HOW THE DESIGNER’S DID BLACK & WHITE...

F

rom Marc Jacobs to Giles all the designers were getting in line to show off their stripes – the new motif of the season. Every angle, size, width, vertical, horizontal and combination of stripe was seen walking the catwalks of Spring/Summer 2013 and in many cases, from head 2 toe. If you feel that this sort of stripe overload may be enough to make your coworkers or kids dizzy, a nod to the trend can be achieved with a striped accessory such as a shoe or bag.

STYLE NOTE

Some people think that horizontal stripes make you look bigger but ignore this old wive’s tale – the right stripe can be really flattering and even make you look skinnier by disguising lumps and bumps amazingly well!

CHECK MATE

Marc Jacobs brought back the swinging sixties for Louis Vuitton’s ss13 show with bold black and white checkerboard prints

TAILORING

If it all seems a bit too busy for you, monochrome can also be worn in a more timeless way this season with simple, classic tailoring. Perhaps a simple black and white striped top underneath a sleek tailored suit or a black and white panelled blouse with skinny black leather look jeans, and with a bold colour is a way to break it up a bit. There’s a way to wear this trend for everyone.

GLAM

Ruffle dress from Zara, around 83.€ Ideal for women who like a bit of glamour without too much fuss and faff. Team with simple black court shoes and bag to complete the look.

PETITE AND OR LEAN FIGURES

Alternatively this top could be put underneath a chic tailored suit (with skinny, ankle length trousers) for work, or added over black leather shorts for drinks with the girls. 114
