one would have ever imagined the perfect alchemy between the two brands, with their respective teams of technicians and designers, in giving life to a model that, setting a new standard in the avant-garde of luxury speed boats, faithfully transfers all the emotion of the Lamborghini style. No one, except Giovanni Costantino, CEO & Founder of The Italian Sea Group, one of the first operators in the world of luxury yachting active in the construction and refit of motoryachts and ships up to 100 meters, who is not new to partnerships with top brands of the made in Italy.

Call it strategic foresight or vision, accompanied by pragmatic rigor and calculated madness. The same entrepreneurial mix that in just over ten years, and not even the happiest for the pleasure boat industry, has projected the shipyard in Marina di Carrara (MS), formerly NCA, rebuilt on an area of ​​about 100 thousand square meters in the district of Italian yachting, at the top of international yachting alongside the big shipyards of the sector, thanks to a series of successful acquisitions and the relaunch on the market of the related brands: Admiral, renowned for the production of fully custom boats with classic elegance in the segment over 50 meters, and the complementary brand Tecnomar, known instead for the sporty determination and high performance of its steel and aluminum yachts up to 45 meters (147 units completed the first, 289 the second). In addition, the third brand, Nca Refit, has become a reference point in the Mediterranean for the repair and maintenance activities of mega and superyachts, with a focus on vessels over 60 meters in length.

The listing last June on the Mercato Telematico Azionario of the Italian Stock Exchange scores a further goal in the developement of the yard, designed to support the dimensional growth of orders over time with strategic investments and progressive expansion of production spaces. The last one, currently underway, will see the construction of a second 160-meter-long dry dock by 2022, in addition to the existing 200-meter dock. The brand extension activities launched, aimed at consolidating the positioning on the market through excellent collaborations consistent with the Group’s philosophy, are also part of this development logic. Such as the partnership with Giorgio Armani, involved in the construction of a 72m Admiral, which then became a shareholder with approx 5% at the time of listing. Or the agreement with the Casa del Toro (House of the Bull), precisely, for the joint development of the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 limited series, which came after an exhaustive feasibility study from a strategic and commercial point of view.

Presented in July 2021, the new water sports car represents a double record: the first unit of the series and delivery to the first Italian owner of the Group. A sign that the combination

works and the design developed jointly by the design team of the yard, led by the architect Gian Marco Campanino, with the Style Department in Casa di Sant’Agata Bolognese, led by Mitja Borkert, has hit the target: transferring the pleasure of driving, the superlative performances and the emotions generated by Lamborghini cars to water, thanks to the study of cutting-edge engineering solutions and a design with attention to the smallest detail to identify the sporting soul of both brands at a glance, together with the quality manufacturing typical of the made in Italy artisan tradition. “An excellent example of how The Italian Sea Group collaborates and constantly grows together with its customers, but above all together with its partners”, comments Costantino, expressing satisfaction for what he defines without hesitation, “a product never made until now”.

A perfect circle for numerology lovers. Which ends with heart-pounding performance capable of guaranteeing an adrenaline-pumping but at the same time comfortable and safe ride in the face of extreme performance: just like a Lamborghini, the 63 tackles the wave with softness, demonstrating full control even at high speeds, that can be achieved thanks to the power of the two 2000 horsepower MAN V12 engines, combined with the T Drive by Flexitab surface transmissions supplied by Tonissi Marine. A true champion, which owes much of the credit to the innovative V-shaped hull with double redan, designed by the Victory Design studio of Brunello Acampora together with the engineering team of Tecnomar and Lamborghini to reduce friction and fly over water, without lose in stability and seaworthiness.

The racing derivation of the hull, which adopts solutions and technologies typical of the world of offshore racing, is paired with an almost sculptural exterior design, inspired by the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, the first super sports car with hybrid propulsion branded by the Bull, as well as the fastest ever out of the Sant’Agata factories, as announced in the name, which in Bolognese dialect means “lightning bolt”.

A masterpiece of high engineering, proposed in a limited edition of 63 exclusive pieces, fully customizable in colors and details, just like its nautical twin. The interpretation of the common traits of both brands drove the main inspiration of all phases of the project, from the creation of the external lines to the definition of the technical characteristics capable of ensuring excellent performance, without neglecting onboard comfort and the quality of the materials worked with attention to every single detail. “From the very beginning, the relationship between us was very open and ideas began to flow quickly. It is not taken for granted that chemistry is created in the design team but, when it does, it becomes an adventure”, says Mitja Borkert. Two guidelines agreed with Tecnomar in shaping the design concept: speed and dynamic lightness, enclosed in a motoryacht that merges the genetic heritage of the two brands in an almost surgical way to intercept the tastes of Lamborghini collectors and, at the same time, the needs of those who love to experience the sea “beyond the limits”. The superstructure entirely made of carbon fiber, a typical material of Lamborghini cars, guarantees the classification in the range of ultralight boats with a maximum weight of 24 tons for about 19 meters in length. All combined with reduced fuel consumption, 400 liters per hour at a cruising speed of 40 knots, for a range of approximately 360 nautical miles.

You can see at a glance that it is a real Lamborghini on the sea, even before starting the engine and speeding at full throttle.

The design of the exteriors, in fact, imposes itself as a real statement of sportiness, exhibiting a sharp, cutting-edge silhouette, which breaks with any typically nautical scheme.

“One of the main challenges was to be able to keep a very low profile, like that of super cars. This is not easy on board a yacht, where it is always necessary to guarantee the right space and maximum comfort. It was a great balancing act between making everything as light and elegant as possible but also robust and vibration-free”, explains Gian Marco Campanino. The extremely performing hull is in composite material while the superstructure is in carbon fiber. The front view of the yacht reproduces the hexagonal geometry which, starting with the iconic Miura and Countach, characterizes Lamborghini cars. “At that time, the hexagon was an avantgarde symbol, the shape of the future. And it still is, even in this boat, where the same geometry is re-proposed thanks to the insertion of protruding glass panels that run along the hull, sculpting the sides”, explains Borkert.

FKP 37, both characterized by front headlamps that carry the “Y”, the car manufacturer’s distinctive stylistic element.

The game of mimesis becomes more and more pushed in the driving position, tracing in all respects the emotion given by a Lamborghini cockpit. The hi-tech dashboard interprets the cockpit of the famous four-wheeler in a nautical key, with a large digital dashboard that emulates the graphics and a second touch screen display that integrates all the navigation and monitoring systems of the on-board systems. There is no shortage of leather racing seats with safety belts, along with a helm that replicates the three-spoke steering wheel of the Sián, the various details in carbon fiber and the use of Carbon Skin; even the legendary “Start & Stop” buttons are the same ones that start the roaring super sports cars.

Behind the driving position, a generous dinette with dining area and seating for eight people offers an ideal setting for enjoying an outdoor meal completely immersed in the natural setting. The typically walkaround system provides for the presence of two generous sundecks: one located at bow, the second aft of the cockpit, beyond which the deck plan joins with steps sloping down to the extended bridge, curiously shaped like the tail of the Sián.

Inspired by the roadster models, the futuristic doublecurved carbon hard top also helps to define the muscular and gritty look of the yacht, optimized to ensure exceptional aerodynamic qualities and at the same time offer protection from the sun and the wind. As to contamination, the bow lights represent a clear homage to the Lamborghini world, in particular, to the Terzo Millennio concept car and to the Sián

Access to the lower deck is located to starboard of the helm station. Even the interiors of the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 are the result of a meticulous high-tech design based on the use of highly performing materials, both in terms of weight reduction and functionality, without however compromising with the craftsmanship of the best made in Italy creations.

The below deck layout includes a hyper-technological galley, the forward owner’s cabin, which can be converted into a lounge area on request and, on the left side of the hull, a spacious guest cabin equipped with two single beds, which can be joined as a double. Common to both cabins, a generous bathroom with shower and toilet, needless to say, in carbon.

Iconic elements of the Lamborghini world - such as the hexagon and the Y - recur in the interior design, deliberately clean and linear. References to the House of the Bull abound, such as the skylight in the owner’s suite that reproduces the shape of the famous emblem, the sporty carbon finishes or the coatings also of automotive origin, marked on the first model in the dark gray and yellow tones of the fabrics used: pasubio leather, eco-leather and microfiber, with contrasting stitching details. But, just as with the supercars of Sant’Agata Bolognese, the materials and color palettes on board are fully customizable according to the requests and tastes of individual owners. Thanks to a customization program called “Ad Personam”, the same one available for the super sports cars Huracán and Aventador, it is possible to prepare a wide variety of material combinations in different shades on the 63 feet boat. This applies to the interior as well as to the exterior livery, which incorporates the exclusive Lamborghini paintwork. An example of this is the particular Gea green chosen for the first unit: “A slightly nautical color, immediately recognizable, which at first glance declares the exceptional nature of the model”, says Campanino. If it is true that “there is not one Lamborghini, but ‘your’ Lamborghini”, the custom-built of the sea speaks the same language of uniqueness, to the delight of those who dream of a yacht coordinated with their GT. Because, as they say from Sant’Agata Bolognese, and agree in Marina di Carrara, the details make perfection and perfection is not a detail.

The Trideck, part of the Grande Collection, is a boat with a revolutionary layout that redefines the traditional concept of space distribution, both internal and external, in the name of flexibility and closer contact with the sea. Despite the explosion of internal volumes, the Trideck maintains dynamic and light external lines, developed by Mancini, starting from the inclusion of an intermediate staggered deck aft, a floating platform that allows to offer four cascading terraces on a three-deck yacht, each with a specific functional dimension, which slope down from the top to sea level. The sporty look adopted by the designer on other Azimut Yachts models softens here to get closer to the modern yet elegant silhouette of a great flagship. The extreme cleanliness of the features dominates, from the large windows that create a continuous, uninterrupted surface up to the stern, to the sloping windshield that ends with a vertical windbreak on the Sun Deck. Borrowing a stylistic language used in car design, Mancini worked on the “(car) bodywork” to restore movement to the hull, thanks to a rib that starts from the stern, at the height of the exhausts, and gives dynamic tension to the side up to the bow. The fairleads themselves from functional elements become design details.

but more intimate and private: a protected Private Patio, ideal for dining or relaxing enjoying maximum privacy when anchored by stern. It is configured as a hybrid environment, outdoors but covered, a natural extension of the lounge with a flush-deck access threshold that does not create clear-cut separations between inside and outside.

Raised above the lower deck, the View Terrace gives a height of 2 meters to the underlying Beach Area, a lounge overlooking the sea open on three sides, usable in all its width also thanks to the fact that tenders and toys are placed in a separate garage. During stops at anchor, the hinged transom opens to increase the available surface to more than 30 square meters, offering a fully equipped area to enjoy the sea, fully customizable in the furnishings and served by a day head and a bar cabinet hidden from view.

Aft of the Upper Deck, the third terrace is represented by the outdoor dining area, which develops around a square table (which can be extended to accommodate 12 people), handcrafted in natural teak with a white lacquered insert, rounded off by corner sofas for aperitif and a series of furniture for the service. The stern area of ​​the Sun Deck completes the poker of terraces, a large sunbathing area with freestanding furniture and a view overlooking the sea. In the center of the deck, a lounge area hosts opposing circular sofas and a table that cab be easily transformed into a space for lunch and an American bar with a large barbecue at the bow.

The Sea View Terrace, as the fourth terrace has been renamed, is accessed directly from the quay via a central staircase, which immediately guides guests into the heart of the “+ One” revolution, a manifesto of the yard’s design innovation: a cantilevered area, that precedes the traditional cockpit, conceived as a real open and suspended living room, which detaching itself from the sides seems to float in the air, giving a large convivial area of ​​about 30 square meters, set up with living solutions and a C-shaped sofa facing the sea. A few steps below, on the main deck, behind the View Terrace, the cockpit offers an additional new area, always external

thanks to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows and the soft colors chosen for the fabrics and walls. At the entrance, a bar cabinet, characterized by a particular Carrara marble top with a built-in table lamp, serves both the lounge and the adjacent outdoor area. Every furniture and detail is designed with the attention that a flagship deserves, from the large enveloping sofas to the integrated cabinet, also with marble top, from the refined design of the armchairs to the wooden floor laid in a herringbone pattern with brass inserts, touches of elegance for an environment played on material and chromatic combinations. Thus, for example, the carpets next to the sofas do not rest on the teak parquet but an insert has been created flush with the floor. The same parquet is not applied in a standard way, but according to a different geometry thanks to the different poses of the slats, which at the entrance follow a stern-bow trend while near the sofas they are arranged diagonally resuming the movement of the essences used for the vertical bulkheads. Glossy mahogany inserts are a counterpoint to the light tones of the main essence, very clean and linear. Mahogany, a great classic of luxury yachting, is at the same time a sober material, with few movements and flames, which perfectly matches the used leathers, which in turn are well matched to the main essence and the white lacquered ceilings. These toneon-tone choices create harmony and continuity by giving greater prominence to refined elements such as the coffee tables made in a full-mold metal bath, a complex process that involves immersing the entire mold in the metal.

As for the other models in the Grande Collection, Azimut Yachts relied on Achille Salvagni for the design of the interior spaces and furnishings. These, just as the exteriors revolutionize the traditional layout, redefine the role of spaces, imagining an alternative use of the environments, which are dilated, enlarged and perfectly integrated with the open air areas. The idea is to tell a new way of experiencing the boat, in a harmonious continuum between inside and outside, without interruptions but only hinges.

In this fluidity, the space is not defined in its function, but remains more liquid and changeable, sculpted around the desire for conviviality and sociability. Hence the decision to move the dining area from the Main to the Upper Deck: an unprecedented solution, which breaks with nautical schemes, giving lightness to the main deck, without however conferring formal rigidity to the skylounge on the upper deck, characterized on the contrary by a relaxed and hushed atmosphere.

Salvagni does not limit himself to redefining the environments, but enriches them through a strong work on décor, favoring the tension of the forms, the purity and cleanliness of the line, abandoning all ostentation. By virtue of this principle, he personally designed every single piece of furniture, removing the superfluous to make room for a skilful alternation of materials, the refinement of their combinations, color choices and finishes.

The ceilings are characterized by oxidized brass inserts, in a circular shape and embedded in the white lacquered ceiling, a decoration that recalls the lunar craters. The same decoration is found in the owner’s suite, where a special lacquer has been applied to the recess. Asymmetrical cuts, then taken up both in the upholstery and in the light-colored carpets of the cabins, contribute to giving personality.

Elements thus defined ensure that the boat is not redundant: Salvagni has worked on specific areas by inserting shades of luxury so that the eye recalibrates all the materials and the environment is always welcoming and never too luxurious.

On the first unit, delivered in May, the owner requested high-level home automation: all the on-board utilities are controlled from the supplied tablets, including the latest generation audio / video system, including an ultra-flat 77” TV, that comes out electrically from a special compartment.

The decorations are reduced to a minimum, in favor of clean shapes and a perceived high quality that transforms minimalism into refinement. The carpet circumscribed to the bedside rugs gives way to the perimeter of the Cardoso stone, typical of Versilia, treated with a leather finish to restore a tactile sensation. The stone develops in continuity towards the sanitary area, which is not perceived as a bathroom area but as a continuation of the cabin: in front of the bed, a large sliding door opens onto a round bathtub, with a refined finish, which recalls to remember the Etruscan baths and amplify the space of the suite, transforming it into a “spa / fountain”, framed on both sides by two large suspended chest of drawers, illuminated by LEDs from below and inspired by the design of samurai armor. The whole bathroom is a compendium of high craftsmanship: the tops, the floor but also the seat obtained from a single block in the shower, also in Cardoso stone. The walls return a particular design, the result of diagonal veins, embellished with mahogany elements.

Also on the Main Deck, forward, the full-beam owner’s suite, with large windows, is conceptually divided into different areas starting from the entrance with a lobby / dressing area. The main material is tay wood, clear and clean, contrasted against a polished mahogany. Again, the furnishings tell stories of great craftsmanship. The fabrics are mainly designed by Dedar, a brand at the forefront of experimenting with new solutions, while the loose furniture designed by Salvagni, such as the bedside tables embellished with brass inserts or the breakfast table suspended between two armchairs, become an artistic element: everything it is designed to radiate energy into the space that is literally sculpted rather than filled. Always played on rounded,

the small tonnage. From a technological point of view, the quantum leap in terms of efficiency comes from the new second generation D2P Displacement to Planing hull, designed by Ausonio with the Azimut-Benetti Research and Development center, using proprietary CFD and FEM analysis software for a further optimization.

This, in addition to having an aesthetic function, helps to create an intimate and welcoming space, in contrast with the rest of the hall, all projected towards the outside. Salvagni has here recreated the atmosphere of an airplane cabin, more intimate and overlooking the sea, with two portholes positioned behind the sofa, which contrast with the much wider window cut out on the opposite side. The main table of the skylounge rises electrically, thanks to a system that required hours of planning, and extends with “petals” with a unique shape, fulfilling the dual function of a majestic dining table, or, a more practical and functional coffee table, ideal for after dinner.

If the D2P hull used on the smaller sister, Azimut Grande 35 meters, had already produced significant results, this more advanced version raises the bar: 3 meters longer, 30 GT larger and 35 tons heavier, from 19 knots upwards. The Trideck boasts the same fuel consumption as the smaller model and is even 15% more efficient at a speed of 15 knots.

When compared with a traditional hard chine hull, the displacement efficiency exceeds 40%.

The command area is a hi-tech jewel, where a futuristic design console that integrates the Simrad Command navigation system stands out. Further forward there is a large lounge area variously articulated with sundeck cushions, which surrounds the circular whirlpool tub, and an additional area with other sundecks.

This is thanks to the combination of three main elements: the double chine, which gives stability at displacement speeds while reducing drag at higher speeds; the bow wavepiercer, increasing the hull length at the waterline, reducing displacement consumption and reducing pitching in rough seas, and finally the central skeg, that guarantees optimal course stability, especially in aft quartering seas.

There are two possible alternatives proposed for the layout: the first units ordered have six guest cabins, with the sixth positioned right on the Upper Deck, while the captain’s accommodation is located on the Lower Deck, where the other four en suite cabins are located: two VIPs aft and two guests forward. A second, more traditional layout places a closed pantry below deck and the captain’s cabin, behind the bridge, and a formal dining area on the Main Deck.

The Trideck, the newest member of the Azimut Carbon Generation, features a fully carbon laminated superstructure with a 30% weight reduction and an absolute reduction of 6 tons. This allows you to keep the center of gravity at an optimal height, guaranteeing more static and dynamic stability.

Q&A with Alberto Mancini

The combination of D2P hull and carbon superstructure optimizes all performance: fuel consumption, speed and range. Equipped with two 2600 hp MTU engines (alternatively 2400 hp), it reaches a maximum speed of 24 knots, for a range of 1700 miles with a cruising speed of 12 knots.

The Trideck features an advanced power management system by SeaEnergy, which allows the automatic optimization of onboard electricity consumption through a perfect balance of shore power and the generators (or only between generators when at sea) depending on the energy needs of utilities.

SD: “How did the Azimut Grande Trideck project come to life?”

AM: “When Azimut Yachts asked me to design the external lines of the boat, I started putting on paper the first ideas for a yacht with a strong visual impact. However, I soon realized that it wasn’t enough and I decided, together with my team, to focus our energies on designing a particular layout. Thus was born the inspiration for this cascade of terraces, which descend from the Sun Deck to the sea. Then a great deal of work was done to reconcile Azimut Yachts’ DNA with this new language that takes the Grande Collection into the future.

The result is extremely clean and simple lines and an organic design, with a balance between the layout innovations and the style of the other outdoor environments”.

For even more freedom, owners can also add Hotel Mode to the Trideck. This means being able to relax, anchored in a bay with zero emissions and in total silence. With a lithium battery pack of about 130 kWh, the Trideck can operate the main onboard utilities with the generators switched off for up to 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night.

Finally, the cruising comfort is improved by a highly integrated software called Argo, designed and supplied by CMC Marine, to automatically harmonises the movement of the electronic stabilizing fins with the autopilot, avoiding waste and ensuring smooth sailing.

SD: “How did you manage to reconcile this passage?”

AM: “Azimut Grande Trideck was born from a process that had already been started together with the shipyard; thanks to past collaborations I was able to internalize the key points of Azimut Yachts DNA in order to create a new, 82

SD: “What was the most challenging aspect?”

AM: “Azimut Grande Trideck is a very ambitious project in which I was able to express myself to the fullest. But, precisely for this reason, we had to pay great attention to stay within well-defined budgets. In any case, with the full support of the shipyard, we were able to achieve more than 99% of everything we had initially imagined. I think this yacht is an excellent example of what can result from the collaboration between the design studio, the altelier and the ability and engineering know-how of Azimut Yachts”.

SD: “How did you find the balance between volumes, dynamism and lightness?”

AM: “We have studied various solutions to lighten the external lines. Like the frieze on the hull that gives tension to the side. The bow itself is not straight but cut with a double inclination, so as to offer dynamism without sacrificing space.

Even in the design of the individual decks, some elements contribute to the feeling of lightness: the Sea View Terrace itself, thanks to a play of solids and voids, appears detached from the bulwarks and floating over the sea. This also applies to the Beach Area, so that the bulwarks do not appear as a cumbersome physical barrier with water. Traditionally the stern platforms are very beautiful environments but, often, being closed at the sides, they are narrow and shady. The concept we have created, on the other hand, is exactly the opposite, a wide open terrace between sky and sea, far from the feeling of oppression typical of an enclosed space”.

SD: “Are you satisfied with the result?”

AM: “Each element is in perfect balance with the environment 83

CEO LEIB OEHMIG: EXPERT INSIGHT Leib Oehmig is Chief Executive Officer of Glen Raven, Inc. and leads the company’s worldwide operations. Working with Glen Raven since 1989 and taking the reins as CEO in 2017, here we sit down with Oehmig to hear his story through the company and what the future has in store for Sunbrella.

SD: “Tell us about yourself and your journey through the company” LO: “I grew up in a textile family and would spend my summers working in textiles as a teenager. When I was recruited by another textile manufacturer after college, my father actually encouraged me to give Glen Raven a call instead - he thought they had high integrity and something special going with Sunbrella. Thirteen positions and thirty-something years later, it turns out he was right. From my first project leading the design of a new manufacturing plant to the years spent in research and development, investing my time in the operational side of this business has given me a deep appreciation for the talent of our associates, and I take it as a great responsibility and honour to be their CEO”.

SD: “Talk us through some of the most important results of the company’s in-house R&D operations”

LO: “Through a lot of hard work, our teams have also invented new fabrics that repurpose the fibre, yarn and fabric scraps that might have otherwise ended up in a landfill at the end of our manufacturing process into new upholstery fabric that’s not just sustainable but beautiful too. And after years of research and hands-on testing, we’re delighted to introduce the new Sunbrella Plus PU (polyurethane) Coating that brings an additional level of outdoor protection for boats. We’re always hard at work looking for new ways to create resilient, beautiful fabrics that solve a real need for our consumers, no matter the setting”.

SD: “What are Glen Raven’s sustainability goals?”

LO: “Specific to supporting our boating community, we’ll continue our support of the SeaCleaners, a France-based organisation that fights against plastic pollution on land and at sea. More broadly, by 2025, Glen Raven aims to be powered entirely by renewable energy, leveraging only wind, solar and hydroelectric sources, including our on-site solar fields. We’re working to double our fabric recycling program over the next five years, with the goal of diverting an additional million pounds of our customers’ fabric scraps from landfills to be reused for a variety of industrial products. Glen Raven also aims to have a 100% participation rate in our associate volunteerism program by 2025, focusing on work that benefits early childhood education in our communities”.

stablished by Pietro Baglietto in 1854, Baglietto has always proven to be a shipbuilder that is one step ahead of the game. By the turn of the century, Baglietto had already evolved from the small-scale construction of local fishing boats in the Liguria region in northwest Italy to designing and delivering some of the most advanced sailing yachts in the world. Persevering through two World Wars, it was in the 1950s when Pietro Baglietto Junior, the yard’s founder’s grandson, took the company’s reins and guided it into the future. In the 60s, Baglietto pioneered several new production techniques, introducing fast, luxury yachts with a unique new feature: the flybridge.

The following two decades saw the Italian shipyard enter the superyacht game. The 46-metre motor yacht Al Fahdei (now Nemesis) designed by Zuccon International Project was launched in 1986, with the 47.4-metre Bannenberg & Rowell designed motor yacht Vicky (now Grand Cru) launched in 1995.

2012 saw another milestone for the historic Baglietto yard when the Gavio Group, one of Italy’s most successful industrial companies and owners of the CCN custom yacht shipyard in Carrara, acquired the Baglietto brand. In 2020 the Gavio family announced the official merger with the CCN shipyard and the dawn of a new era of Baglietto - one that is distinctly more advanced, sustainable and prepared for the future.

The 1970s are dubbed the Aluminium Years and saw a new generation of super-fast luxury yachts leaving Baglietto’s increasingly advanced production sheds. This next generation of Baglietto’s also featured some of the

A top management reshuffle welcomed Diego Michele Deprati as Baglietto’s CEO, Fabio Ermetto as CCO, Luca Ghirlanda heading Operations, Guido Penco as Technical Director and - perhaps most interesting for prospective yacht owners - a completely revitalised superyacht lineup, which today include the DOMLine, TLine, FastLine, SuperFast Line and the latest addition to their proposals, the Bzero project (B RAISED TO ZERO), which confirms Baglietto’s vision and its strong commitment towards increasingly sustainable and eco-friendly yachting. As of December 31st, 14 hulls are under construction in Baglietto’s La Spezia and Carrara shipyards, with 7 orders secured in 2021. In 2021 Baglietto delivered 3 fully custom vessels: MY Run Away, PANAM, and 54m C. With four T52 sold and under construction, it’s clear that the new generation of Baglietto yachts is oozing appeal.

Revealed in December 2020 was the addition of the 52-metre displacement T52 model to Baglietto’s popular displacement TLine, which now includes models ranging between 52 and 65 metres in length. Francesco Paszkowski Design was responsible for both the exterior and interior design, with the interior undertaken in collaboration with Margherita Casprini. One of the most interesting new features of the T52 is her standard hybrid propulsion system, allowing for a more efficient navigation mode and ultimately reducing costs and environmental impact.

The T52: Baglietto tradition reimagined

With the latest addition to the TLine coming in at below 500 GT, featuring the addition of a three-level beach club and hybrid propulsion as standard, it’s clear Baglietto meant business with their revitalised range of yachts.

When it comes to the design, Paszkowski may come as no surprise to those familiar with the Baglietto brand. In fact, Paszkowski has been one of the yard’s most constant designers over the past three decades.

sky lounge on the upper deck can be opened on three sides for a vast open space, while the sun deck measures 24 metres - impressive for a yacht of this size. A unique moving flooring system can conceal the large pool extending the deck space when not in use, while other features include a lower deck spa, complete with a sauna and a fully equipped gym with an open sea terrace.

“I consider Francesco Paszkowski as our artistic director”, CEO Diego Michele Deprati explains as he defines Baglietto’s relationship with the Italian designer. “His style represents our tradition, and the tradition is part of our success. Since the 90s, Paszkowski has been interpreting the Baglietto style and soul, and most of the Baglietto yachts in the last 30 years bear his signature”.

With four hulls sold in 2020 and 2021 (with the third T52 started on speculation), the all-new T52 brings the best of Baglietto tradition into the future in a way that appeals to shifting trends in luxury yachting.

DOM Line

“The T52 is a real exercise of technology and architecture that we developed together with Francesco Paszkowski,” agrees Deprati. “A yacht below 500 GT that draws inspiration from Baglietto’s tradition - preserving its most classical stylistic features but reinterpreting it in a modern, contemporary key. These features, her versatility and her green heart, are the keys to the success of this Line”.

In addition to the success of the T52, Fast and SuperFast lines, the DOM line of superyachts designed by Stefano Vafiadis is also proving to be an attractive offering to yacht owners. The idea of a home away from home lies at the core of this series of aluminium cruisers, with all aspects of the design centred around the modern yacht owners’ functional and lifestyle needs.

The second T52 (known only as hull 10240) was sold in July 2021 and is scheduled for delivery in 2023. As seen in the entire line, the stern has been completely restyled and is now open, with a beach club on three different levels. The

“We started working on the DOM project while I was CCN’s CEO”, says Deprati as he discusses the evolution of the DOM Line. “From the very beginning, when Stefano and Giorgio Vafiadis presented to me the first rendering of the DOM 123’,

I felt a strong emotion and connection with this model. From that very moment, we decided to start with this project.

During the construction of the first model, together with Fabio Ermetto, we felt we had to add something more to give the project a new dress. And then we started the construction of the DOM 133.”

The DOM 133 combine contemporary exterior lines inspired by automotive design and boast generous interior volumes coupled with large open-air spaces. The first DOM 123 Run Away was delivered to her owner in 2020, while the first DOM 133 is scheduled for delivery in 2022.

The DOM 133 is offered with a propulsion system that combines traditional diesel engines, e-motors and batteries depending on operational needs. The result is a reduction in consumption and environmental impact while increasing overall efficiency and onboard comfort. Powered by twin CAT C32 engines, she reaches a top speed of 17 knots, while in diesel-electric mode, the DOM 133 achieves an autonomous range of up to 7,500 nm and can stay 10 hours at anchor while powered only by her batteries.

of the centralisation of the activities such as purchasing, accounting, HR, etc. Now we can count on two facilities under the Baglietto brand, one in Tuscany (in Carrara), where we build yachts up to 40 meters in length and the headquarters in Liguria (in La Spezia), where the production of yachts over 40 meters is located. After mostly one year, I can consider the merger a success as we have significantly reinforced the Gavio Group’s Yachting Division.

DMD: “CCN and Baglietto’s range of 40/50 meters were slightly overlapping since 2017. Thus, it was quite a natural choice to avoid possible ambiguities in the market. Also, this allows us for higher efficiency and to take advantage 97

SD: “2021 has seen Baglietto secure an important number of new orders, including the T52 and the Dom Lines. How have 2021 and 2020 sales and interest been affected - if at all - by the pandemic?”

undertaken between 2035 and 2050 to reduce emissions.

Refit activities have always represented an interesting part of the yachting business. Yet, I have to say that the worldwide process of decarbonisation and sustainability will significantly affect how to do it going forward into the future. This is particularly regarding the propulsion system, as we expect the traditional combustion of diesel engines will be superseded in the coming years.

DMD: “I believe that nothing happens by chance! For sure, the pandemic caused unexpected reactions in the yacht market, with an unpredicted improvement in the yachts demand. And the whole yacht industry is taking advantage of this situation. On the other hand, I am convinced that the reliability of the Baglietto shipyard and the updated production, both in terms of design and technology we presented to the market, makes the real difference. Since mid-2020, we have been working a lot on this purpose, investing a great effort in preparing the DOM and T52 lines, and now we can see the results of such efforts. And we expect to double the results obtained till now with such models by the beginning of next year”.

For this reason, we have created a specialised ‘energy department’ within Baglietto, which is now studying a shore hydrogen plant for the production of green energy.

The prototype will be operational next year. This is the first preliminary step for a hard stress test before installing it on board the first motor yacht scheduled in 2025. I have no doubts the future of our industry will be “electric and hydrogen. To be ready is mandatory”.

SD: “What is currently under construction at the yard?”

SD: “Sustainability is an increasingly critical topic in all industries. What are Baglietto’s sustainability goals for the future?”

DMD: “14 yachts are under construction, 5 of which have been sold in the first six months of 2021. There are two military crafts under construction for the Italian navy we are building under the Baglietto Navy flag. We have tripled our contracts portfolio compared to 2020, and we expect

SD: “September was a busy month for Baglietto, attending Cannes, Genoa and Monaco. What is the significance of being able to kickstart events and connect with clients again?”

DMD: “I have to say that I am happy to go back to normality after two years. However, I feel that something has changed in the meantime and these events, too. I think that events are now more oriented to concreteness and essentiality due to the difficulties of moving and gathering. I am positive because this situation represented an excellent opportunity to go back to basics and enhance the professional level of these kinds of events. In any case, we were thrilled to be back and to be able to show our latest generation of yachts”.

FROM RECORD SALES TO RECORD LAUNCHES. 2021 WAS A SUPER YEAR FOR THE ITALIAN YARD. BUT HOW DID THEY FACE THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC? HERE THE INTERVIEW TO THE PRESIDENT OF SANLORENZO’S SUPERYACHT DIVISON.

U

nless you have been living under a rock during the course of 2021 so far, anyone with even a passing interest in superyacht news will have clocked Sanlorenzo. Hitting the headlines by announcing its eighth sale in two months at the end of July 2021 and completing a record-breaking three launches in just 15 days from its La Spezia-based shipyard – the fourth and fifth units of its 44.5-metre Alloy superyacht model and the sixth

52Steel respectively – it certainly looks like last year was very kind to the Italian shipyard.

With a heritage spanning back as far as 1958 and headquartered on the banks of the river Magra in Ameglia, Sanlorenzo is known for the made-to-measure customisation of every yacht it builds, having launched around the region of 1000 yachts over its half-century lifespan so far. Climbing up the Global Order Book ranking over the past few years, Sanlorenzo frequently finds itself amongst the highest positions for the top 20 builders of yachts over 24 metres and currently ranks in the second spot.

Weathering the storm

surveyors all around the world. Ending the first few months of 2021 in the position we are in is something that would honestly have seemed completely improbable to me just one year ago”. And the results of this willingness to adapt are writ large in Sanlorenzo’s order book.

As Rossi says: “We signed a contract for a 50m+ yacht which the owner had only seen through video calls, a virtual tour and through the sharing of documents online. The tools which we have developed are actually very effective. In the last few months, we have signed eight superyacht contracts, which is quite an outstanding result already, and we also have a couple of LOIs signed that we are working on already.

People have confirmed to me that they were coming to the Monaco Yacht Show to keep an eye on a particular boat: we have clients who are focused very precisely on some of our models”.

But even a behemoth builder in the league of Sanlorenzo is not immune to the consequences of, say, for example, a global pandemic. As Ferruccio Rossi, President of Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht Divison explains: “We definitely had a difficult 2020, mostly due to the surprise effect of the lockdown.

We had to reassess our whole production schedule and organisation in order to deal with the pandemic.

We are a truly international business, so the problems with travelling were a real issue for us. Simply managing the working relationship with surveyors and clients from all around the world has been an incredible challenge, as you might imagine”.

No surprises there. As the world sunk into lockdown and the future was tainted with a tangible sense of uncertainty, how could a shipyard possibly survive and keep all of those vital build orders coming in? The answer: by being adaptable and embracing all that technology can offer to find new ways of selling its superyachts.

Of course, this is not the first time that the superyacht industry has had to find ways of coping with global unrest and unpredictability. As Rossi highlights: “This is an industry that suffered enormously following the 2008 Lehman Brothers’ collapse and then the financial crisis of 2012 in Europe. But every crisis can bring forward good opportunities and you can see from the press coverage it is that not just Sanlorenzo, but all of the main players are having a very positive time at the moment, so we are really happy”.

Digital dreaming

“At the end of the day, we managed to adjust to these new circumstances quite rapidly, and 2021 has been an incredible year for us so far because we managed to organise both our production and our overall organisation in a way that is compliant with the new set up”, explains Rossi.

He continues, “It is now totally normal for us to work through Microsoft Teams and we also do this with our clients and 103

Cloud 9: out of this world

Ethereal elegance

That said, of course, a yacht can have the most painstakingly planned layout in the world, but if the interiors aren’t quite right, this can have a huge impact on owners’ and guests’ overall experience on board. Thankfully, in this domain too, the five-deck Cloud 9 comes out on top.

Amongst the Sanlorenzo superyachts to have enjoyed a successful delivery during 2021 was one of particular significance for the Italian builder: the 62-metre Cloud 9.

Cloud 9 is the first hull of Sanlorenzo’s 62Steel model, coming in just two metres shy of its largest model to date, the 64Steel, whose first hull was delivered back in 2019 under the name of Attila. Sanlorenzo already has two additional units of the model which are currently under construction: the second and third hulls are due to be delivered in the autumn of this year and in early 2023 respectively.

Francesco Paszkowski describes the design process behind the yacht: “Creating the interior design for this 62-metre was an exciting process. Our long-standing collaboration with the shipyard and our knowledge of the owner, for whom we had already designed a 46-metre in the past, allowed us to move into uncharted territory and create interiors with a distinctly contemporary feel, in collaboration with Margherita Casprini”.

Margherita Casprini – who was also responsible for penning the understated and elegant styling of 64Steel Attila – Cloud 9 represents something quite special to her builders and owner, in part, because of her particular layout configuration.

He adds: “Materials such as marble, stone and oak are combined with glass and leather, and Made-In-Italy brand furniture coexists with custom furnishings designed by our studio. Working with high-level professionals, an important shipyard and an experienced owner is always a very rewarding experience”.

Rossi explains: “Following our flagship Atilla, the 62Steel is our second model over 1000 gross tonnes, with a GT of 1300.

Up until a few years ago, our range was still just up to 500 GT. With the 62Steel, we have the ability to offer our clients an entire deck that is dedicated to the owner. We have a lot of clients who want to stay in the Sanlorenzo family, but who are looking to move up in size”.

This modern styling manifests itself in the use of floor to ceiling windows – now part and parcel of any respectable contemporary superyacht – which can be found across three of Cloud 9’s five expansive decks.

The colour palette is best described as both neutral and natural, with subtle tones from oak, Jerusalem stone and ebony creating a soothing atmosphere on board, with marble, glass and leather used throughout her interiors. The warm, rich grain of the ebony has a glossy finish and is used to cover some of the furnishings.

He continues, “The 62 metre allows them to have the upper deck purely dedicated to the owner, and have their guests on the main deck. The lower deck is home to two very large garages, the crew quarters and so on. This arrangement is quite a unique feature for this size of boat”.

world experience, thanks, in part to the large transparentbottomed swimming pool found on her main deck aft – now a standard feature of all Sanlorenzo’s superyacht projects.

The transparency of the pool allows light to flow down into her generous 92 square-metre full-beam beach club, thus reinforcing that feeling of continuity and cohesion between the decks. The beach club opens on three sides and comes equipped with a water level lounging area, fitness centre, hammam and a bar, alongside three folding terraces aft and to either side.

The large main saloon includes a formal dining area with seating for 16 guests and is styled in warm, earthy tones, with large-full height windows bringing the natural world inside and establishing a true sense of continuity between the vessel’s exterior and interior spaces.

For adventurous guests who are keen to get out on the water, two tender garages are housed midships and are home to her main nine-metre tender, service tender and jet skis.

Located in the heavens of Cloud 9, on the upper deck forward, the 215 square-metre private owner’s apartment is accessed via elevator, with 180-degree panoramic views on offer. As highlighted previously by Rossi, unusually for a yacht of this size, the upper deck is solely dedicated to the owner for the ultimate in privacy and luxury. The suite itself encompasses

Powered by twin Caterpillar 3,512 hp engines, the yacht can reach a top speed of 16.5 knots, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles while cruising at 12.5 knots.

Q&A with Ferruccio Rossi

With health and wellbeing increasingly top of the priority list for today’s owners, the terrace offers a versatile space that can be used equally for working out with gym equipment, relaxing, meditating or entertaining.

In addition, the onboard massage room can also be converted into a staff cabin, with up to 14 crew members also housed on board.

Following 18 months of disruption from the dreaded ‘C’ word, we get the inside scoop on what’s going on behind shed doors in La Spezia and discover Sanlorenzo’s plans for the future, thanks to Ferruccio Rossi, President of the Superyacht Division.

FR: “The pandemic has been a reminder that yachting can be a safe haven in such a disruptive environment. A lot of people are now asking to have a robust internet connection and to have the ability to work from the yacht, allowing them to have a better balance between business and private life.

This enables them to enjoy time with their families”.

German company Siemens on finding the best solution for this. Finally, as we speak, we are also developing a larger dimension diesel-electric superyacht, as there is more and more interest in that direction from clients”.

SD: “What else are the owners of today looking for from their superyachts?”

SD: “What have been the most successful models from Sanlorenzo in recent years?”

FR: “As well as the social element I mentioned before – finding a better balance between work and family – at the same time, owners want to be perceived as people who care about our world. The reduction of carbon footprints is something we are working on, not only with our use of propulsion but also harnessing more recycled materials to reduce the weight and therefore the consumption of each vessel.

FR: “Seven Sins, our first 52-metre is a real icon and is very well known all around the world. Mostly because she has been extended in length, and has crossed the Atlantic back and forth eight times. I like to mention this boat too because I know the owner very well, who acts as a fantastic ambassador for our brands all around the world”.

SD: “What have you got on the drawing board in the next few years?”

If we want to continue this trend, we really need to make a big step forward in reducing our carbon footprints. The

FR: “We are currently working on what we call the bridge to our composite division: the X-Space, which is a new generation of vessels. This is a 44-metre yacht in steel and aluminium, with the first two deliveries expected in early 2023. It is very generous in volume too because it is 495 GT, and so very close to the 500 GT limit.

yachting industry is not huge, but we can leverage on the huge investments that are happening, particularly in the automotive sector and can definitely benefit from these. It is important for us to adapt quickly and implement these innovations into yachts. At Sanlorenzo, we are working together with key partners who are big players in the automotive industry in order to rapidly implement these technologies that they are already testing on the roads on board our superyachts.

This boat combines the success of our explorer line – the long range and autonomy and the sense of freedom – with very generous space and ultimate comfort which is more typical of the more classic yacht. It is a combination of the two and for us is a very strategic model because we have a number of clients that are coming from composite builds. We see this as the perfect first step into the superyacht division for our existing client base.

All in all, when it comes to this topic of finding a better balance in life and a better balance between the utilisation of available resources, I really believe this is going to be a critical trend going forward. Every shipyard should take care of this from now on, and we are really paying a lot of attention to this at Sanlorenzo”.

Both exterior and interior design is penned by Luca Dini Design & Architecture. Outdoor spaces ideal for conviviality sit at the heart of the guest experience. Each section or zone is aimed at providing the flexibility of enjoying various daytime activities underpinned by an easy flow of movement, such as sunpads that transform into a comfortable seating and socialising area at the bow, and shading solutions on hand wherever needed.

Interior style

The interior is clean, bright, harmonious and coherent.

Central to the design is the large full-beam owner’s suite forward on the main deck, which encompasses a significantly sized, private, fully equipped gym positioned within the suite.

Spread over 18sqm it contains full-sized fitness equipment.

In the owner’s en suite, a hammam is paired with a classic wooden bathtub made from ash, and a double shower. Large slabs of marble feature throughout all the bathrooms.

Bar and dining facilities are set up both indoors and outdoors.

“The owner wanted the larger formal dining table to be outside for al fresco meals with the family – this is the area they dine at the most – and the option of a second smaller table in the main salon”, says De Carlo.

On the lower deck, four further guest cabins reside, including a king-size VIP and a twin with Pullman berth. K2 welcomes a total of 11 guests, and a further 11 crew.

Team Italia’s multitouch dashboard, designed in collaboration with the Palumbo Superyachts team and the captain of K2, was built with safety and manoeuvrability at the fore, providing the captain with adaptability in any sea condition.

K2 answers her owner’s brief for a sporty yacht with sexy aesthetics and thrilling speeds without compromising on comfort and range, as well as being in line with displacement type vessels when cruising at economic speeds.

Contemporary materials have been selected throughout.

Exotic woods, such as ziricote and Tanganyika Frisé, contrast with reflections of lacquer and stainless steel details, together with the soft textures of leather, stitched detailing (which nod to the owner’s keen eye to the classic and tailoring tradition) and fabrics, all of which create a tactile and sensual ambience on board. Every surface has been considered, even down to the cappuccino-coloured onyx and white Lasa floor mats used in the guest bathrooms. The owner’s input was integral to the design, working with the designers to select loose furniture from established design houses, with a predilection for the Fendi collection. Pops of colour are gifted in the selection of textile materials, with a strong masculine imprint.

A 6.5m Castoldi Jet tender 21 is stored on the bow, along with a crane for easy launching. A second tender and Seadoo watercraft are positioned astern of the lower deck, launched and hauled through a side opening in the hull.

For guests looking for the latest generation in entertainment, K2’s system, developed in collaboration with Videoworks, is more than it delivers. To allow external connections, two VSAT Sailor 900 High Power antennas have been installed to enable full satellite signal reception at all times regardless of location. When available, K2 is futureproofed to switch to 5G technology.

The generous beach club benefits from a transformer platform with a 4sqm pop-up accessory automatically raising when the platform opens, creating a generous relaxationentertainment area for sunbathing or fully submerged with step access to easily get in and out of the water.

With 11 yachts currently in build across Palumbo Superyachts’ five shipyards, including an 80m from ISA Yachts built on speculation, K2 is a striking example of what its future releases promise to come.

From a technical perspective, a reduction in noise and vibrations levels has been achieved in the guest rooms, even when travelling at speeds in excess of 20 knots. Powered by two 2000 HP MTU engines, K2 reaches a maximum speed

T

he glamorous 1950s image of Brigitte Bardot draped seductively at the helm of her Riva Super Florida on Italy’s Lake Como is an enduring one. It instantly rocketed the wooden boat builder to Hollywood status, supported by a durable reputation for classic style and artisanal craftsmanship. Over half a decade on, and Riva’s recent launches remain as dedicated as ever to deliver on its promise of impeccable aesthetics, the finest materials and coveted Italian flair.

The 56’ Rivale and Dolceriva are Riva’s two newest models in its OPEN series. With a focus on cruising in comfort, the 56’ Rivale features a functional fixed Hard Top with carbon fibre detailing. It aims to satisfy the needs of owners by offering a spacious main deck shaded by awnings. Steel handles on either side serve as handrails. Optional air conditioning is built into the structure. And for those who desire it, the awnings can also be added to cover the cockpit and forward lounge creating a single covered area that runs the entire length of the boat, from bow to stern.

OPEN Series

The Hard Top is a design element born from the needs of Riva’s international client demographic, and one that is especially popular in the American market where average local temperatures are high. It was first seen on the Dolceriva, made from carbon-vinyl ester hybrid composite material for lightweight, strength and stiffness, and forming an evolutionary part of the entire OPEN range.

More than a visually appealing addition, the Hard Top ensures both the 56’ Riva and Dolceriva retain sporty personalities. The Hard Top is the result of collaboration between Italian businessman and member of Riva’s Product Strategy Committee, Piero Ferrari, designer Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana Design (the firm that has designed the entire Riva fleet for over 25 years), and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

All the 56’ Rivale’s key features sit in unison with Riva’s brand DNA; polished mahogany interiors and teak exteriors are connected by lacquered surfaces, mirror-finish stainless steel and fine leather. Even the hull colour is entirely Riva Shark Grey with Bright Black detailing. Placing the owner at the centre of the design, the 56’ Rivale is a neat partnership between style and function.

The stern garage accommodates a Williams 325 tender protected by a carbon fibre hatch. The swim platform features two sets of steps that partially submerge to provide easy access when guests wish to enter and exit the water. The aft section of the cockpit is fitted with a generous sun pad, while the deck lounge gifts forward-facing seating, and an L-shaped sofa and table. Further sunpads are found on the bow area. Riva signature details are scattered throughout the boat paying tribute to legendary models of the past, such as an external pilot chair upholstered in the ochre and white Morbern leather from the Prodigy line.

Inside, a glass skylight and large windows in the hull fill the interior space with natural light. The main socialising space, which easily accommodates all six guests, is the lounge-dinette, where mirrored surfaces alternate with polished mahogany, dark lacquer finishes and dark leather upholstery.

The master stateroom and VIP cabin forward, each with en suite, are paired with a double cabin with two bunk beds served by a bathroom that is also used as a day head. There is also the option for this third guest cabin to be replaced with a crew cabin if required.

Owners can fine-tune their performance requirements, too, choosing between the standard pair of 1000 mph MAN engines, which provide a top speed of 35 knots and a cruising speed of 31 knots. Alternatively, those looking for a few extra knots can stick with the pair of 1200 mph MAN engines that come as standard with the 56’ Rivale Hard Top. Powering the yacht to a top speed of 38 knots, they afford a cruising speed of 34 knots.

Aside from speed, most owners may also choose to request a Seakeeper stabiliser to be installed to minimise rolling at sea and at anchor.

Much like the 56’ Rivale, the new Dolceriva Hard Top oozes timeless beauty. As a 48-foot open motor yacht, it strives to redefine its market segment thanks to a number of unprecedented characteristics. These include a new exterior design developed by Officina Italiana Design, which has “ushered in a new style philosophy” for all Riva models. It speaks to an optimised use of onboard space, a blend of Riva’s trademark features and an automotive-inspired vibe. In essence, it’s what Riva describes as “a sportier interpretation of the idea of luxury”.

The rounded stern pays homage to Riva’s Ariston and Tritone models, while evoking the rear of a luxury sports car. The hull window line ascends towards the deck, leading to a new hull-deck coupling system whereby the aft area, freed from the fender bar, features a carbon-fibre air vent with a steel frame. The windshield made from innovative spherical crystals features a slight counter-curvature, something the builder states will become a Riva hallmark.

Forward on the main deck is a built-in skylight, which allows the cabin below deck to receive swathes of natural sunlight. Glossy mahogany exterior features are twinned with classic white maple seams, a detail that is absent from the Dolceriva’s interior. And the chrome-plated aluminium alloy casing, completed by a mahogany mast flying the Riva pennant, is reminiscent of the fittings found on models of the past.

As for the interior layout, the luxurious open space is refined by a chic use of mirrored surfaces, leather elements, and steel and lacquered woods with both matt and glossy finishes. The owner’s cabin is located forward, with a central bed, two walk-in closets and storage trunks. A second double cabin has two separable beds.

In terms of performance, the model can reach a top speed of 40 knots, with a cruising speed of 35 knots. The optional manoeuvring joystick features docking mode functionality for easy handling in confined waters, and on request, a driving mode function that allows the Dolceriva to be piloted exclusively through the joystick.

SPORTFLY Series

In 2020, amidst a pandemic, Riva introduced two new models in its SPORTFLY series: the 88’ Folgore and Perseo Super. Presented at the Ferretti Group Private Preview, the 88’ Folgore, heir to one of the brand’s top best sellers, showcases a mixture of style, technology and innovative materials.

Built from composite materials with carbon fibre reinforcements in the superstructure, the Riva 88’ Folgore is entirely focused on efficiency with a design developed specifically to embrace materials like marble, crystal glass and stainless steel. The Dolceriva design language set by Officina Italiana Design continues to hold true. This is most evident in the new design of the hull windows, reminiscent of a black brushstroke along the silver side of the yacht and in the spherical windscreen. The first 88’ Folgore unit also shares the 56’ Rivale’s classic Riva Shark Grey hull with Bright Black detailing, while the mahogany and steel detailing, combined with carbon fibre elements, epitomises the perfect balance between old and new.

Unique to the 88’ Folgore, however, is the glass roof in the superstructure, which swings open both towards the stern and the bow to allow fresh air in, either when cruising or at anchor. Under the roof is a slatted structure that separates the interior and exterior spaces if desired.

The standard solution is a fixed roof. In addition, the stern door swings open into two different positions: parallel to the waterline for use as a spacious beach club or submerged for launching and recovering the tender. The extra length in the 88’ Folgore provides a garage that can house a Williams SportJet 395 and a jet ski.

The 20msq SPORTFLY offers the owner even more ideas for ways to relax in comfort, with a big sunpad plus sofa in the stern, another sofa with a coffee table, and further seating on the starboard side. The helm station with its stainless steel inserts is centrally positioned in the bow with a pivoting backrest and two 16-inch touchscreen displays. And al fresco dining is king on this model, with a huge dining area in the cockpit. It features a sofa that can be transformed into a sunpad by operating the up-down mechanism that raises and lowers the polished mahogany tabletop.

Entered via the cockpit, the open space lounge has an unimpeded view of the sea. Two-metre high ceilings run throughout this deck, rising even higher on the lower deck for the ultimate in guest comfort. Alongside the classic Riva materials, a mix of polished rosewood, combined with pale and dark leather inserts and white parquet give the boat style and contrast.

Accommodating eight guests in four cabins, the full-beam 20msq owner’s suite is positioned in the centre of the yacht. Clients have the option of three different layouts, however the first unit is fitted with version A: one large owner’s bathroom, a walk-in closet and vanity table. Loose furniture chosen by the owner, including a Poliform brown leather chair, a black-painted steel Frank coffee table by B&B Italia, and a silver armchair by Minotti give individual flavour to the suite. The entire aesthetic is complemented by a floor, shower and basin in the owner’s bathroom finished in white and gold polished Calacatta marble. The standard version has a smaller bathroom and two walkin closets, while option B offers the possibility of two bathrooms with separate services and a single central shower, in addition to the walk-in wardrobe.

The first Riva 88’ Folgore is fitted with a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines rated 2,638 mph, for a top speed of 39 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots. The standard propulsion solution is a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96 engines rated 2,435 mph, which drive the yacht to a top speed of 36 knots and a cruising speed of 30 knots. In addition to Xenta electro hydraulic steering gear, a LOOP integrated dashboard and manoeuvring joystick, the 88’ Folgore also has Dynamic Positioning System and Humphree dynamic trim interceptors to offer maximum comfort at anchor.

As appealing as the 88’ Folgore is, when it comes to SPORTFLY yachts loved by owners around the world, the multiple award-winning Riva 76’ Perseo is hard to beat. But that’s exactly what the new 76’ Perseo Super is trying to do. Riva’s Perseo has a long-lasting record of success. That said, the first Perseo Super unit successfully sold, and was delivered to her owner at Riva’s La Spezia facilities in May 2021, ahead of the official debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

With an overall length of 23m, over 40 sqm of glazed surfaces on the hull and in the superstructure characterise the yacht’s sleek profile. Integrated into the yacht’s aerodynamic lines, the sun deck offers a place both to relax in total privacy and to pilot the boat from a privileged position. Forward, the central section of the second helm station is flanked by sofas on both the port and starboard sides.

The refined combination of sand-coloured oak and light or dark lacquer is a distinctive feature of the entire main deck, as well as of the yacht’s interiors as a whole. Owners also have the option of rosewood as an alternative. Likewise, in the standard layout, the 76’ Perseo Super accommodates guests on the lower deck in three cabins, all with en-suite bathrooms, but owners can request a fourth cabin to ensure optimum comfort and liveability. Completing the lower deck is a small lounge with separate galley, while the entire area features high quality acoustic insulation, with supplementary soundproofing in all the forward and aft walls of the owner’s suite.

With four new models floated on the international yacht market, Riva has earned the opportunity to sit back and take stock of its position. However, in an industry where new build inventory is at an all-time high, the Italian manufacturer has instead chosen to go back to its roots. The Riva 68’ Diable, Riva’s latest launch, is a diamond among a range of open yachts under 21m, a segment in which Riva is the recognised leader.

Unveiled to the industry in July 2021, the 68’ Diable is once again penned by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, working in partnership with the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

Featuring the new Hard Top, with a clean, linear design that hides the technical and technological equipment from sight, it also boasts a sunroof with a two-way opening mechanism. The cockpit furnishings include two big sunpads, one in the form of a chaise-longue at the water’s edge, and one that can be shaded together with the dining area by an automatic powered Bimini system built into the Hard Top.

Matching the Dolceriva’s top speed of 40 knots, the 68’ Diable is described by Riva as possessing a “best-of-breed” bow area for its abundance of space, offering owners maximum freedom and relaxation to enjoy a classic Riva in all its ways with family and friends.

Recognizable creation

Keen to keep guests entertained at night as well as by day, a fire pit with an integrated waterfall has been installed on the aft deck to provide just the right amount of heat for guests who want to enjoy their meals al fresco at the dining table just a short distance away.

At the time of the delivery to her owner, the yacht was certainly one of the German shipyard’s most recognizable creations, with a design characterised by her glistening golden exterior and striking Jaguar figurehead on the bow.

Some years later, it was 2019 when Kismet was featured in the 2019 Netflix film “6 Underground” starring Ryan Reynolds.

Featuring the pioneering styling of the acclaimed Espen Oeino, the exterior of superyacht Kismet has been gracefully shaped in order to meet the owner’s brief for a yacht which would be a premier entertainer. Built with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, she is sleek, and replete with all of the amenities necessary for satisfying the modern charterer.

The interiors have been designed to be compelling and distinct. Created around the “Champagne & Caviar” theme, Reymond Langton Design studio has organized both social and private spaces to stay suitable whether guests are throwing a glamorous party or just relaxing with a few drinks.

One such conversation point regarding her exterior is the mosaic tiled pool with an inset Jacuzzi on the upper foredeck.

Due to its position, this Jacuzzi affords guests the perfect observation platform from which to overlook the sea and coastlines whilst underway or at-anchor.

The interior of superyacht Kismet features a double-height main salon which spans the main and upper deck aft.

Reached via a sweeping staircase, flanked by two full-height video walls, this area is infused with a colour scheme and architecture reminiscent of the Art Deco movement. Indeed, the juxtaposition of blacks and golds creates a strikingly luxurious ambience which is perfect for indulging both afterhours champagne and morning coffee.

For those who prefer to remain dry whilst taking in the sights, four Stidd chairs have been strategically placed around the Jacuzzi in order to provide the same scope without obstructing the view of those taking a soak.

Another uniquely impressive addition to the exterior is the secondary helipad on the foredeck which nicely doubles up as a basketball court, whilst the helipad on the bridge deck is easily converted into an exceptionally relaxed outdoor lounging area.

Greener alternatives

The garage has a double purpose, it can be used to store her impressive range of tenders and toys but also as a spot for some waterside aerobics and yoga. Superyacht Kismet is also fully prepared for the more adventurous guests who are keen to get out on the water and in amongst the action.

With an eye for greener alternatives to standard engineering, superyacht Kismet is equipped with an innovative ‘closed loop system’ which allows the pool, Jacuzzi, and other sources of water to be heated via her exhaust, yet further evidence that she is a yacht at the forefront of design.

Nicely flexible, guests can have jazz tunes coming from the grand piano if they’re entertaining, or light one of the two fireplaces if it’s a more cozy vibe they’re after. The skylounge, meanwhile, exudes a more casual atmosphere thanks to its beach house style decor. Yet, with a large sports bar that opens out across the vast deck aft, the space easily transforms into a disco nightclub.

Located on the lower deck, a fully dedicated spa area features both a beauty salon and gymnasium to take care of guests whilst they’re away on vacation. Consistent with the intricate design work found elsewhere on-board, this space boasts hand-crafted and commissioned artwork, tailored furnishings, and incredibly soothing textures to create an effortlessly relaxed ambience.

The owner’s suite of superyacht Kismet occupies the forward half of the upper deck. Featuring his and hers bathing rooms, room-size wardrobes, and even a private Jacuzzi, this suite comes with a personal office for attending to any necessary business whilst away on vacation.

As a custom displacement yacht, Kismet also features ‘at anchor stabilisers’ which work at zero speed, increasing onboard comfort at anchor and on rough waters. With a cruising speed of 14 knots, a maximum speed of 17 knots, and a range of 6,000nm from her 220,000 fuel tanks, she effortlessly marries performance with luxury.

The two generously sized VIP suites on the main deck reflect the Art Nouveau influences which can be traced in the interior social spaces, whilst the remaining staterooms adopt Art Deco and Japanese themes to provide a stunning array of sleeping options.

Kismet offers a wide range of possibilities for enjoying some activities, from the cinema screen on the foredeck to the party-friendly and spacious main salon and other lounging spots.

Espen Øino was also the designer of the owner’s previous Kismet (a 68-metre built at Lürssen in 2007, sold by Moran Yacht & Ship in 2013, and now named Global). A year after launch the owner realised he wanted something bigger.

“The brief was clear: the new yacht had to be superior in all respects”, said Espen.

As said by the designer, the client was very much involved in the external design of the yacht. The external design appearance was penned in Chicago and some elements of the exterior were inspired by the city’s skyline. The interior design team at Reymond Langton also worked on the previous Kismet.

A particular emphasis from the owner’s side was on Kismet’s potential not just as a family cruising yacht but as a charter yacht and as somewhere that could be used for corporate entertaining. These aren’t necessarily incompatible drives, but it does sharpen the design focus, and it means that the outside spaces and the inside guest areas have to brook no compromise, with relaxed and sociable areas alongside more intimate and curated spaces.

The overall design philosophy inspired to “a rich contemporary interpretation of Art Deco themes” include bold geometric shapes and vivid contrasts. This contemporary style with a modern art vibe works for small and big elements. If we exclude the giant video walls, we might have been whisked back for a moment to the first-class lounge of a 1930s liner.

There is another staircase too (opposite which is a lift to take you from the main deck to the sundeck), which frames the elegant lobby areas on the main and owner’s decks, but it’s the main staircase that serves as not only a visual feast but as a division point of the different areas. The staircase rises over a piano bar, with a more formal lounge and bar, and a welcoming lobby, aft of that.

Between the main deck foyer and the piano lounge there is a cinema room with overhead projector and semi-circle of seating. The space also doubles as a cigar room and sports bar – a further example of Kismet’s multifaceted charms.

The guest suites at main deck are divided into three twins (convertible to doubles) and two VIP cabins forward. On the lower deck, there is an extra guest cabin, as well as a gym and superb wellness areas, including an ice fountain.

Mosaics and styling details gives the environment a touch of Zen and of the mystical east to the yacht, while a sea terrace to starboard opens up the guest space. The spa is one of Kismet’s standout areas, and is proving particularly popular with charter guests.

Powered by 2 x 3,600kW engines, Century X will deliver a range of 6,000nm with a gross tonnage of approximately 4,550.

With an estimated build time of 48 months, Italian megayacht builder Fincantieri has been selected for the build of Century X, in part due to the success of previous collaborations between the two namely on the Griffin Series but also largely due to Fincantieri’s sizable 110m technical platform.

Speaking about the project, Ocean Independence sales broker, Michael Gräff, said: “With the option for a totally exclusive owners' deck, Project Century X really can deliver the ultimate in privacy. With an extraordinary host of facilities, equipment and great spaces available, this thrilling project is a very exciting proposition indeed.”

As to the project's main specifications, Century X has a beam of approx. 16 metres and a draft of approx. 4.30 metres (4.60 full load). The yacht can accomodate up to 4 tenders (2x 11 metres and 2x 7 metres).

In terms of speed, Century X can reach a top speed of 19 knots, cruising at 16 knots. Cruising at 12 knots, the yacht can cover 6000 nautical miles, with her gross tonnage of approx. 4550 GT. Excluding polar waters, the yacht can operate in an unrestricted sailing area.

Designed to be built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the yacht is equipped with four pools, one on aft main deck, two on forward deck and one at upper deck, each with mosaic inlay.

The transom area is designed with a large beach club (approx. 165 sqm) with double bar offering leisure area for guests with direct access to swim platform area, a wide bottom-hinged platform, tender mooring at port and starboard side, waterfalls, day heads and shower room. The swimming platform area can be enlarged by incorporating an extendable platform.

Guests are welcome at main deck in a spacious lobby and lounge seating area. The luxury round staircase and central positioned round shaped guest´s elevator serve four decks, with a separate staircase connecting bridge deck and top deck. The main deck also integrate the dining area and bar corner.

Also the owner’s deck (approx. 550 square metres) is designed with a saloon and various lounging areas, dining area and a bar. The full beam owners suite, with his & hers dressing & bathroom, has a private office, a library, and private lounge. At bridge deck we find the cinema lounge with a bar while the top deck is dedicated to the fitness and wellness areas with sauna and massage rooms.

The superyacht will have space for a crew of 27, including a massage room with professional therapist.

Guests, accomodated in six large luxurious guest cabins on main deck, can also step on board through the lower deck, via bottom-hinged platform with tender mooring facility which provides direct access to all other luxury areas.

A full entertainment system with satellite TV/ audio and video on demand/ internet is available in saloons, guest cabins and in the owners’ areas.

Lürssen remains very discreet when it comes to yachts under construction or its clients. To promote the sustainable technology of the future, Lürssen has developed an innovative, climate-neutral yacht model called Alice, which shows what a Lürssen yacht could look like in the future.

The new 98m yacht concept was presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2021. Designed inhouse by the German yard and with the interiors created by Dasha Moranova Designs, Alice is an emergence into a new era. Right now she remains a model, but one that paves the way.

Alice is climate-neutral. An emission-free fuel cells generates electrical energy based on hydrogen reformed from green methanol. The fuel cell replaces the conventional diesel generators on board. For higher speed and energy demands, an additional methanol engine is added.

Energy saving technologies, such as waste heat recovery utilisations, recover heat emissions for use within the HVAC system, for both heating and cooling-purposes. This is complemented by mirrored glass windows around the owner’s deck where reflecting the heat serves for thermal insulation and reduces energy load of the air conditioning systems.

Jim Sluijter – Lead exterior designer at Lürssen - gives an insight into his thoughts and ideas for the design of Alice. Lots of yachts have hull and superstructure connected to each other.

This project shows the two parts separated by an interesting exterior deck, where natural elements, such as green, growing trees and water, occupy the scene.

As explains Jim Sluijter in an official video released by Lürssen and available on YouTube, “lots of owners said they do not really use the main saloon, and what you end up with, is this, a boat with a really long share line, no main deck, and everything else happens above it”. That’s why they created a yacht with no main deck but an open-air space to dedicate to all the outdoor activities, such as tennis, for example.

elivered by seasoned Dutch shipyard Damen Yachting as part of its SeaXplorer range back in November 2020, with exteriors penned by Azure Yacht Design and interiors by the French studio, Vasiliy Shprits, the 77-metre expedition yacht oozes adventure out of every pore. Fully IMO compliant and sporting an ice-classed steel hull, La Datcha was designed for global exploration from the far east of Russia to the Antarctic and is able to reach some of the world’s most remote locations. Alongside her suitably expansive inventory of onboard equipment – including two tender garages, a dive centre and three-seater submersible and two commercially certified helicopters – La Datcha can weather sustained periods out at sea with ease, thanks to her impressive storage for provisions and fuel capabilities which enable her to last up to 40 days between ports without a break.

The 1,250-metre long Kamchatka Peninsula is located in the Russian Far East and offers over 104,000 square miles of largely unpopulated land, encapsulating the wildness of Russian nature in its rawest form. A welcome break

Full height windows found on the observation lounge, main saloon and the owner’s suite enable guests to enjoy breathtaking ocean views, with the upper-deck observation deck serving as the ideal spot for uninterrupted orca watching.

All of these practical considerations behind her design, do not mean, however, that La Datcha leaves anything to be desired in regards to superyacht style and luxury in her interior styling or amenities. Although her ice-classed steel hull admittedly cuts a somewhat rugged figure, the interiors of this custom vessel offer a sophisticated and relaxing retreat from the excitement of all of those outdoor adventures. Springing from the drawing boards of French studio Vasiliy Shprits, the contemporary furnishings and muted colour palette help to create a calming atmosphere, whilst retaining a sense of understated elegance and glamour.

On board La Datcha

Besides the crew, there is also an expedition crew who have great knowledge of the Kamchatka region. They can guide the guests throughout the region, explaining the history of this primal land. The idea of this explorer superyacht is to combine comfort with adventure. As a result, the expedition yacht is fully equipped for a variety of activities that are done in the most luxurious way".

To lift the curtain on what life is really like on board this truly extraordinary vessel, we speak to Ekaterina Pavlova, Senior Charter Broker at Imperial, as well as current captain, Alistair Reid to discover their take on the success of the yacht’s maiden summer season, their insights on what a typical La Datcha guest might look like, and learn more about the upcoming plans for future expeditions.

SD: "How would you describe the kind of guest who chooses to charter La Datcha rather than a more conventional vessel?"

Alistair Reid: "They are ready for adventure and always on the go. Every day offers a new sight and challenge for our guests".

SD: "What makes La Datcha unique as a charter yacht experience compared to others on the market? Please describe her standout amenities/notable features".

SD: "How has this season been for La Datcha’s charter?

How has this been affected by COVID-19, if at all?"

EP: "La Datcha is not just a superyacht but a true explorer vessel. Currently, she has no competitors in the market.

Only a handful of superyachts have their helicopter on board and she has two readily available for any excursion, which can transfer guests to remote areas in any location that we are in.

Speaking about her current charter destination Kamchatka, one of the main activities is heli-skiing, where guests are flown to the top of the volcano and they ski down the mountain. The helicopters are a great feature as they provide countless fun activities. In addition, they can also move equipment such as barbeques for a fantastic set-up on top of a volcano or transport small tenders to inaccessible lakes so guests can fish.

AR: "The first season has been in Kamchatka and we have been busy! By the end of the season, started in April, we will have completed fifteen charters. We had no issues with COVID-19 onboard. Regular PCR checks and onboard procedures have minimized the risk".

SD: "What activities can charter guests expect to experience onboard and on the water?"

EP: "We have a wide array of toys: submersibles, Seabobs, jet skis... Many superyachts carry these toys, however, our experience is unparalleled. Jet skiing in a ring of volcanos? No other yacht can provide this type of experience to their guests".

SD: "Where in the world is La Datcha able to travel, thanks to her exploration capabilities?"

I have to say, managing the weather is by far the most challenging aspect of my position".

SD: "How would you describe your crew?"

AR: "They are adventurous team players. This type of program cannot work without that type of crew".

SD: "Where would be your dream destination to take La Datcha and why?"

SD: "What makes Kamchatka so unique as destination?"

AR: "It would have to be Fiji or the Pacific islands in general.

I visited as a cadet 20 years ago and I would love to go back".

AR: "It is different to any other destination. The wilderness,

Adventures in Antartica

DAY 1: BOARDING Embark on your flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island. If you like, there will be an opportunity to visit Russia’s Bellinghausen base which is located near the airstrip. Head to the waterfront via transfer and board your expedition vessel, where you will be briefed on the safety and landing procedures by guides and leaders. Get familiar with your crew and new surroundings and let the adventures begin!

DAY 2: SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS

DAYS 5 AND 6: THE DANCO COAST & GERLACHE STRAIT

Located at the northern tip of Antarctica, on the edge of the Drake passage, the South Shetland Islands are truly out of this world. Bursting with wildlife, including penguin colonies, seabirds and seals, you will feel like you have stepped into a David Attenborough documentary, so don’t forget your camera! If you are interested in learning more about the nature in this extraordinary place, and its history of sealing and whaling, you can visit some of the many research stations located on the islands.

Rich in peninsulas, inlets and bays and faced by numerous islands – including Bryde Island, Lemaire Island, Danco Island and Murray Island – the Danco Coast houses some of the most picturesque spots in the whole Antarctic Peninsula and it is well worth spending a couple of days here to make the most of your time on board your yacht.

Here you will enjoy breathtaking natural views, including mountains over 2,000 metres high and a landscape characterised by vast and jagged coves and stunning icebergs. To get your nature fix, head to the gentoo penguin colonies or learn more at one of the numerous active research stations.

DAY 3: DECEPTION ISLAND

Ever wanted to sail into the caldera of an active volcano?

Well, Deception Island is the only place in the world where you can do just this (the volcano last erupted in the 1970s).

You have to know how to find the entrance to this bay, which is said to be the warmest place for a swim in the

With its spiky blue icebergs, mountains and humpback whales, the Gerlache Strait is bound to stay in your memory long after you return to shore.

Antarctic. Head to the fascinating Port Foster once you are inside, which is a perfect stopping off point. As well as a history of shore-based whaling, the island is also home to the largest chinstrap penguin colonies in the region.

DAY 7: SOUTH SHETLAND TO PUNTA AREAS

As you bring your Antarctic superyacht charter to a close, it is now time to say your goodbyes to the hard-working crew and expedition staff who have looked after you with care and attention on your excursions and made this a truly unforgettable, and life-changing, charter trip.

DAY 4: ANTARCTIC SOUND

No trip to Antarctica would be complete without visiting the affectionately named ‘Iceberg Alley’, where chunks of iceberg drift and flow north from the Weddell Sea (never fear, your Captain will take extra care when sailing through this area!). Make sure you take the opportunity to visit the Adelié penguin colonies on Paulet Island or Devil Island and keep an eye out for the breeding flocks of emperor penguins that are found at Snow Hill Island.

Your yacht will return to South Shetland and anchor off King George Island in preparation got your flight back to Punta Arenas. Ensure that you are prepared for an overnight stay in Punta Areas and onward travel home on the next day, as exact flight times can be uncertain to the weather in the area.
