PROJECT 1: Building Analysis and Design Composition STUDENT PROJECTS

Once an essential part of architectural education (particularly the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris), the Analytique is a unique way to communicate the essence of a building in a condensed abbreviated manner. It consists of a series of architectural drawings composed to draw the viewer successively closer to the building through a series of visual “layers.” These layers begin with architectural details in the foreground (and largest in scale) thus rendered to appear closest to the viewer. The layering continues through carefully selected and composed “screens” of representative parts of the building (elevations, plans, details, or perspectives) drawn at incrementally smaller scales. The purpose of the Analytique is to have students look at buildings with a more critical eye. The following images are Analytiques drawn by the 3rd year architecture students here at SUNY Delhi ranging from buildings in the village of Delhi to historically significant buildings of the renaissance period.
