Aerobic exercise is physical exercise of relatively low intensity that depends primarily on the aerobic energy-generating process. Aerobic literally means "living in air", and refers to the use of oxygen to adequately meet energy demands during exercise via aerobic metabolism. Generally, light-to-moderate intensity activities that are sufficiently supported by aerobic metabolism can be performed for extended periods of time.

In music that progresses regularly in 4/4 time, counted as "1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 ...", or “1 2 3 4, 5 6 7 8 “ the first beat of the bar (down-beat) is usually the strongest accent in the melody and the likeliest place for a chord change, the third is the next strongest: these are "on" beats. The second and fourth are weaker - the "off-beats". 8 beats are one phrase.

Aerobic dance could possibly be classified into high-impact and lowimpact, step aerobics. High impact exercises, would involve intensive exercises such as jumping actions synchronized with the music.
