International The State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) is the State University’s only institute of technology. The college is located on hundreds of acres in Marcy, N.Y., and within four and five hours of New York City and Philadelphia. More than 2,800 students are enrolled in graduate and undergraduate degree programs in technology, professional studies, and the liberal arts. Scholarships and Financial Assistance All full-time undergraduate applicants meeting the following criteria will be reviewed for a transfer scholarship immediately following acceptance to SUNYIT: First Year Students • SAT scores of 1100 or better (critical reading and math combined)
• Overall grade point average of 85+ from high school or secondary school • Awards range from US $1000 to $4500 per year for a maximum of four years Transfer Students • Completion of at least 30 university credits after secondary school graduation • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better Awards range from US $750 to $2000 per year for a maximum of two years. Transfer scholarships are awarded on a first-come basis – early application is strongly encouraged! Graduate Students • Assistantships are awarded each academic year to selected st udents ; they are competitive • Academic record, test scores and an assistantship application are used to select recipients Awards may include a tuition waiver (of various amounts) and/or a cash stipend. Students receiving assistantships are required to work in their academic department.
Admissions Requirements Admission to SUNYIT is competitive and based on academic qualifications, proof of financial support, recommendation letter(s), and English language proficiency as determined by the TOEFL, IELTS and STEP. Proof of language proficiency is not required if you are a U.S. university graduate.
Minimum scores required: TOEFL 79 (internet based test) 214 (computer based test) 550 (paper based test) IELTS 6.0 (undergraduate) 6.5 (graduate) Additionally, first year students must present SAT scores (or comparative ACT scores) of 900 or better when combining the critical reading and math sections. Some graduate programs require the GRE or GMAT exam and have specific prerequisites. Academic Qualifications (may vary by program) • Generally, a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA by US standards from high school or secondary school is required for undergraduate first year admissions • Generally, a 2.7 or higher cumulative GPA by US standards from university coursework is required for undergraduate transfer admissions • Generally, a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA by US standards from university coursework is required for graduate admissions; proof of a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent is required prior to enrolling • Transcripts and academic documents must be translated in English. Some applicants may be required to submit transcripts to a foreign credit evaluation service such as World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) for evaluation.
International Student Services The Office of International Student Services provides immigration services, initial and ongoing orientation programs and general support to the international population.
• Helps students maintain their status in compliance with immigration regulations and apply for the immigration benefits for which they are eligible. • Offer Workshops throughout the semester on topics relating to living and working in the United States. • Assist students in finding and participating in part- and full-time Curricular Practical Training and Optional Practical Training related to their studies.
