327 Jobs Created in Ronda

By Andy Cameron www.rondatoday.com An estimated 327 medium term jobs are to be created in Ronda with the continuing improvements being made to the ring road surrounding the city and Arriate at a cost of 18,500,000 Euros.

Each of the main entrances into Ronda is being redeveloped with money earmarked from Plan Zapatero, the economic stimulus funding intended to keep part of Spain’s construction industry active whilst the economy recovers from recession.

A total of 234 jobs are being created upgrading Ronda’s ring road, with three main projects receiving the bulk of funding, the new overpass on the A-397, a new access road and

underpass on the A-374 near the new hospital, and a new underpass and landscaping at the Campillos roundabout with the A-366 and A-367.

Major construction work is currently being carried out at the A-374 road to Sevilla, with several thousand pine trees cut down to make way for new access slips and an overpass, which it is hoped will remove an accident blackspot.

A second stage at the A-397, which is yet to be approved or funding allocated, would see the road straightened from La Dehesa to La Indiana, and completely remove the sweeping bend, however work on this section may not occur for several years, if at all.

Near the new hospital of the SerranĂ­a where the roads from San Pedro (A-397) and

the road to GaucĂ­n (A-369) intersect, a new 80m long bridge and accessway is being built to improve traffic flow. Currently all traffic enters the roundabout but with construction of the new hospital, traffic is expected to at least quadruple and single lane access from each spur will likely cause driver frustration and delays.

Ronda’s major bottleneck, the Campillos roundabout, midway between the A-374 and A-397, and with direct access to the city on Avenida de Målaga, as well as access to the El Burgo (A-366) and Arriate/Campillos (A-367) is to receive major work, though construction has yet to begin.

A new underpass on the A374 into Avenida de MĂĄlaga is to be built and traffic diverted to improve congestion at this

roundabout.

An additional 93 jobs are expected to be created with a new 6km bypass around Arriate that will give quicker access from the MA-7403 Puerto del Monte in Arriate to the A-367 Ardales road. Arriate’s narrow streets face daily congestion from through traffic trying to reach Setenil or Los Prados, which this new bypass is expected to fix.

Whilst the creation of 327 new medium term jobs is being applauded, local environmentalists are critical of the number of trees being removed to make way for construction at the A-374 Ronda to Sevilla intersection. 14,000 3yr old pine trees planted to give Ronda a green space on the city boundary have been earmarked for removal.

MĂĄlaga Provincial Delegate for Public Works and Transport Dolores FernĂĄndez, on being questioned about the destruction of a green area, stated that all trees and shrubs will be replaced in another location once work is complete, but declined to mention where this would be and if land has been acquired for planting.

Ecologists in Action fear the trees will not be replaced, and that once the projects are completed the task of replanting trees will drag on for many more years until it is eventually forgotten. A petition is being organized by local environmentalists to remind the people of Ronda that an essential green space is being destroyed.

CELEBRITY CHEF BOILING Jean-Christophe hits back

By Nell Glynn nell.glynn@sunnews.es CELEBRITY Chef JeanChristophe Novelli, has hit back at a recent article published in what he has described as “A cheap tacky Newspaper”. The article accused him of improper practice for terminating an agreement, that had been running just under a year, with the Hotel Lorcrimar, in Puerto Banus.

In an exclusive interview Jean-Christophe said: “ I am deeply amazed by what has happened and how myself, staff and customers have been treated, and now certain people are trying to make me to look like the baddie. I have put so much into this restaurant, myself, the staff and my brother had high hopes for this project.”

Jean Christophe went on to say: “Both myself and my brother Anthony have put a lot of time and effort into setting up what was a top class restaurant, I am even more sickend by the fact that our loyal staff - people who have worked with me for many years, as we speak are still waiting for wages that they were promised prior to Christmas.”

The article states that “He walked out on Christmas Eve” when in fact JeanChristophe was not even in Spain on Christmas Eve, and there were never any plans for him to be at the hotel during the Christmas holidays, as he was booked somewhere else in Europe as could be seen on his website.

When Jean-Christophe was first approached by the Hotel Lorcrimar to help set up a restaurant there were certain standards that he insisted must be met, but he claims that the hotel did not keep their side of the bargain and were charging four star

prices for what Jean-Christophe believes to be a three star hotel.

The charming chef believes that the hotel owners cooked up a secret scheme to use his name to sell the hotel for twice its value he said, “I knew nothing of their plans until the second week in December, I was at a party after appearing on the popular television show “Mr. And Mrs” some people had flown over from Spain, and Michelle and I were to delighted to win as the money was going to help the children at the Keech Hospice Care home, just outside Luton. During the party a man came up to me and said: “Where are you going to go next now your restaurant has been sold”? “I

nearly fell over with shock, I took the man outside and asked him what he meant and he proceeded to tell me that the Lorcrimar had been on the market for a while, I quickly realised what was going on, they intended to double their money, which is not bad considering they had only bought the hotel two years previously.”

Jean-Christophe sought advice from his lawyer Dean Dunhan who immediately issued the hotel with an injunction to stop using the Novelli name immediately and stop the sale of the hotel and JeanChristophe is currently suing them for breach of contract.

A press statement was released advising people that he was terminating his contract with the hotel and they were to take all references to him and his name from the premises.

He went on to say: “I am so disappointed, I thought they were such nice people, even so I can honestly say that Melanie Kenyon, who was the operational person of the company, is the rudest most aggressive woman I have ever worked with in my life, and I have met hundreds of women!” He went on to say: “I don’t mind working with people who do not have experience in catering, but there is no excuse for bad manners, especially when you are supposed to be a leader.

“The plans that I had for the future would have brought people from all over the world to the Lorcrimar and Marbella.” Just last year Jean-Christophe’s friend and P.R Max Clifford held a celebrity party at the newly opened restaurant. Jean Christophe said: “What has made me so sad, is that in such a short space of time we built a popular successful busy restaurant that was very lucrative, and it had all been destroyed by greed and lack of loyalty.”

The business is now closed and boarded up, it has gone from such a success to a sad lonely sight.

Jean-Christophe also claims that the hotel owe thousands of euros to suppliers, staff and the hacienda, he told the Spanish Sun: “One day I received a call from one of my chefs, they were in a panic as they said that the people who had installed the kitchen had arrived with screw drivers and were threatening to remove the equipment because they had not been paid.”

Jean-Christophe also told the Spanish Sun: An employee drove his car at the reception screaming and demanding to be paid it was 8.30pm on Saturday and the restaurant was packed.

You’ve Gotta Meet Molly

Leading Polish football club trains at La Cala Resort Legia Warsaw is one of the most successful Polish clubs in history winning a total of nine league championships and a record 13 Polish Cups. It made it to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League European Cup / Champions League in 1970 and was twice in the semifinals, the latter being in 1996.

The current squad contains players from seven countries, including Spain’s Iñaki Astiz Ventura, a defender who hails from Pamplona and the former Manchester United striker and Chinese international Dong Fangzhuo, who is on trial. Dong was the first Chinese player to be signed by United when he agreed terms in 2004.

The club first used the La Cala complex for a training camp last year and Assistant Coach, José Antonio Vicuña (Kibu) from Navarre, says they

returned because of the professional facilities. “The facilities are excellent for a top class professional team and allow us to train in optimum conditions. Additionally, the service we receive from all the staff is excellent. In Poland in January and February, the temperatures reach -25C to 30C and the pitches are covered in snow and it is very difficult to train properly. We are delighted to be able to train in La Cala and we plan to return next year.”

This winter La Cala Resort is also hosting training camps for top teams from Switzerland, Germany, The Czech Republic, The Ukraine and Russia. Apart from the mild winter climate, teams are attracted by the extensive range of facilities and the secluded location that is also near Málaga airport and other major transport links.

Meet Molly She’s a grey speckled pony who was abandoned by her owners when Hurricane Katrina hit southern Louisiana. She spent weeks on her own before finally being rescued and taken to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled. While there, she was attacked by a pit bull terrier and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became infected, and her vet went to LSU for help, but LSU was overwhelmed, and this pony was a welfare case. You know how that goes.

But after surgeon Rustin Moore met Molly, he changed his mind. He saw how the pony was careful to lie down on different sides so she didn’t seem to get sores, and how she allowed people to handle her. She protected her injured leg. She constantly shifted her weight and didn’t overload her good leg. She was a smart pony with a serious survival ethic.

Moore agreed to remove her leg below the knee, and a temporary artificial limb was built. Molly walked out of the clinic and her story really begins there.

‘This was the right horse and the right owner,’ Moore insists. Molly happened to be a one-in-a-million patient.

Molly’s story turns into a parable for life in Post-Katrina Louisiana. The little pony gained weight, and her mane finally felt a comb. A human prosthesis designer built her a leg...

The prosthetic has given Molly a whole new life, Allison Barca DVM, Molly’s regular vet, reports.

And she asks for it. She will put her little limb out, and come to you and let you know that she wants you to put it on. Sometimes she wants you to take it off too. And sometimes, Molly gets away from Barca. ‘It can be pretty bad when you can’t catch a threelegged horse,’ she laughs.

Most important of all,

Molly has a job now. Kay, the rescue farm owner, started taking Molly to shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. Anywhere she thought that people needed hope. Wherever Molly went, she showed people her pluck. She inspired people, and she had a good time doing it.

‘It’s obvious to me that Molly had a bigger role to play in life, Moore said.

She survived the hurricane, she survived a horrible injury, and now she is giving hope to others.’

Barca concluded, ‘She’s not back to normal, but she’s going to be better. To me, she could be a symbol for New Orleans itself.’

CONCERENED residents and business owners have contact the Spanish Sun regarding the possible disappearance of a woman know to them as Natasha.

The last time Natasha was seen was driving up and down the Calahonda strip, and bar owners thought she might have been drunk due to her erratic behaviour. The next day her car was spotted on the corner of the road with her lap top on full view in the back. Her landlady was contacted, and a group of people went to her apartment where they found all her belongings, diary, makeup clothes still hanging in the wardrobe.

That was three months ago, her car still remains illegally parked, but with the window smashed and lap top missing, and she has not returned to her apartment where her belongings still remain. Police have been called but Natasha’s whereabouts remain a mystery.

Natasha is believed to be East European, and thought to have a child in care in Malaga. Do you know what has happened to Natasha?

Millions of Foreigners The national institute of statistics (INE) has registered 5,648,671 foreigners in Spain, which makes up 12 per cent of the total population.

These figures show an increase of 380,000 foreigners, nevertheless it does not take into account those people who were registered but have in the meantime left the country.

These figures don’t include people who are still waiting for their residency to be renewed as well as those who are not registered. The national institute of statistics receives over one million variations every single month of which 800,000 are errors and incidents with regional governments.

The number of foreigners who are “empadronado (registered with the local town hall)” in Spain has increased six fold over the past ten years. The biggest collective with highest presence in Spain are those from Morocco, followed by those from Romania and Ecuador.

Moroccan Man Bares All A MAD Moroccan caused chaos in Malaga city centre when he stripped naked on the busiest road leading into the city. Police arrested the man but hours later he got on to the roof of the police station and threatened to throw himself off. He was taken to hospital for psychiatric evaluation, but has since escaped and is now at large.

A Finer Way to Pay Penalties Expats that have a valid Spanish driving licence and those that have successfully transferred their overseas licence to comply with regulations here in Spain can now pay traffic fines at the touch of a button.

Polls suggest shock upset in Ronda’s 2011 Municipal Elections Could a shock upset in Ronda’s next municipal elections be on the cards? According to a recent poll by Sigma Dos yes, with a majority of voters in Ronda saying they won’t be voting for mayor Antonio Marín Lara’s PSOE in 2011.

In a shocking twist of fate, the popular mayor who urged his Partido Andalucista (PA) colleagues to abandon their party and join the PSOE leading to one of Spain’s biggest political scandals of 2009, may be about to experience what it’s like to upset an electorate who now feel they have no representation.

Sigma Dos, one of Spain’s most respected market research companies conducted a telephone poll of people in Ronda in early January asking who they would be likely to vote for in 2011. The surprising result is that the PSOE won’t be increasing it’s majority, or even maintaining it’s majority despite the addition of the former PA councillors.

In 2009, mayor Marín Lara and 8 PA councillors abandoned their party to join the PSOE in Ronda, thus giving the PSOE an overwhelming majority with 16 coun-

cillors of 21. The remaining seats made up of 4 Partido Popular (PP) councillors and one Izquierdo Unida councillor.

Poll respondents indicated that the PSOE, even with the former PA councillors isn’t likely to increase it’s number of seats by very much, perhaps only 1 or 2 seats, whilst the PP would expect to increase their seats to between 6 or 7, and the resurgent PA returning to council with 5 seats.

All of this makes for murky waters ahead with none of the three major parties expecting a clear majority, and all needing to enter a coalition if they want to govern.

There is no love lost between the PSOE and PA, the latter effectively saying they consider it a matter of honour to defeat Lara and his PSOE cohorts, whilst on the national stage the PSOE and PP are fighting a bitter battle for the hearts and minds of the electorate.

Ultimately politics makes for strange bedfellows, but at this state the PSOE will be hoping to pull in enough seats

to govern alone or with their natural allies of the left, the IU and the greens.

Failing to pick 11 of the 21 seats will presumably see Ronda welcome in a centre right coalition of the PP and PA. Both parties have started electioneering early and approved their mayoral candidates, Mari Paz Fernandez for the PP, and Isabel Barriga for the PA. An all female lead in 2011 is defintely on the cards if these polls are to be believed.

The only wildcard of the election is the Unión Progreso y Democracia (UDyP), a new party formed since the last elections and without any political experience, but who have stated they intend fielding a big enough list of candidates to govern alone if elected.

That’s a big boast, but one that national commentators are taking seriously. If the UDyP can find solid grass roots support for their call to clean up Spanish politics after the worst recession suffered in Spain since the civil war, then all bets are off and we could see some interesting coalitions being formed.

By Tim Knaggs tim.knaggs@sunnews.es Traffic chaos in Alhaurin el Grande and Coín is the order of the day at the moment. Businesses and homes are being disrupted by the closure of two main roads out of Alhaurin el Grande for road works.

The closures will affect the A-404 (2nd – 18th Feb), on the stretch running from Venta Los Chavos until Venta Pedro Lucena and the A-387 (8th Feb for 2 months) which runs from the

Ermita del Cristo de las Agonías until the Venta Los Morenos.

The mayor has reported some alternatives when travelling. Those who have to go to the coast can use the Coin link road at Venta Los Morenos which will open to traffic soon and for these drivers who do not have to go through Coin, the council is considering an alternative route. For those drivers who wish to go to Coín they can do so via the Carretera del Polígono.

The A404 from Los Chavos to Venta Pedro Lucena is now

completely closed with barriers up by Los Chavos. We met a Councillor from the Ayuntamiento de Alhaurin el Grande who confirmed the road closure.

It is intended that residents can still use the road but it was suggested that as the road’s condition could cause problems only make necessary journeys if possible.

The works are supposed to finish on the 18th February (for the A-404) but from experience it is entirely possible it will take quite a bit longer than that. We know some residents are having problems being let through the barrier when they try to go home.

The Coin - Mijas road should be open by 8th February as it’s the scheduled detour for the works being completed on the A-387 between Ermita del Cristo de las Agonías until the Venta Los Morenos.

A lot of local residents are having problems when travelling from Coín to Alhaurin el Grande they have to use the Villafranco road and this closes normally after heavy rain. The only way to get to Alhaurin then is to use the Cartama road then not ideal. The road situation is a bit of a mess at the moment and it looks like the residents will have to grin and bear it at the moment but for those working on the coast it makes it incredibly difficult to make the journey at present.

The Ace come home appeal has been launched. Ace is currently being looked after by his owner’s lovely friends Mark and Mandy in Spain while they relocated back to the UK to find work. He was due to come over on March 4th transported by a company called Posh Pets in

Spain, he ś had jabs, got a passport and deposit for his journey has been paid, they are now trying to raise the remainder of the money. They are appealing to all their friends to donate 2 pounds each or 2,50€ - that’s around 150 friends to help them get Ace back

home to them.

Setting The Scene Having now gardened in Spain for twenty five years we look forward to sharing some of our accumulated experience with you through this new monthly gardening column. We will focus on two things. How to get the best out of your plot of land or apartment terrace and how to avoid the many problems faced by gardeners in Spain. Especially by those previously living in the colder climes of northern and central Europe.

Yes even excellent vegetables and fruit can be grown successfully on apartment terraces.

From time to time we will also focus articles on those with plots of five to ten thousand square metres wondering what to do with dying orchards and salty contaminated soil.

For those with limited ground area the trick is to use moderate sized plants, containers and perhaps raised beds, and use walls fences balustrades and even ceilings of covered terraces to support plants. The many shapes and colours of pots, troughs, hanging pots and window boxes give every opportunity for creating eye catching features with a little creativity.

Thinking of plants do use ones that are easy to acclimatise in the current microclimate of your garden.

Wait until you have established shelter from the hottest suns and strongest gales before investing in the more delicate plants.

Naturally not all readers will be full time residents so some months we will focus on the special challenges of absentee gardeners whether they do all the gardening themselves or depend on the skills and diligence of an unsupervised gardener.

Above all we will focus on enabling you to maximise the enjoyment of your garden. Spanish gardens are to live in for most of the year and not look at through the rain spattered or frosted

windows left behind when moving to Spain. We will balance the objectives for beautiful gardens with the need to conserve water and minimise maintenance as we get older.

HEARTSTRINGS The one that never was...

myself totally at peace with the job I created for myself -- making her feel as comfortable, safe and happy as possible. I thought her eyes revealed that she reciprocated my feelings.

It was not only Marie’s physical beauty that captivated me; it was something infinitely more rare and significant. By my standards, nothing can compare to a person who effortlessly exudes an energy that eases the mind of all stress, while simultaneously enabling all that truly matters in life to be displayed with brilliant clarity and joy. The women I had dated in the past all possessed the attributes I wanted (intelligence, humour, physical/inner beauty and compassion) but those characteristics were never enough to make me content -- I needed more.

I needed a woman with the unique ability to profoundly strengthen and inspire me, a woman who forced

inherent responsibility that a deep connection like that requires? Maybe my instincts were all wrong and she never felt the same way for me as I did for her. Regardless of what the real reason was, I don’t feel any differently towards her or see her in a lesser light. In a strange way I don’t care what the reason was; all that matters to me is that she is happy and safe. Regardless of how much I want to be the one to make her smile like no one else can, I’d be content knowing she is smiling and being treated like gold (as she deserves to be) by someone else.

Even though things turned out much differently than I believed they would, I learned valuable lessons from my experiences with Marie. Truth be told, although I have called Marie “the one who got away,” the fears and hesitations which I believe to have ultimately kept us apart made Marie “the one who never was” more than anything else.

Even though I would love to go back in time and change how things unfolded between us, I have no regrets. I followed my heart, and although she never truly returned my feelings, she deserved the kindness I gave her nonetheless. I learned that when a person as special as Marie comes into your life you owe it to yourself and to her to follow your heart and put it all on the line. Otherwise you’ll allow your fears to restrict your future, leaving you with nothing but memories of “the one who got away” or even worse, memories of “the one who never was.”

Sometimes it seems as if there simply aren’t enough hours in the day in order to do all the things one wants to do. I believe that it is to a large degree for these reasons that we are all more likely than ever to get swallowed up in all sorts of ideas and fashions which on the face of it seem rather appealing and attractive. The shares of the big banks came under special attack.Investors had brought the index up to 12,000 points, but it is now struggling to retain the 11,000.

On Wednesday 3rd of February Ibex lost another 2,27%, especially provoked by the banks. Banco Popular fell 4,59%, BBVA and Bankinter 4% and Santander 3,8.

Will we be excluded from the Euro?

After the harsh comments on Spain’s financial situation by Nouriel Roubini, Professor of Economics at the University of New York, politicians and financial commentators, including some in Spain, are seriously discussing the possibility of the country being excluded from the Euro Zone. A commentator in the leading financial newspaper “Expansion” asks, “Will we be excluded from the Euro?”

The European Commission is preparing a rescue packet for Greece, but a similar measure for Spain may be too great a demand on Northern European taxpayers.

Pension age rise to 67?

As a measure to improve the endangered public finances Minister of Finances, Elena Salgado, has proposed an increase of two years in the pension age

in Spain, taking it to 67.

The proposal has received a mixed reception, with the Minister of Labour saying that the immediate problem is to find work for the unemployed.

Trade unions warn against the proposal and the leftist federation IU has threatened a general strike.

Storm & crisis Spain takes on the Canary austerity measures Islands The cold, wet weather which has affected the Spanish mainland for several weeks has now also hit the ‘sunny’ Canary Islands. A tropical storm brought floods and damage to southern Tenerife, with more than 1,000 lighting strikes in 5 hours, schools were closed and several roads blocked.

There are less tourists and foreign property owners in the Canary Islands this winter. Many restaurants, bars, and supermarkets are empty, due to high prices at a time when the crisis is hitting the population in Northern Europe. British long term tourists especially are staying home due to the fall in the exchange rate.

Following the massive criticism in the Spanish and foreign press concerning the 11.4% deficit in public accounts for 2009, and the subsequent loss of investor confidence, the Government has decided on a package of budget austerity measures, which it is anticipated will shrink the deficit by almost 50 billion euros between now and 2013. However, analysts are sceptical, as one fifth of the adjustments are intended to come from the bloated Regional and Local administrations which were not consulted prior to the program being adopted by the Government. Moreover, one third of the improvement is based on an expected cyclical improvement in the Spanish economy.

Brave Brit Tackles Nutter

By Tim Lewis AN ENGINEER has described the terrifying moment he had to tackle a man trying to force his way into the cockpit of a plane.

Brian Davies, 47, wrestled the man to the ground when he became violent near the end of a flight from Cardiff to the Canary Islands. Mr Davies held the man down with the help of a flight attendant and other passengers until the plane landed safely some 30 minutes later at Las Palmas Airport in Gran Canaria.

Mr Davies and his wife Debbie, 45, from Aberdare, were among 193 passengers on the 8.20am flight out of the Welsh capital on Monday. The couple were sitting three rows from the front of the plane with Mrs Davies’ parents Avril and Clive Jones.

Mr Davies said: “The man was stood at the front of the plane ranting at the flight attendant for ages. We could see he was getting aggressive. “He was speaking in

Spanish but at one point he said to the attendant, in English: ‘I’m not afraid to die. Are you afraid to die?’ “My wife was panicking because we had seen him with a bag in his hand but then couldn’t see the bag. You start to think does he have a bomb or something?

That’s when we started to worry.”

He said two attendants came from the back of the plane with two men, whom Mr Davies assumed to be flight marshals. They turned out to be fellow passengers. “I could see the attendants had cable ties and a restraint and were going to take him down,” added Mr Davies. “They tried to grab him but he was kicking and biting so the attendant called for help. I jumped on his back and put my knee into his back. We struggled to get the cable ties on him because he was resisting so much. I shouted ‘Does anyone play rugby?’ and the other bloke helping laughed. “I said it because I knew we would have to pull his grip at the fingers, just like trying to get a ball from someone, because his arms were too strong.

“I did get hold of one fist and forced his arm back and shouted at the attendant to get me a cable tie and managed to get them on him. “Once we had his arms and legs tied they put him on the front row of seats flat down, but he still managed to headbutt the flight attendant.”

The man, who is from Gran Canaria, was immediately arrest-

ed when the plane touched down.

A police spokesman said they believed the suspect had suffered a panic attack and tried to speak to the pilot. He was later released.

A spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard said the incident was not being treated as terrorism-related. Mr Davies said: “I felt I had to do something but it was instinct – I was not trying to be heroic or brave. My family were there and I would rather have been helping than sitting down wondering if I could have done something.

“Hopefully, it’s a once-ina-lifetime incident. Afterwards I was shaking for a while because of the adrenaline but in a strange way it was enjoyable.” The couple’s daughter Michelle, 24, was told of the drama when the couple phoned home on Monday evening.

She said: “My dad said it was a very scary situation and seemed to go on for a long time, although it only lasted a few minutes. I am very proud of my dad and just so relieved that no-one was hurt and the plane landed safely.”

Confirming the incident, a Thomson spokeswoman said such events were rare.

“Thomson Airways operates a zero-tolerance approach towards aggressive behaviour on board its flights,” she added. “The safety of our customers and crew is the airline’s number one priority at all times.”

How are your relationships with your family, your friends? As a culture we do not have strong relationships the way that we used to. In the past there were very strong communities. Generations stayed in the same area and spoke into each others’ lives. It takes years to build the type of friendship where you can speak the truth and have it received well.

In our culture today we are bombarded with the quick, instant, and fast. Relationships are none of these things, they take time to cultivate.

Being able to share from the depth of your heart takes trust. Trust takes time to build, whether it’s in marriage, parenting or friendship. One sure shortcut to trust that is going through a crises together.

If we invest more of ourselves in the people around us, we will have richer more fulfilling lives. In the long run, with more fulfilling relationships, family (immediate and extended) and friendship we would also be more productive. Sometimes you are in a relationship to be the primary giver. Other times you are the receiver. Other times it is a give and take relationship.

There are some people whom you don’t want to share your heart with, nor should you. Don’t step into every relationship that is offered to you. Consider where it will go.

THE TAROT (Part1) The History of the Tarot Historians have turned to the word “Tarot” to attempt to solve its origin.

Getting married in Spain is complicated. An average delay of 30 to 45 days should be expected after the following documents have been submitted and before the ceremony may be performed.

Religious Marriages Spanish law recognizes Catholic, Protestant, Islamic and Jewish marriages as valid in

Spain without the need of a second civil marriage. Regulations may vary depending on the religious denomination.

Couples marrying through one of the latter three rites will need to first obtain authorization from the Civil Authorities by presenting the requirements described previously under “Civil Marriages�. For Catholic marriages, the documents

The investment rate with Sol Bank is now is very low so I decided to move the funds elsewhere. The attitude of the bank staff was hostile. I was accused of taking advantage of the bank as they had made hardly anything on my funds and I had to pay 0.6% fee on every pound of the capital I transferred, even to sterling account in a bank within Spain. That came to £881 on an investment of £144,000.

They may not have made much on my cash, through their imprudence, when they had it but if they could get every customer to transfer their funds ‘now that would be a nice little earner’ !

This is a legal charge but just because it is legal will not inspire me to transfer funds back to the bank when investment rates improve nor recommend my friends to do so either.

NOVELLI Ingredients 20ml olive oil 10 baby onions, peeled 1 banana shallot, peeled and diced 3 baby leeks, sliced 2mm thick 1 red pepper, deseeded and diced 1 green pepper, deseeded and diced 2 baby fennel bulbs, diced 80g mushrooms, quartered 2 star anise 1/2 vanilla pod, halved lengthways 1 x 3cm piece of fresh ginger 8 garlic cloves, halved and core removed 9 whole black peppercorns 10–20 coriander seeds 2 bay leaves juice and zest of 1 lemon juice and zest of 1 orange 150–200ml extra-virgin olive oil 4 sprigs fresh thyme, stalks removed, chopped 8 fresh basil leaves, torn 5g fresh coriander, chopped 1 beef tomato, diced For the fish 20ml olive oil 4 fillets lemon sole juice of 1/2 lemon sea salt and freshly ground black pepper 2 Beef tomatoes

Confit of Sole Andalou Serves: 2 Preparaton time: 2 min plus 5 hours infusion time Cooking time: 10 - 15 min First, make the confit. Heat some olive oil in a frying pan and fry the baby onions for 3–4 minutes. Add the shallot, leeks, red and green peppers, ginger, fennel and mushrooms, and cook for 3 minutes.

Add the star anise, vanilla, garlic, peppercorns, coriander seeds, bay leaves, and the zest

and juices of the lemon and orange. When hot, remove from the heat and stir in the extravirgin olive oil. Set the pan aside, covered, for 5 hours to infuse.

Return the pan to the heat and bring almost to boiling point but do not boil. Remove from the heat, and add the thyme, basil, fresh coriander and tomato. Stir to combine and set aside while you cook the fish.

Halve the tomatoes and scoop out the flesh, season

them well and cook in a hot pan with a little olive oil, cook of both sides until softened.

Put a little olive oil in a frying pan on a high heat. Season the sole fillets. Place in the hot pan, squeeze over the lemon juice and fry for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until coloured.

Divide the vegetable confit between the tomato bases, add the fillets of fish and add a little more of the confit on top. Finish with the other half of tomato on the top and serve immediately.

Iced White Chocolate withWhisky and Passion Fruit

Serves: 6 - 12 Preparaton time: 5 min Freezer time: 1 hour Halve and remove the pulp from the passion fruit, pass this through a coarse sieve to remove the pips. Place into a pan and add the honey reduce this down to a thick paste.

Break the chocolate into very small pieces. Put a nonstick saucepan on a low heat until just warm. Remove from

the heat.

Add the white chocolate and stir with a wooden spoon so that the chocolate melts very slowly.

Add the whisky, passion fruit paste and mix in the double cream straight from the fridge. Continue stirring until slight ribbons form.

Pour into an ice-cube tray or ice-lolly moulds and freeze for at least 1 hour.

TRAVEL 76% of people believe that airlines should charge ‘Fat Tax’, according to the latest poll on leading travel site Skyscanner (www.Skyscanner.net). Only 22% of voters disapproved against such a move, with more than 550 people taking part in the poll altogether.

Such a ruling would force those who could not comfortably fit into a standard airline seat to purchase a second, normally at a discounted rate. The recent furore over the misreported issue of Air France launching a ‘Fat Tax’ has re-inflamed the debate over whether airlines should charge very obese passengers for an extra seat. Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and director commented: “So called ‘Fat Tax’ is a very sensitive issue for airlines; they will have to tread carefully so as not to alienate heavier passengers. On one hand, it’s not unreasonable for airlines to charge passengers extra if they occupy more than one seat. On the other, many would argue that it should be the responsibility of airlines to adjust their standard seat size, enabling them to comfortably accommodate all passengers.” Although the majority of those polled voted in favour of such a move, many felt such charges would be unfair. “Seats should be

It has taken four years to complete the new terminal, the grand opening will include many top politicians, officials and diplomats amongst the 500 guests invited to the opening claim the Spanish Ministry for Development.

The airport will be able to handle in the region of 9000 passengers an hour which is double its current capacity and a second runway is to be built next year.

The new terminal will

have an automatic system capable of handling 7500 suitcases an hour, 86 check in desks, some 20 boarding gates as well as brand new shops, bars and restaurants.

Flying High Malaga Airport will soon have additional international flight connections with North Africa and Portugal, and many other destinations in the Caribbean and South America. The Club was set up in November 2009, in order to cater for the perceived needs of people in the Casares, Manilva, Sabinillas, Estepona and surrounding area, with Duplicate Bridge meetings starting at 7pm in order to allow working people the opportunity to attend.

We hope to attract people who are inexperienced at playing duplicate through to those who are more competent.

Over 50’s Show Return to Estepona for Fourth Year Following ‘the huge successes’ of the 2007, 2008 and 2009 events, this year’s Over 50s Show, the lifestyle event for the Coast’s seniors, will according to the organisers, be the ‘biggest, best and most featurepacked yet’.

Commented organiser John Low: ‘After three extremely successful and well attended shows, the event has now become a permanent fixture on the Coast, and succeeded in bucking all

Health and well being will be a key element of the event based on the well-proven premise that exercise, sensible diet, and regular, routine monitoring slows down the age process.

Visitors can avail of blood pressure and blood glucose tests; spine monitoring and bone density

screening will also be available, backed by information on treating arthritic joints and knee pain. And there will also be the opportunity of joining in yoga and aerobic classes. Data on dieting and maintaining a healthy weight will also be included.

According to organisers, ‘early enquiries suggest that this year’s show will be the biggest ever, with well over a hundred exhibitors’. They add that many exhibitors which have taken part in all three shows so far have already booked for the 2010 event.’

Ronda Girl Competes in Eurovision A young Rondeña Ángeles Vela hopes to be the voice and face of Spain at this years Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo with her song “Tan Lejos de Ti”, a strident and upbeat R&B styled composition. 21 year old Ángeles is no stranger to the Eurovision selection process having reached the semi-finals of RTVE’s competition in 2009, though she didn’t receive as many votes as the eventual contestant Soraya, who Sun readers may recall was eliminated in the final.

This year Ángeles has once again teamed up with prominent Ronda poet, actor and musician José Maria Tornay who composed both of her Eurovision entry songs, the popular 2009 song “Vístete de Primavera” and this years entry “Tan Lejos de Ti”.

Tan Lejos de Ti roughly translates as So Far from You, and tells the story of a young woman separated from her lover and anxiously waiting until they can be reunited, a classic story of unrequited young love.

The sum of money generated will be handed over to the Ark Christian Fellowship who will initiate the projects for several orphanages in Haiti.

Weather Bowled Us Over The Mijas Masters Bowling competition was held last week in the most wonderful weather.

It was so good to see everyone enjoying the excellent bowling in the sunshine. The rain came back on Saturday so after a few ends we stopped and decided to have the semi-finals and finals on the Sunday if it was dry, it was, so Sunday morning the semi-finals took place with the triples between Dorothy Nuttall, Eileen and Danny White Mijas who played Diane Chambers Los Amigos, Murray Johns and Mike Gliphero Superbowl. The winners were Diane and her team.

The other semifinal was between R a y m o n d Case, HaTriples zel and Alan Brown Mijas played Pat Fisher, Craig Lewis and Mike Goodwin Superbowl who won.
