An Evening of Live Music, Food And American Pride
Cheers To 30 Years

for three decades.
This year, the festival pays tribute to its roots with a tion, transporting guests back to 1996; the year the Las Olas Wine and Food Festival’s magic began. 250th Anniversary. Rather than focusing solely on historical reflection, this event highlights how American culture continues to evolve—through music played on open-air stages, recipes passed down through families, and communities gathering under the same sky.
The Soundtrack of the Evening
At the heart of the festival is its music—a lineup that taps directly into the roots of American blues while keeping the sound alive and relevant.
Headlining the evening is The Harden Project, known for their electrifying performances and rich, layered sound. Their music blends traditional blues influences with modern energy, creating a performance that feels both nostalgic and immediate. Expect powerful vocals, intricate guitar work, and a rhythm section that keeps the crowd moving.
Joining them is Adam Uhlan and Band, whose style leans into the raw, emotional core of blues music. Their set promises storytelling through song—gritty, heartfelt, and deeply connected to the genre’s origins.
Together, these acts offer more than entertainment. They provide a living tribute to a uniquely American art form—one that has shaped everything from rock and Jazz to modern pop.
As the music fills the evening air, it becomes clear: blues isn’t just something you listen to. It’s something you feel in your chest, in your footsteps, in the collective rhythm of a crowd swaying together.
Smoke, Spice, and Serious Competition
Of course, no Blues & BBQ festival would be complete without the barbecue—and in Dania Beach, it’s not just food. It’s a full-on sensory experience.
From the moment guests arrive, they’re greeted by the unmistakable aroma of slow-cooked meats, smoky and rich, carried on the coastal breeze. Pitmasters from across the region will fire up their grills and smokers, each bringing their own signature techniques, sauces, and secrets to the table.
Spectators get to enjoy the best part— tasting the results. A variety of food trucks will offer everything from classic comfort fare to creative culinary twists, ensuring there’s something for every palate.
It’s a reminder that barbecue, like blues, tells a story. Every spice rub, every slow turn over the flame, every carefully guarded recipe reflects a piece of American heritage.
A Festival for Everyone
While music and food may be the main attractions, Dania Beach Blues & BBQ is designed as a true community event—one where everyone feels welcome.
Families will find plenty to enjoy in the dedicated kids’ zone, where younger guests can play, explore, and experience the festival in their own way. From games to interactive activities, it’s a space that ensures the next generation can be part of the celebration.
For pet lovers, the event is dogfriendly, making it easy to bring along four-legged companions for an evening out. And with free admission, the festival remains accessible to all—an important detail that reinforces its community-first spirit.
Even logistics have been thoughtfully planned. Free parking and a convenient ride service from The Casino at Dania Beach make attending the event simple and stress-free.
Marking 250 Years—The Local Way
Across the United States, the 250th Anniversary is being commemorated in countless ways—from national ceremonies to historical exhibits. What makes Dania Beach’s approach stand out is its
focus on living culture.
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
hours.
Rather than looking only to the past, the festival highlights how American traditions continue to thrive today. Blues music, once born from hardship and hope, now serves as a universal language of expression. Barbecue, once a regional staple, has become a nationwide symbol of community and celebration.
In Dania Beach, these traditions aren’t preserved behind glass—they’re experienced in real time, shared among neighbors, and passed along through moments like this.
It’s a reminder that history isn’t just something we remember. It’s something we continue to create.
The Setting: Coastal Charm Meets Community Energy
There’s something uniquely special about experiencing a festival like this in South Florida. The tropical climate, the ocean air, and the laid-back atmosphere combine to create a setting that feels both relaxed and vibrant.
As evening falls, string lights flicker on, casting a warm glow over the festival grounds. The hum of conversation blends with the music, punctuated by laughter and the occasional cheer from the crowd.
It’s the kind of environment where strangers become friends, if only for a few
In a world that often feels fast-paced and disconnected, events like Dania Beach Blues & BBQ offer a chance to slow down—to savor not just the food, but the moment.
Why Events Like This Matter
At its core, Dania Beach Blues & BBQ is about connection.
It’s about the connection between past and present, as traditions are honored and reimagined. It’s about the connection between artists and audiences, as music becomes a shared experience. And most importantly, it’s about the connection between people—neighbors, families, visitors—all coming together for a common purpose.
In celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary, the festival doesn’t try to define what the country is in a single narrative. Instead, it embraces the diversity and richness of American culture, showing how it can be expressed through something as simple—and as powerful—as a song or a meal.
Planning Your Evening

A Night to Remember
As the final notes of the evening fade and the crowd begins to disperse, what lingers isn’t just the taste of great barbecue or the echo of a guitar solo. It’s the feeling of having been part of something meaningful.
Dania Beach Blues & BBQ 2026 isn’t just an event on a calendar. It’s a reflection of what makes communities strong and culture enduring. It’s a reminder that even in a world of constant change, some things remain beautifully constant: music that moves us, food that brings us together, and the simple joy of sharing both with others.
In celebrating 250 years of America, Dania Beach isn’t just looking back. It’s inviting everyone to take part in the ongoing story—one song, one bite, and one unforgettable evening at a time.

ten to enjoy so many experiences at my concerts over the years,” he says. “I’m not touring any more, but I like the idea of still being able to give people an opportunity to have a ‘Good Time’ and enjoy some great country music while they do,” he adds, invoking the spirit of another hit from his career. Jackson is excited to welcome fans to Five O’Clock Somewhere Festas he launches the event…and he’ll mark the end of his touring career in late June at a soldout stadium concert in Nashville.
The festival goal is to capture the vibe of the triple-platinum, CMA and ACM Award winning song that spent more than two months at the top of the charts in the Summer of 2003. The popularity of “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” has endured ever since, as people far-and-wide continue to embrace its carefree attitude and celebratory vibe.
The festival’s first-year location not only reflects all that – it’s the region where Jackson filmed the classic music video for the song and where he once had a home, enjoying the area’s coastal lifestyle, boating culture, and vibrant community that makes South Florida unique.
“After 15 years of working with Alan, I’ve seen how much the beach lifestyle and that ‘Five O’Clock Somewhere’ mindset mean to him,” says longtime Alan Jackson Tour Manager and Peachtree Entertainment’s CEO Nathan Baugh. “It’s not just a song –it’s how he lives. This festival is a natural extension of that. At Peachtree, we focus on creating real, memorable experiences, and this one is special because it’s rooted in Alan’s story and a place he’s always loved.”
“Today’s travelers are increasingly planning trips around signature events, and Alan Jackson’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Fest is a perfect example of how music and place can come together to create an unforgettable experience,” says Milton Segarra, CDME, President and CEO of Discover The Palm Beaches, the tourism marketing organization for Palm Beach County. “This festival captures the laid-back spirit and coastal warmth that define our destination. We invite attendees to stay longer, explore more, and embrace The Palm Beaches lifestyle embodied by this signature event.”
As part of its commitment to fans, Alan Jackson’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Fest has partnered with StubHub to introduce a safe and secure fan-to-fan ticket exchange, giving fans access to sold-out ticket types and the ability to purchase verified tickets directly through the official platform if plans change. Tickets, festival information, and presale details are available at 5oclocksomewherefest.com, all tickets went on sale on Friday, March 27th, 2026. The festival will also offer a range of VIP experiences, including elevated chefcurated food and beverage offerings, dedicated entrances, air-conditioned spaces, and premium platform viewing options, with more details to be announced.
Alan Jackson’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Fest is destined to become an annual event worthy of the Country Music Hall of Famer’s own past touring career and the musical legacy that’s made him the revered icon he is. This new event that bears his name is the perfect opportunity for anyone who needs a little time off to “just call it a day” and “pour something tall and strong”…and will be for years to come.

Hundreds of local students will have new opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) Classroom Makeover Grant program has selected its 10 winners for the 2025-26 school year. One school in Broward County received a $50,000 grant to transform their classroom into an innovative learning space, igniting a passion for STEM among its students.
“At Sunrise Middle School, where learning truly comes to life, The FALCON’s Nest represents a bold new chapter for our students,” said Denise Calder, Magnet Coordinator at Sunrise Middle School.

Broward Resident Finds Strength In Giving Back
When Shashayne Maxwell walked into the lobby of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital on the morning of December 11th, 2025, she wasn’t just volunteering. She was returning to a place that once supported her family and helped her discover just how strong she could be. Maxwell, who will celebrate her third year with Florida Power & Light Company this July, joined fellow employees and Miami Dolphins cheerleaders at the 22nd Annual Kiss Country Cares for Kids Radiothon. The event raised a record-breaking $344,003—the highest total in the Radiothon’s history—to support the hospital’s mission of providing world-class care to children across South Florida. For Maxwell, volunteering wasn’t just an act of service; it was personal. In 2014, Maxwell’s son began feeling unwell shortly after returning from a summer in Boston. What began as a routine visit to urgent care quickly escalated. Doctors suspected Diabetes and rushed him to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital,
where his diagnosis was confirmed. He was admitted the day before his 12th birthday.
“He spent a week there,” Maxwell recalls. “The staff was incredible. They paid attention to every detail. They basically saved his life.”
Her son spent two days in the ICU before transitioning to the Pediatric Ward, where hospital staff made sure he wouldn’t miss out on celebrating his milestone birthday. They decorated his room with balloons and a handmade banner. A clown rode in on a tiny tricycle. Nurses stopped in with gifts and cheers.
“They made him feel like everything was going to be okay,” she says. “In such a scary moment, they gave him hope, and they gave me hope, too.”
Years later, when Maxwell arrived for the Radiothon, she recognized the clown who helped her son celebrate, now retired, but still volunteering.
“She remembered my son’s name,” Maxwell says. “I couldn’t believe it. You don’t often get moments like that.”
Maxwell admits that returning to the hospital brought a wave of emotions.
“It was bittersweet,” she says. “But I felt compelled to show up and give back to another child who might be going through something just as terrifying.”
As stories from families filled the airwaves during the Radiothon, Maxwell reflected on how deeply the hospital’s work touches the community. With more than 360,000 pediatric patient interactions each year, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital serves as a lifeline for families across the region, including many in FPL’s service area.
“To know that I was part of something that will help those families meant everything,” Maxwell shares. “It reminded me how much empathy and kindness there is in our community.”
Her experience strengthened her commitment to service and community involvement. She credits her family— including her husband, who also works for FPL—and her colleagues for their steady support throughout the years.
“This office is so family-oriented,” she says. “I know I can ask for help when I need it, and someone will be there.” That same sense of care extends beyond the workplace. In 2025, employees volunteered more than 55,000 hours in their communities. Through volunteerism and community partnerships, FPL is committed to powering strong communities and making them better places to live, work and raise a family.
Today, Maxwell balances her career, family and the final stretch of her MBA program at Florida Atlantic University, where she’ll graduate this summer. She says her experiences have shaped her perspective and strengthened her resolve to serve others.
As she reflects on her journey, Maxwell says she hopes others find encouragement in her story.
“There’s always a blessing somewhere, even in the hardest moments,” she says. “Looking back at everything we’ve been through, I know I can do this. And if I can, someone else can too.”

HIJACKING RELIGION
How The Pentagon Turned The Sermon On The Mount Into A War Manual
& Nisha Whitehead
John
The language of modern government is the language of the empire.
It is the language of domination, retaliation, conquest and control—of enemies to be crushed, nations to be subdued, and dissenters to be silenced.
Under the Trump Administration, the language of empire has also been imbued with a religious fervor that recasts Jesus Christ—not as a peacemaker—but as a mascot for power, conquest and control. War has been dressed up in patriotism. Wrapped in Scripture. Called “righteous.” Marketed as “peace through strength.”
But this is not a holy war. It is a political war dressed up as holy.
Despite the pageantry—crosses held aloft, prayers offered from podiums, politicians invoking God while demanding loyalty—the values animating America’s wars and power plays bear no resemblance to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said: Love your enemies. The government says: destroy them.
Jesus said: Blessed are the peacemakers. The government says: blessed are the war-makers.
Jesus said: Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me. The government cages the poor, criminalizes the homeless, bombs the foreigner, and calls it security. This is not a misunderstanding of Christianity.
It is a deliberate rewriting of it.
Consider the prayer offered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at a Pentagon worship service: “Let every round find its mark… Give … overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy. We ask these things with bold confidence in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ.” No mercy. Spoken in the name of the Prince of Peace.
This is not faith. This is blasphemy baptized in nationalism.
It is the hijacking of religion to sanctify violence—the turning of the Sermon on the Mount into a war manual.
It is also an attempt to recast modern warfare as a holy war—sanctioned by God, justified by faith, and beyond moral reproach.
That idea is as unconstitutional as it is un-Christian.
And it raises a constitutional question that should alarm every American, regardless of faith.
The First Amendment was designed to prevent exactly this kind of fusion of church and state power. It protects the free exercise of religion—but it also forbids the government from establishing, endorsing or advancing religion.
There is a difference between religious freedom and religious indoctrination.
There is a difference between private belief and state-sponsored theology.
When government officials invoke God to justify violence, when military power is cloaked in religious language, when prayer becomes a tool of state policy—we are no longer dealing with freedom of religion.
We are staring at the early stages of religious establishment.
History has shown us where that road leads. As Thomas Jefferson warned, the Constitution erects a “wall of separation between church and state” precisely to prevent this kind of fusion of political power and religious authority.
When the government begins to speak in the language of divine mandate, that wall is already being breached.
And more to the point—it is the very abuse of religion that Jesus Himself stood against.
Jesus did not preach “overwhelming violence.” He did not bless the empire. He did not anoint governments to kill in His name.
And yet today, we are told that violence brings peace, domination ensures security, and revenge is strength.
What we are witnessing is not Christianity.
It is Christian nationalism—a counterfeit religion that wraps political power in religious language and calls it holy.
It is idolatry of the nation masquerading as devotion to God.
Christians are not called to identify with power, but to speak truth to power—even at great cost.
Yet today, far too many churches have traded prophecy for proximity to power. They have exchanged the cross for the flag.
And in the process, the message of Jesus is hollowed out. Stripped of its challenge. Neutralized.
Because the real Jesus is dangerous to power. He doesn’t flatter kings. He confronts them.
Jesus was not crucified for being polite. He was executed as a threat.
To the authorities of his day—both religious and political—Jesus was a destabilizing force. He challenged the legitimacy of power built on coercion, greed and violence. He exposed hypocrisy. He disrupted systems of exploitation.
And for that, the empire killed Him.
Crucifixion was not just execution.
It was a warning.
This is what happens to those who refuse to submit.
Which raises a question modern Christians would rather avoid: If Jesus walked into today’s halls of power—into the Pentagon, the White House, the halls of Congress—would He be welcomed?
Or would He be surveilled, silenced, labeled a threat?
Would He bless drone strikes and military parades? Or overturn tables?
Or would he be told, as Americans increasingly are, to comply, submit, obey and defer to authority?
Because the version of Christianity now being sold to the public is not one of resistance to injustice, but one of obedience to power.
The Jesus of the Gospels was not aligned with the empire. “I was hungry… I was a stranger… I was in prison…”
Not: I was powerful, and you defended me. Yet today’s political religion flips that script. It exalts power. It sanctifies wealth.
It demands loyalty to the state. And it calls this inversion of the Gospel “faith.” But Jesus was clear: “Blessed are the peacemakers.” There is no footnote that says—except in matters of national security.
This is the great moral crisis of our time.
Not just that the government wages endless war, but that it dares to do so in the name of God—and too many cheer it on.
The early Christians understood something we have forgotten. Their allegiance was not to Rome. It was not to Caesar. It was not due to the machinery of the empire.
Their allegiance was to a higher law. And for that, they were persecuted, imprisoned, executed.
They did not seek to control the empire.
They refused to conform to it.
Today, by contrast, much of the modern church has become indistinguishable from the power it once challenged.
But the teachings of Jesus have not changed. They still confront us. They still demand something costly. They still refuse to be weaponized for political gain.
So we are left with a choice.
The Constitution was designed to guard against the union of political power and religious authority.
As I make clear in Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, what we are witnessing today is not just a theological failure—it is a constitutional one.

Hope everyone is enjoying Passover and had a blessed Easter. Last week, our City was in the news due to a structural building collapse. I reassured residents and businesses that the incident at 1250 East Hallandale Beach Boulevard only impacted the portico that covers a walk way between the building and garage. Both the building and the garage struc tures remain safe. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, though two empty cars were trapped under the debris.
I have not yet received the complete report about the cause of the collapse. The building successfully passed its 40and 50-year inspections, but factors like age, maintenance, heavy rain, roof drain issues, and nearby construction may have contributed.
An engineering firm has been hired, and the building department inspected the site on Monday. Following the inci dent, I want to clarify the city’s role in the Building Safety Inspection Program. The BSIP is not new, it has been law for years. Since the Surfside collapse there have been changes made.
Inspection now begins at 25-year with milestone re-inspections every ten years have been introduced. BSIP covers both commercial and residential buildings based on their size. Champlain Towers needed repairs, but the condominium board and residents chose not to fund them in a timely manner due to cost. This prompted the change in law that requires reserve study and the funding of reserves.
City building departments oversee the BSIP but do not conduct inspections. Each property must hire a licensed engi neer or architect to inspect and report on structural and operational components. Required repairs are identified in these reports, which are then submitted to the city for review.
If the report identifies a deficiency at risk of imminent failure, our staff will con tact the building to confirm that repairs are underway. They will also inspect the condition to determine if it’s necessary to red tag the building. Not all cases of imminent failure require evacuation.
If the affected component is not part of the main building footprint—such as a parking structure—the garage may be red-tagged until a certified engineer addresses the issue by stabilizing the components at risk. Balconies are another good example.
If remedial work is recommended in the report, the condominium should ini tiate corrective action. Our staff will moni tor compliance with the report, and if the building fails to address the deficiencies, the case will be escalated to code enforcement.
This situation presents significant chal lenges. While many buildings comply with the BSIP, others do not. Some attempt to delay repairs by changing board mem bers or canceling contracts to secure better pricing. Contract regulation does not fall within our purview. Provided that permits have been issued and work is progressing, we refrain from referring to the magistrate hearing. However, lack of progress will result in referral to the magistrate, where additional time may be
granted or fines imposed until repairs are completed. In some cases these items can take years. Olympus Condominium finally completed their work after being the first and only building that was red tagged for their garage. I encourage very unit owners
to understand that these projects do take time and plenty of money. The worst thing to do is delay the work. I have seen many voting boards disrupt progress in hope of stopping the costs. In case after case overall, it ends up being more costly and buildings are put at risk. City Of Hollywood Launches Tri-Rail Corridor Sun Shuttle Pilot Program
The City of Hollywood’s micro-transit service, Sun Shuttle powered by Circuit, has launched a three-phase pilot program to expand service and improve transit connectivity throughout the City. Phase 1 introduced an updated Hollywood West service area, which began in March. The revised service zone is based on findings from the City’s recent transit study and is designed to serve additional neighborhoods while improving access to key destinations and regional transit con nections, including Broward County Transit and the Tri-Rail corridor. As part of Hollywood’s broader mobility strategy, the program will also utilize funding from the FDOT District 4 Service Development Grant to support the phased expansion of the Sun Shuttle fleet. This funding will help add vehicles as needed to meet expected demand and improve service reliability during the pilot project. The three-phase pilot program is anticipated to be fully implemented by the second quarter of 2027. Each phase will be used to collect operational and ridership data to evaluate service performance and guide potential adjustments. The program builds on the City’s existing partnership with Circuit and supports Hollywood’s goal of expanding clean, accessible trans-
