Each year, we test and select the most innovative and strong bedding plants. This requires a lot of patience, accuracy and moreover, love for our products. At our site in Leimuiderbrug, we have modern greenhouses as well as nice

fllower fields, where our experts take care of our potential introductions. We’ll pay attention to multiple innovative qualities such as colour, shape and flowering behaviour. Our plants need to be strong, resilient and resistant to various weather circumstances. We also keep the ease of use in mind, as consumers desire plants that are care-free, easy to maintain and do not require a lot of water. Lastly, we’ll select our novelties on market potential, originality and trendiness. Once introduced, we’ll help our partners to effectively market our products by offering them ready-to-go brands and free POS materials. All our varieties are protected by trademark, plant variety rights and patents.

ABOUT US

MNP MNP is known for breeding, testing, selecting and introducing new and innovative bedding plants of the highest quality within Europe. Since 1989, MNP have managed the European rights, and is the master licensee, for all products of the Japanese breeder Suntory Flowers Ltd. KEY BRANDS

MNP built an extensive brand portfolio over the years. We add new varieties to our existing brands and every so often, we will introduce an entirely new brand. We aim to inspire and surprise you. Below you will find a selection of our champions.

CORE ACTIVITIES

core activities

10

Breeding The roots of our products lie in Japan, Vietnam and Australia, where Suntory Flowers Ltd. has its research locations and a team of professionals passionately working together to create perfect plants for every garden and balcony. Talented scientists with hearts for flowers, develop new species and improve varieties in flower labs. A specific task that requires a lot of attention, expertise and accuracy. MNP sets out a breeding strategy with

the end consumer in mind, what would they buy, love and admire? Suntory’s experts breed novel plants according to this strategy while also making sure that they breed the highest quality. New or improved, colours or shapes, sometimes bigger, always better. The end result? Bedding plants that are easy to maintain, flexible and weather resistant and moreover, stunning to look at.

merk

Testing & Selection MNP is the European licensee agent for all of Suntory’s novelties. We are highly specialized in deciding which plants are most suited and ready to conquer the European market. We extensively test and select new products. Plants need to be tested in various climate circumstances. That’s why we’ll test, test and test some more.

Moreover, we aim to introduce such novel products that it will create new markets within the bedding plant industry. Requirements that need to be met by our novelties are earliness, sturdiness, floriferousness, weather resistance, colour consistency, growth and more.

CORE ACTIVITIES

We make sure that every introduction we do, is superior to any other resembling variety out there.

11

CORE ACTIVITIES

Branding & Marketing When the final selection is made, our specialists decide which varieties will be introduced. Varieties that didn’t pass will either be re-tested or get entirely dismissed. All our products have a story and something that makes them special, so that’s why we find it very important to get that story out there by building brands around new varieties.

12

The marketing department is the creative heart of our organization. To perfectly position new products we conduct market research to identify the end consumers and their corresponding preferences. The novelties are given a (brand) name and we think about the aesthetic and design aspects. We develop a brand story, a brand logo, labels, pots, leaflets and an online platform, to present the brand in a 360°-marketing manner.

This means, we can benefit from each other and establish a continuous growth and improvement of our business and breeding strategy every year. MNP supports it partners by creating free marketing concepts, arranging free publicity and PR, safeguarding plant quality, future breeding activities etc. As we always aim to build strong, sustainable brands that will help us to increase our market share, we encourage you to join our success. We happily support the sales of our products throughout the whole chain, whether you’re a propagator, grower or retailer. Are you (thinking of becoming) our partner? Know that you’re always welcome for a cup of coffee and a fruitful chat! Want to know more? Contact us at hello@mnpflowers.com

CORE ACTIVITIES

Sales & Support Our most important activity is bringing our new varieties (novelties) to the professional market. MNP introduces new varieties three times a year: during the IPM, the FlowerTrials® and the Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair. We also welcome (potential) partners to visit our main site in Leimuiderbrug. Our partners can run test trials or add new introductions to their assortment straight away. Plants of MNP and Suntory® are protected by trademark and plant variety rights, therefore a small licence fee has to be paid for every plant sold. But partners will get much more than just the ‘rights’ to grow & sell our products. We work closely together with our licensees. We visit them as much as possible, not only to consult with them about propagating and growing specific varieties, but also to listen and learn from their experiences in the field.

Surfinia® celebrates her 30th anniversary. It has been many years since we introduced the groundbreaking plant onto the European market and built the Petunia brand Surfinia®. But so much has happened since... With her strong garden performance, spectacular free flowering habit and her superior weather tolerance, the Petunia was an instant success. The ‘first Petunia from cuttings’ took over the flower industry and became an all-time favourite.

As we proudly celebrate the 30th anniversary of Surfinia®, we are encouraging all our partners, retailer and consumers to put Surfinia® in the spotlight and join our revolution in which we celebrate the whole bright and colourful collection! We have a lot in store for you this year as we’ll be running a celebrative Surfinia® campaign. We’re inviting you to work with us, offering free POS materials, content, photo’s and fresh ideas. The Granvia® collection puts a smile on your face right away when you touch her petals for the first time. Because yes, you will want to touch her. Her papery and dry petals make it almost hard to believe that the Granvia® flowers are organic and alive. Granvia® is a collection of Xerochrysum (bracteatum) with very big and long-lasting crispy flowers. There are multiple bracteatum on the market, but the Granvia® variety is stronger, has better branching, blooms earlier and has huge flowers. Granvia® is day neutral which makes her easy to grow. Granvia® is such a versitile plant she is suited for eastern campaigns, summer sales and even for autumn advertisements. When talking Xerochrysum, we believe bigger is always better. The flowers of Granvia® are certainly bigger than other Xerochrysum out there. But the very best thing about Granvia®? As long as frost stays away, she will bloom all year round.

Improved Now we come with five improved varieties, which we like to call “the new generation of Surdiva®” and more colours are coming soon! They are very compact, have very good branching and a lot of flower power. They’re slightly more mounding in comparison to the usual trailing habit of the Scaevola. Moreover, their propagation rate is improved. The improved Surdiva® range can also be used for mixed baskets as she performs well when combined with other plant types. Her flowering lasts till late in the season as she loves endless summers. Lastly, she’s resistant to heat & rain and can be used both as an inside or outside decoration.

SURDIVA | SCAEVOLA

The Surdiva® collection is elegant, arty and always in style. The fan shaped flowers that grow on short terminal spikes are distinctive, classy and hint to art deco. Surdiva® is a range of nicely coloured Scaevola, one of the most heat tolerant bedding plants in the world. And although diva is in her name, she’s very low-maintenance. Surdiva® has a mounding, semi-trailing habit with manageable growth and shows super continuous flowering. Hence, the Surdiva® collection is highly versatile and has a very wide range of uses: from ground covering to hanging in baskets, or planted in pots and balcony boxes.

SUNPUMA | IPOMOEA

var. SunTun 1

Purring for purple. The Sunpuma® Purple is a striking plant with unique qualities that are very unusual for Ipomoea. As she is truly as flexible as the mountain cat, she can be used as either a trailing plant or as a climber. Where the normal Ipomoea is a trailing plant, the Sunpuma® Purple is both trailing and upright growing. Another unique attribute of the Sunpuma® is her flowering. Unlike other Ipomoeas, Purple shows an amazing quantity of pinkish flowers with an impressing size for this genus. That makes her also very suited to make a statement all by her lonesome.
