THE HISTORIC GREAT HALL

History buff or not, when you set your gaze on The Great Hall, the stunning architecture and craftsmanship will take you back to 1943 when it first opened as an officer’s club on the grounds of Camp Abbot, a World War II era military training camp. Since that time, The Great Hall has served a variety of uses—from cattle storage to one of the most sought-after venues for conferences, weddings and special events in the Pacific Northwest. Hand built with local pine logs, among The Great Hall’s standout features are the spiral staircase made from a single, 500-yearold pine tree, and two magnificent fireplaces crafted with 10 tons of volcanic rock.

THE BIKE BARN

Originally used as an ammo depot where jeeps and other military vehicles were loaded for military training exercises, today Sunriver Resort’s Bike Barn serves an entirely different purpose. From cruisers to full suspension mountain bikes, you’ll find more than 300 bikes of all types and sizes housed here for riding the 40 miles of paved trails that weave through the resort. Take one for a spin and seek out your own favorite spots in Sunriver.

COTA BIKE TRAILS

Riding bikes is synonymous with Sunriver Resort in the summer. In fact, it’s one of the things people love to do most when they’re here. In addition to riding paved paths that meander along the Deschutes River, through towering pine trees and by the Sunriver Stables, new singletrack mountain bike trails add to the variety of riding available from the resort. The Central Oregon Trail Alliance recently completed 10-miles of new trails that connect Sunriver Resort to the popular trailheads at Wanoga and the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center. Now it’s easier than ever to start and end a cycling adventure here.

RUNNING OF THE HORSES

Watching a herd of horses run free across a wide swath of land isn’t something most people see every day. That’s why the experience that can be witnessed twice daily during the summer months at the Sunriver Stables is so special. It’s here where you can take in stunning panoramic views punctuated by the running of these gorgeous animals as they sprint across the pasture during the morning and afternoon roundup. Although there’s no set time, you’re likely to catch a run sometime around 7:30 a.m. or 4:30 p.m. from the parking lot at the stables or along the bike path.
