Ruth Rendell Ruth Rendell is the author of the short story A Glowing Future. She is well known for her crime and thriller novels, typically psychological murder mysteries, with a television series made from them: “The Ruth Rendell mysteries” Interestingly enough, she is a baroness (Baroness Rendell of Babergh). Her best known creation is a series of 24 novels about Chief Inspector Wexford. Ruth Rendell was born on February 17, 1930 in London. The name she was given at birth is Ruth Barbara Grasemann. Writing seemed to have all her attention when she was growing up. Both her parents were teachers, Ebba Kruse and Arthur Grasemann, which possibly had something to do with her interest in the written word. After high school she became a feature writer in a local newspaper, her stories there were often mystery-related. This love for stories and mysteries continued into adulthood and she became a successful writer. She has written 40 books in her name, she has used the pen name Barbara Vine, and won multiple awards. Now she sits in the House of Lords for Labour and has been made a life peer
